“Great Location”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

The pool was the highlight of the resort for us. Spending hours under the amazing Frangipani Trees. Staff was kind and very welcoming. Our room was clean and exactly as described. Great Air Con. We only stayed one night, but the location was great for exploring this area. Would be happy to stay there again and 'enjoy' the resort more and surrounding areas.

Room Tip: Rooms by the big pool are great.

We came to railay village resort after a stay in koh samui. I unfortunately got food poisening the night before we left koh samui, so a taxi ride, delayed plane trip, communal bus (with no air con) then a boat ride to railay beach, I was glad to be on non moving dry land! We spent 7nights at railay village resort, and from check in to check out we had nothing but a great experience! The Staff were lovely, very helpful, and I find that if you don't take yourself too seriously, like most European and American tourists do, then having a laugh and a shrug of the shoulders when something doesn't go right, will see the best service and help you to relax! We stayed out the back in the hotel rooms, which were very spacious, clean and overlooking the pool and background of beautiful stone mountains, breath taking! Monkeys dotted the roofs on occasion, and this back part of the hotel is relatively quiet.
The food wasn't magnificent, but totally edible, providing you we're getting the Thai options. Lets face it, if you go to a country, you should be eating the local food. The buffet breakfast wasn't great, but again, if you go for the simple options then its a no brainer.
The restaurant is located on the sunset beach, so lovely to sit and have a coconut juice, while watching the magnificent sky change all colours of crimson, orange and gold. The only down side I guess is that this is an alcohol free resort, in which they don't sell you the alcohol, but there is a shop strip located right next to the restaurant, and you can go and buy any alcohol and bring it back to the resort (they provide glasses and ice). Very accommodating.
If you're looking for a quiet place to relax on an empty beach railay village resort is probably not for you, but it's certainly an experience. And if you wake up early enough and follow a map to the sunrise part of the island, through some caves you are opened to an incredibly beautiful cliff face with a crystal clear beach (gets busy about 9am when tourist boats come in).
Overall, I would say our experience was positive, we will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: If you go for the hotel rooms at the back, try to get a room on the second level (top) on the right...

This place is beautiful and in a great location but upon check in we encountered the most unfriendly and unhelpful woman (Sofee) we had looked at the hotel on tripadvisor and were pretty sure we wanted to stay but we figured that we would be there in two hours so why not check it out before booking . When we got there it was as we hoped beautiful so we asked the price and she told us a price it was $40 per night more expensive so we asked if she would match the agoda price she rudely told us if you want that price go book it on agoda ,fair enough so I asked to log into wifi so I could do that ,she again rudely told me that wifi is for guests only and I was not yet a guest so I could not use it even though I was about to book in and she made us walk 5 min to an internet cafe to book it.

Ok complaining over the place is great the grounds are well maintained the pools are beautiful the location is perfect and the rooms are nice so I would recommend it as a place to stay.

Room Tip: The pool view rooms are not close to the beach but the joy of that is you are in the middle of the e...

This is a wonderful little resort in a great location. We would go as far as to say that the pool was one of the nicest we have seen. Although it is not large, it is beautifully designed and maintained and the flowering trees that overhang the pool are spectacular. It was a treat to walk a couple of steps from our pool view room and step into the pool.

The staff are very accommodating and even though they don't sell alcohol they had no problem with supplying us with an ice bucket to chill our wine while we watched the sun set from the restaurant. Rooms are very large and well kept.

We booked an airport pickup with them and it all went smoothly. We also booked the speedboat trip to Phi Phi and would say DO NOT TAKE THIS TRIP unless you like to crowd into areas with a 50 other speed boats loaded with people. Evidently the pavilion where we had lunch serves 3500 meals a day so it gives you an idea of the crowds. This is not the fault of the hotel but just a point in general.

I had two massages in the spa that were very good but the first one was spoiled a little when the speaker that played the relaxing music acted up and became nothing but static. During the second massage they turned the music off but a noisy bunch of teenagers decided to party it up right outside the window of the spa which detracted from the experience.

We loved Railay and found the contrast between east and west to be charming and would highly recommend the area and this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a pool room on the ground floor so you can step into the pool.

The location of this hotel couldn't be better, right on the beach in West Railay, right where the ferry drops you off.

We had a jacuzzi villa, room was large and clean. After 5 days we still couldn't work out the Air con......it started cold and great but the we would wake up and boiling hot air was coming out! Our villa was close to the beach which was good but outside and occasionally inside got very bad sewage smells. Outside (and twice inside!) in the pond so many frogs!

Food in the restaurant, not good, we had thai food on our first night at the hotel. The worst food on our whole trip. Topped off by about one hour later my boyfriend had food poisoning and so spent the next 24 hours plus in the toilet.....not a good start. Food in railay not as great as what we had before, only place we ate with great food was a place called yam yams on the East side, and we tried a lot of places!

Spa was excellent, recommend the thai and relaxing massages, both good.

Sunset on the beach was amazing.

Overall, if you want to stay on the west side then this is probably the best option for the price, it's an average hotel and its the location that makes it.

Stayed at Railay village for 5 nights as part of a one-month trip to south-east Asia

Location

As a location, Railay Beach is nothing short of excellent. The west of the peninsula (where the Hotel's entrance is) is a beautiful beach where you can view amazing sunsets. There is only one bar on this side (which also serves drinks at the beach), and a couple of shops.

Dining can be done at the beach-side restaurants of the 4 or 5 resorts on Railay-West, but I would recommend to walk over to Railay-east for this (which is just a 250m walk through the jungle). Railay East does not feature a nice beach, but a lot more shops, bars, and restaurants serving mostly Thai and Indian food. In the middle of the Island, besides the path between Railay-east and West, there are also a couple of eateries which serve quite good food.

Railay is relatively quiet compared to Ao Nang, but as you can travel there at any time of day / night through a 15-min longtail ride, this should not pose any problems.

Room

We rented a pool-view apartment. It was quite spacious for 2 people, and clean. It overlooks the pool at the back of the hotel and had a patio where you could sit in the shade after taking a swim. Pool / beach towels were provided as well. The bed slept very well, and the bathroom facilities were also good (separate shower and bathtub) and clean. Furthermore the room contained a fully stocked minibar. The complimentary fruit platter was also a nice touch.

Restaurant
The restaurant at the front of the Hotel featured a large outdoor seating area, right up to the beach. Breakfast consisted of a selection of Asian and European foods, fresh fruits, and an omelette station. Some of the items varied daily, and the overall quality of of the breakfast was good.

We also had dinner one time at the restaurant. We ordered some Thai dishes, which were okay but not spectacular (we were already quite used to spicy Thai food by then, and found the dishes at the hotel quite bland).

Facilities

The hotel grounds were beautiful, containing ots of tropical plants and trees which were tended well. There are 2, quite large pools (one at the front of the resort, and one at the back), and of of course the resort is right at the west beach. We did experience the smell sometimes lingering around the back pool at night (like a drain was not working properly or something). It was not that annoying actually, but since this has been commented on here on TA for quite some time, you would think they would have fixed it by now.

Services

At the reception, there is a tour desk through which we booked 2 activities. We did the 1 day tour to Khao Sok, which was good although 1 day is a bit short as Khao Sok is quite far (but we knew this up front). We also booked the Phi Phi Islands snorkeling tour, which I would definitely recommend. Overall experience with the tour desk was good, we got reasonable prices, and no hassles at all.

Arrival / Departure

You can only reach Railay by boat, but this is easy enough. On arrival, we simply took the bus from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang, and took a longtail boat to Railay. You have to wait until the boat is full, but this never took more than 5 - 10 minutes.

On departure, we booked a transfer through the hotel, which of course is a bit more expensive, but we wanted to avoid the hassle as we had quite an early flight to BKK. They took us to Ao Nang with one of their own longtail boats, where a taxi to the airport was waiting for us. All in all this transfer was very well executed.

Overall I would recommend staying at Railay Village

Best location, amazing Pools, staff, rooms, cannot fault the experience.
We chose a deluxe villa because it was our honeymoon and my 30th birthday!
of a 4 week Asia adventure this was the highlight. Only three nights was not enough.
Day Spa - luckily had 50% so we booked the 4.5 hrs treatment together. Staff are really nice, sweet friendly and genuine, but not very well spa trained. (i am previous spa therapist and have visited many spas so am a fair judge of quality)
Restaurant had good food one day, average the next. It definitely costs more than the local shops, but really beautiful location right on the beach.
Side note: For the adventurous, head up to the view point and lagoon behind phra nang cave. not for the light hearted its not too easy.. very steap and you need to use the ropes provided to safely navigate the climb.
