First of all your place is beyond amazing!! Its more beautifull than on the photos! The staff was awsome! They were so helpfull, friendly.

We had a great time at pdsol!! And I would surely recomend it to anyone! It was realy worth the money! We are already saving money again to go there again!! If you have any specials running, please don't hesitate to let us know.

I would realy come back any minute! I didn't want to leave. Except for the weather being nasty on friday and saturday the rest of the trip was beyond beautifull and amazing! Quite an experience!

Thank you for making us feel at home!

Room Tip: The Studios is great to sleep in! I enjoyed every moment!

With a recent surprise holiday to Mozambique, some friends mentioned that we must go and stay and Praia Do Sol. I have not been back to Bilene since the late 90's, so I was even more surprised at how the area has developed, without spoiling that "island holiday" feeling.

The highlight of our visit was Praia Do Sol! Arriving rather late at night, we were welcomed so warmly by Solly and his team of staff (and later in the week Leo & Debbie too) that our stress levels melted away like ice in the sun within a few minutes, and then the good natured and extremely helpful people of Praia crept into our hearts from the word go onwards. The restaurant offers a basic but extremely tasty menu, and the bar area is where the guests can decide on their music while sipping the local R&R (you're on your own there....). Good coffee offered (filter bodum-style), AWESOME crab-curry!

The whole lodge is rustic indeed, but with all the modern amenities one would need without having to slum it in a tent. ("Glamping comes to mind"). We loved the thatched A-frame structures, the solid bathrooms with gas-geyser (focusing on the environment with eco usage), flush toilets, cleanest white linen (always a winner in my book) with mosquito netting. A slightly raised roof from the wooden structure lets in fresh air giving you all the good things about nature without compromising on creature comforts. The separate stand-alone kitchen units (shared between 2 chalets) is so well equipped that cooking the fresh produce from the very basic market (a fish-lovers paradise) was a dream with the gourmet gas-braai, gas-stove top and excellent pots/pans and wide selection of utensils (we don't normally see a parmesan grater, snackwich or a pasta spoon in self-catering units) available. On top of this it is serviced daily so the whole family can take a break, particularly the folks who may normally have to clean back home. We also found the friendly staff during the day being respectful of when you are in or out in order not to disturb you at the chalets.

There may be a lack of TV in your room, but that is not due to lack of electricity. The whole family - with teenagers in our case - will benefit from just eating, swimming, playing board/card games and walking around the area together, not to speak of the wonderful lagoon water, white sand, snorkeling, boat rides, fishing (if that's your thing) and unspoilt beach just a boat-ride or hike away. A vibrant night-life is on the doorstep if you feel the need to engage more energetically. (While we were there a separate tv/games room was being built on for younger guests who may feel the need for alternative entertainment while the parents take a brake over a meal/bar/pool within viewing distance). The lodge is also set inside a forest which is fantastic wind-protection factor on the "not-so-nice" weather days.

There is security walking about on site (mostly unnoticed) to just keep an eye for general stragglers if need be, but we could just feel the luxury of having nothing to worry about creep into our bones every day we were there. Yes, sensitive sleepers may battle with the odd noise from the general public street level at night if your chalet is too close to the road, but generally everyone at Praia is considerate of others. (Unfortunately you do sometimes get people everywhere who do not care, but that's life in general, and you can ask security to assist in the matter on your behalf).

We as a family felt that this was similar to a Thai-island rustic holiday, but a lot closer to home in South Africa, and extremely accessible especially if you take the luxury MiBus with Nollie directly from Jozi to Bilene in under 10 hours without the hassle of driving (and bribery) in Mozam. (http://www.mibus.co.za/default.aspx).

And so a precedent was set for our family holidays, and Praia Do Sol have created a monster, because we want more.... often!

Dirty, bad smelled and noise (the "chalets" are partially open so if someone makes noise during the night it is not possible to sleep).
Food is horrible and you have to wait almost 1 hour to be served.
The beach is not bad, but for sure that is not enought!

We recently celebrated my daughter's 21st B Day party on the beach. It was amazing. The place is wonderfully rustic and the bedding clean. The staff very polite and accommodating. A big Thank You to Debbie and Leo for seeing to all our needs and the set up on the beach. The cake was beautiful. Everyone had a ball of a time and very sad we could not extend our stay.

Let me start by saying there is nothing wrong with the place, maybe we were wrong for the place. I don't want to write an unfair review, so here is how we experienced it. Prior to our visit we emailed the owner several times. What a friendly, helpful person, as was the manager and the rest of the staff. We stayed in chalet 8 which was maybe a mistake as the bar is next to it. People watch tv there and workers were busy building and grinding there. Allthough the resort is not right in town, the town is very noisy at night. There must be a bar or something nearby. The chalet itself is OK. The junker geyser was a challenge to say the least. Water alternated between burning hot and freezing. There is a bath too, but to fill it with warm water is impossible. Staff tended to the problem, but it didn't solve the problem. We liked the early morning birdlife and appreciated the gas braai. In my opinion, if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful holiday, this is not the place for you. If you love partying and watersport... By all means! I also feel at R1000 per night the chalet was totally overpriced...and apparently this was a special! When we used the plug in the kitchen it made sparks. The upstairs room had a fan in it, with no power plug! In the end...the resort's slogun "warm people, cold beer" is not untrue.

The chalet( 2 bedrooms one bathroom) was well equipped had a gas barbecue and had really good bed linen. The view from the deck and balcony over the 15km long lagoon over the trees was beautiful. The bird life was prolific. The road to the resort is being paved. There is a great coffee bar/ garage on the lagoon side road en route to the resort. We self catered but had drinks on the bar deck which was very pleasant. I will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Take chalet 1 or 2

We came to PDS for a couple of days and stayed for 6. It is such a relaxing place right on the edge of a beautiful clear lagoon.
There are 12 chalets here of varying sizes set in the bush. Our first 2 nights were spent in Chalet 1 which has great views of the lagoon out over the trees tops and where you can watch the sun coming up without the need to get out of bed. There is also a lovely shaded deck on which to while away a few hours. The bungalow is compact though, and since we decided to stay on for a few more days asked Solly (most friendly manager) if we could move to one of the self catering bungalows. This was Chalet 2, very large on 2 floors and slept 5 with full self catering facilities. We did prepare a few meals for ourselves but the food is so good at the restaurant that we ate there each evening. Grilled prawns, prawn curry, calamara, grilled fish were all delicious.
This is not a 5 star resort, it is very rustic and you are in the bush, but the staff are very pleasant it is incredibly laidback and we found it the perfect place to relax and do very little for more than a few days.
