“Great place”
Reviewed November 26, 2011

Great place-fantastic room, huge bathroom, and bed, plus good free wifi. Brilliantly located on Railay West beach, but in land enough for a short walk to Railay East when necessity prevails.
Two brilliant pools, surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens (Alan Titchmarsh would be proud), that allow you to feel like you've got the place to yourselves. Only minor complaint would be the food was only above average, meaning it was less than excellent (or very good depending on your choice of adjective).
Railay is stunning, if you didn't like this you'd have to ask yourself some serious questions!

We're a family of four - children 5 and 8 when we visited Railay Village Resort. The staff is helpfull and kind, the resort have two pools; one of these is 25 m long so it's great for swimming laps. The beach has the most beautiful sunsets - and most of the tourist crowd leaves in the afternoon.

we have been for 5 nights in the hotel - even though everything was nice- put everything you can in the safe (all of them have the same default code - so change it!)

our housekeeper has stole some of our kids toys... and we were not the only ones who have had it

furthermore - the bathtubs did not have hot water and the staff could not fix it....

This is a great place to stay, the staff was truly helpful and very kind. We had reservations for 2 nights but decided to stay an extra night. The beach was amazing, the water in the ocean was nice and warm, very clean too. Before we came home we decided to go back and stay another night at the hotel, we would certainly go back! Make sure that you also check out the East side of Railay there are lots of shops and good restaurants. Our fav one was Moms Restaurant, it was a great stay...

The hotel is on the beach front (Railay West) and you are taken to the beach by a longboat (5 mint ride) that meets the ferry . You have to carry your own luggage from the long boat to shore, there is no pier, but the water is shallow and warm. I would advise shorts, or capri pants for ladies.
The hotel is well maintained and the pool villa was spacious with a lovely bathroom, bar fridge, kettle and coffee maker. Fresh fruit and bottled water (complimentary and unlimited) is supplied every day, although we had to ask for fruit on day two. The staff was fairly helpful, but a high five for the bellboy who took us to the room, carried the luggage and explained how everything works!
Our room had a door adjoining another room, which can be troublesome when you have noisy neighbours. The pool is right outside the room, and absolutely gorgeous.
Breakfast was ok.
Railay beach is beautiful. You can walk to Railay East (shortcut from the hotel) The east side has much more activity and shopping and restaurants. Do remember to make the effort to go to Pahrang Beach, it is a lovely spot. It is an easy walk from Railay East.
The island is a true gem, but the downside is all the rubble and waste that accumulates everywhere, as soon as you leave the grounds of the hotels.

Don't have a single major complaint, but the problem with this hotel is that they don't do anything exceptionally well, and for the prices they charge - they really should.

Rooms are nice, although nothing outstanding.

My two biggest gripes were with the food and service. Restaurants in the Railay area are all horrible, and by those standards I guess the restaurant wasn't too bad - but by Thai standards it certainly needs improvement. I expected higher prices because of the location, but I didn't expect the quality of the food to suffer so drastically. Even though Railay is not an island, it's secluded, so you basically have to eat in the area and they can charge you whatever they want.

The staff were pleasant enough, but not nearly as accommodating as in northern Thailand, or even Bangkok. Most of the time I could tell they really weren't interested in talking to me.

We knew going in that they hotel didn't serve alcohol, which was fine. But I don't understand why they didn't have poolside service and offer snacks/meals/non-alcoholic refreshments.

Spa was too expensive.

Overall, the hotel was OK. No major complaints but I listed some of the annoyances you will have to deal with. Railay is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's expensive, secluded, and not really great value for Thailand. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't stay in Railay. At these room rates, the hotel has much higher standards to meet.

Rooms: Nice, large, fairly clean. However, our toilet seat had a crack in it which you had to be careful not to cut yourself. The only other complaint with respect to the room is that there was not hot water the last 24 hours we were there!

Value: Expensive for what it is. We visited 3 areas in Thailand on this trip and this was the most expensive yet least luxurious. It was hard finding good value in the Krabi area so I don't think this is unique to this hotel.

Spa: Didn't go. It was way too expensive, relative to prices for massages in Thailand. It was funny watching the staff give each other facials and massages because there were hardly any customers.

Railay Beach: Not as nice as people make it out to be. The water was mirky and the longtail boats are noisy and take up a lot of the beach so it's not very relaxing. There are also no beach chairs/loungers. Beaches on Phi Phi are much nicer (clear waters, whiter, finer sand). Phra Nang beach on the other side of the cliff was nicer but still not up to my beach standards.

Service: Maid service was mediocre. She basically made the bed and replenished water. There was NO poolside service, even for food. If you want food you have to go to the restaurant. This was very bizarre to me.

Alcohol: They don't sell it on the resort at all but it wasn't a problem going to a nearby convenience store and bringing it back to the hotel. Prices are slightly higher than going to a local in-town 7 eleven so if you can, bring alcohol or go to Ao Nang to get it. Don't get ripped off on Railay.

Food: American breakfast was unappetizing. The omelette station had fruit flies all around the toppings. There were tons of flies and fruit flies all over the buffet food. A simple net/cover would solve this problem, especially for the fresh fruit. The Thai food was good. Stick with the Thai food. Food is on par with prices in Railay but expensive for Thailand.

Restaurants: The service and food at the hotel restaurant was very good. Other restaurants in the area weren't so good. The staff were stoned/high and basically ignored us. It was slow and expensive and the food was mediocre.

Other Advice:

Book a poolside view room. The huts have swamps around them and you get tons of critters and lots of frog noises at night which can be annoying when trying to sleep.

Don't book anything on the Railay East side. There isn't a beach on that side. It's basically a slosh of mud. And it's a lot "rougher". Although that could be the type of scene you're looking for.

If you need to get off of Railay the only way is by boat. You can pay up to 1200 BHT to hire a boat to take you to Ao Nang, the closest town (about 5 minutes by boat). Don't let the guys on the beach charge you that much. They will bring the price down if you're insistent or wait it out.

Room Tip: Poolside view on the 2nd floor is the best option
