Railay is a beautiful place to visit. We were glad we were staying in Railay west but liked walking (5mins) to Railay east for drinks in the evening. Our room was lovely however there was no hot water in the jacuzzi bath. We didn't eat in the resort restaurant as it was always very quiet and you could get good food for a lot cheaper outside. I had a lovely massage in the spa with great service and a reasonable price (there was a 50% discount deal on). Unfortunately we didn't work out the importance of good mosquito repellant until the second night!

This is a resort that one pays for the location, not the service nor really the rooms themselves.
There are only a handful of resorts of the west side...so thats truly what you pay for and the resort has gotten away with poor service and old rooms because of that. That being said, the location is spectacular enough to warrant staying there and paying 5000 baht per night (low season). Don't get the spa room..its a rip off unless u need an old jacuzzi for some unknown reason. Its muslim run amd owned so no pork and no alchohol...so buy your own beer and wine..and save a ton! I would stay here again if I had to, but don't expect friendly service...the staff mean well perhaps but are incredibly badly trained. Housekeeping consists of making the bed every day but not touching anything else....so weird...but the location is paradisd

Room Tip: Go for a pool room..refuse to pay extra for your child to use the couch bed that comes in each room...

Due to the huge karst mountains looming over the beach you feel like you are staying in a very isolated and remote area. Truly beautiful. And the best sunsets! Why anyone would stay in Railay East is a mystery - it is muddy and stinks! The pool view rooms are large and nicely decorated and look out over a private and beautifully landscaped pool area. They are at the back of the resort and are very private and quiet. The food here is average (the views from the restaurant are amazing) but there are a few other options close by including pancakes, baguettes and cocktails in the quaint 'Walking Street'. It is only an easy 10 minute walk to the picturesque Phra Nang beach - stunning! And a tour of the outer islands is recommended.

Room Tip: The pool view rooms at the back of the resort are quiet and private

From the very start this holiday felt doomed. We prepaid a transfer from Krabi airport with the hotel (US50 for 5 people) and the driver was indeed waiting for us however he did not bring the van to the undercover driveway at the airport exit, despite the fact it was raining, rather, without helping us, took off into the car park and we followed along, no help, no brolly, no instructions. The driver took off at a rate of knots and drove way too fast in the rain around the narrow and winding roads to the jetty. At the jetty, we were told to go straight ahead. Again, it was raining, no brolly and no help with all our luggage. I saw other people being ferried in a golf buggy but was told that we could not use it as it was private. Ok… so we trapse down the jetty (about 150m) in the rain and a man approached us and motioned for us to sit. So we told him which hotel we wanted to go to and we sat, and sat and waited. While we sat there, we saw about 8 local men just sitting at the jetty, waiting for who knows what, and talking. After about 10 minutes we hear a whistle from one of the men and he motioned for us to come over. We took our bags back out into the rain and dragged them and our very wet selves, onto a rickety looking long tail boat. The boat took us to Railay Bay and when it stopped, about 200 m off shore, the driver motioned for us to go to shore. My children got out first and we handed bags to them (no help from the boat driver except he ended up carrying one bag above his head when it was clear I could not do this as the water was waste high and I am not a tall person). No care was taken in getting us out of the boat, the water was high, the waves were high and we were not on solid footing (shoes off by this point, clothes saturated) and to add insult to injury it was still raining! After walking to the shore on a very slippery very dangerous walk way (with NIL visibility to see if we were on the path or about to fall off into the deep water either side) the driver simply took off. I mean, took off. We tried to follow and keep up but lost sight of him and had to ask directions three times to our hotel. We were dumped on the east side and walked about 5-10 mins to the west side to our hotel. OUr horror was that when we got to the other side there were about 6 staff standing around, trolleys and brolleys available and NONE of them had come to assist. We felt like we had intruded on a party and and were unwelcome guests at the check in counter. The boat driver stood around for a while but trust me, there was not going to be a tip for him (nor the van driver). Check in was long, we were frustrated because everything had been pre paid (insisted upon by our booking person other wise I doubt we would have stayed) and we really didn't feel in the slightest bit like we were valued or cared about guests. Our rooms were average, in need of updating, just shabby. Unfortunately the bad weather conditioned and we spent the following day in doors (no gym or games room or activities at the hotel for inclement weather). The breakfast was disgraceful, same every day, with flies and ants on the food. The food was cheap and very nasty. Go to the walking street and eat the roti if you can't face the breakfast day after day. The restaurants along the beach were nice and we did have some nice seafood.
Be warned, all the shops are there to rip you off, eg on the main land at 7/11 you will pay 10B for a can of coke, at the resorts is B25-40B, icecreams and snacks are double, if you can, take some with you (fridge in room).
The only thing I can offer this hotel is that when our daughter got sick they arranged for someone from the night staff to bring medication for her over from that night when they started work. It was kindly done and delivered to our room.
There is a tour desk but negotiate because prices vary widly depending who is on duty.
Overall, we would not stay at this hotel again as there are much nicer, friendlier places to stay in Thailand.

Room Tip: Jacuzi room is a waste of money, our bath didn't have hot water and there were tons of mozzies i...

We stayed at deluxe pool view (first floor, room 1027). Lots of living space with huge bed, sofa, TV and DVD player ( dvd rental available at front desk), great master remote next to your bed with all the necessary buttons to turn on/off light, air condition, do not disturb sign, tv etc.
The bed, although huge, has a very hard mattress.
Welcome fruits are given every day (apples, bananas).
Bathroom is enormous with bathtub and rain-shower (amazing). The only small problem that needs to be fixed - very small amount of hot water in early morning (I wake up very early because of the kids and like to take a bath before breakfast... the hot water was almost not enough to fill in the bathtub).
All the necessary amenities were provided including toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, and comb and of course the regular shampoo and lotion.
Very important for internet junky or workaholics - free wifi internet! Mini mart is available next to the restaurant, but has very little choice. If you need for larger selection, you may want to try other shops in other resorts near by.
Decent breakfast with good selection of food, including, omelet and pancakes made right in front of you. Breakfast is from 7:00 to 10:00.
The restaurant food is so-so and needs improvement. We discovered amazing thai food in the restaurant right next to Village called Sand Sea. Very recommended.
There is “no alcohol” policy in the hotel, even in the restaurant, so if you do want a nice cocktail, you have to find it somewhere else (plenty of choices outside).
There is a “walking street” nearby with souvenirs and laundry service (50 baht per kilo, ready next day at 3 pm. Express option also available – can be ready the same day at 9pm).
The plan of the grounds is as following:
Beach, right after there is the restaurant and the reception (with internet room and spa – haven’t tried it so cannot comment). Then there is the first pool. After that start the accommodation – villas first, then after some walking distance two buildings with rooms on first and second floor and second pool in the middle of the two buildings.
The smell mentioned in the previous review around the villas are not coming from the garbage bins but rather from the ponds which surround the villas, especially when it rains. There is a well-known problem in Thailand with rain and sewage issues that come right after each down pour.
Service is good, friendly and smiling stuff, all requests were answered promptly and with good manners.
The beach in front of the hotel is nice with amazing cliffs on both sides. Long tail boats are coming and going so be careful when you get into the water for a swim.
Overall, satisfied with our stay and the hotel and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: The deluxe room on the first floor is great, right next to the pool.

This place was a trip and a half! Way out in the middle of a small group of islands, it has one of the best beaches in the area, besides Phi Phi of course. You can climb the big rocks that surround the island with lots of forest to get lost in and enjoy.

We had the jaccuzi room which was great. so cozy and nice, we really enjoyed the room, which was also near many pools. Its pretty quiet and serene. Oh and there are monkeys here, you need to go out in the forest a bit near the big rocks.

You can climb rocks if you want. there is a lagoon way at the top of some rocks, must be 400-500 feet, but a tough climb straight up clay and rock.

The food was ok, it was usually busy and the staff was not big in numbers, but its thailand!
The beer selection was limited, its best to go to Aonang and find a foreigner pub and bring back beer to Railay. You can bring to all the restraunts in Railay, they dont mind.

Not much for nite life in Railay, but sometimes they surprise you with a band on the beach.

I was hoping to find something ganja, but i was unsuccessful. But its around on the other side of the island, i could smell it!

We stayed here for two nights. Unfortunately we've got here when it was raining all day and night so we have'nt been at the pool or at the beach. The staff is great very helpful and nice. The restarant of the hotel is great. Breakfast is very nice. At the first night we've been at the pravicy cottage that was great, it has a cool jacuzzi in the garden but because it was raining we didnt use it so for the second night we changed the room to basic kottage. Very nice and clean.Great experiance!
