Hotel Funduk al Shams run by Ulrike Grimm and Mohamed Saad, is very special. A small hotel between the sugarcane fields on approximately 2 km walk from the Nile. Ulrike and Mohamed are very good hostst for their guests. They show the surroundings, the fields and the village. The hotel is not far from the best preserved temple of Egypt in Edfu, definitely worth a visit. Also a Feluka-trip on the Nile is liked by them organized.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The place has been constructed in Egyptian - Nubian style, surrounded by a big garden full of flowers, vegetables, herbs, fruit trees and palms. The buildings are erected according to ecological principles including aspects of Geomancy and Feng Shui. The complex consists of a main building with a lobby opening to a big patio. The 8 twin-bedded rooms, with cold and hot water, shower and toilet are situated on both sides of the patio, which is closed on the northern side by a pavilion. This pavilion is octagonal and carries a dome. It's inside space has the ideal measures of 7 x 7 x 7 meters and can be used as lounge but also for performances and seminars. The rooms are designed in Nubian style and deliberately without air condition but with a fan. Our offer comprises overnight stay, all inclusive board and beverages - without alcohol. The menu is semi- Egyptian and European. First of all we will use products of the region and our own garden. Bread and yoghurt is home-made. We will make every effort to combine Egyptian and Austrian hospitality with our very personal style and offer it to our dear guests. We offer you quietness and peace. To hear the silence again has become a difficult task for many people and a real luxury of the same time. We need to turn to ourselves and look for that silence. If you take your time, you might find that quiet and peace here with us. ... more less
