“Beach house living”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2011

I loved this beach house, but I would caution that it is not for everyone. Also, it is not a great value compared to many other places in Thailand. I loved it for the beautiful, open-air room and romantic seclusion of the property. Others may not as ready to sleep in the heat under a mosquito net (and don't try sleeping without it!) and live with limited amenities. The Beach Club seems a bit in contrast to the rest of the island, which mostly caters to the backpacker and rock climber set. As you see new arrivals coming in the beach off the long tails, almost all a double-packed. Still, this was a great fit for me, since it meant that I got to stay in a wonderful beach house and still find plenty of cheap places for food and drinks!

At night, grab a beach chair and bottle wine and just wait on the beach for one of the more amazing sunsets you will ever see. For a bit more of an adventure, find the roped passage way through the beach rocks (watch the tides and bring your head lamp for the way home) and have drinks at the hammocked and throw-rugged rasta bar across the way.

While researching places to stay on Railay West we thought for sure that everywhere was out of our budget. Then we found the clubhouse rooms at RBC! The clubhouse rooms are PERFECT for a couple (or a family of 4, as #1 and 2 are conjoined). At only 2500 bt/nt it wasn't that much more expensive than some of the average-rated places on the east side but it was WELL worth it! The clubhouse rooms give you a porch area with a coffee/tea bar and a view of the gorgeous blue sea and huge karst peaks from the comfort of your lounge chair! Walk a few meters and you're ON the beach with a view that took my breath away every time I saw it.

Why I think RBC is the best choice of all lodging in the area:
1) Best beach and side of beach... there are other places to stay on west beach but this was a more relaxing side, away from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants and other tourists. RBC's side of the beach was less rocky. At low tide the other side of the beach was unbearable w/o shoes!
2) Huge patio with lounge chairs, multiple sitting areas, and coffee/tea bar (that is only for clubhouse guests). The patio is a common area for all members of RBC, but the only time there was every anyone there besides us was in the evening during "happy hour". A fridge stocked with drinks was just a few steps away by reception.
3) Best price! I don't think there were other houses for this price around. For only 2 of us, we were happy here.

The only negatives I would want people to be aware of are the lack of A/C (you do have fans), the windows being open and clubhouse #2 being right on the pathway led to some noise at night from other guests walking by and also you would have to lower blinds for any sort of privacy. Mosquitoes were not really a problem (and we didn't even use the mozzy net).

There are cheaper places in the area, but none had this location! Just book it!

Room Tip: Cheapest double rooms are the clubhouse #1 and #2.

This was our favourite accommodation on our recent trip to Thailand and Singapore. The actual sleeping accommodation was probably only 3 star in reality, but the overall package was so good, you hardly noticed.

We were met at Krabi airport as part of our transfer and taken to Ao Nang where we got into a long boat for the 10 minute ride to Railei. The driver did a stop off at Tesco Lotus on the way so we could stock up on breakfast and lunch provisions.

We stayed in House 11, Bridge House, in Wing D, (it has 4 wings.) The Wing is reached by going up a flight of stairs and comprises a bedroom, a bathroom and a spacious living area in which was a double futon that our 10 and 12 year old slept on. It is all open plan, with no real distinct "rooms" as such - more like "areas." There is no air conditioning, but we made do with the fans blowing on us all night, set to high speed, and mosquito nets.

Downstairs is a decked patio with ceiling fans, table and chairs, hammock, and huge cushions for reclining on, which is a common area for all the Wing guests to use. (We never saw another guest in the Bridge House whilst we were there - perhaps they stayed inside.) There is also a common kitchen which you can use. This was a bit dirty and primitive, so we didn't use it. The windows are open to the outdoors with lush jungle views on all 4 sides, and a perfect vista of the beach, only 50 metres away, from the balcony. There are containers to store foodstuffs in so that you don't get wildlife visitors who may wish to steal it. You are also supplied with lots of fresh drinking water daily which is included in the price of your stay.

The best part of RBC is the location. We are so glad we didn't opt for a fancier resort on the East side of the peninsular as the views are like chalk and cheese. We were happy to wake up in our traditional Thai hut early in the morning and stroll to the gorgeous beach for a cool dip. If you're up early enough you may get the beach to yourself. We found Phra Nang Beach, (just a 15 minute walk to the bottom of the peninsula,) to be a gob smackingly beautiful place for an early morning swim too. This is picture postcard stuff.

RBC has beach deck chairs, beach mats and kayaks which are free to use for paying guests. This was really handy.

Although we brought our own breakfast and lunch provisions we ate our evening meals at restaurants. Food is not renowned for being fabulous here, but we ate out 3 times and 2 of those were at YaYa's based on TA forum advice, which was obviously good enough for us to return a second time. It seemed very popular and we were all happy with our meals.

In summary, we loved it here! The location was simply perfect and formed the most enjoyable leg of our trip. Would definitely come back.

First things first this is not a hotel or condominiums, with swimming pools and children’s play clubs so if that is what you are after don’t read on. This place is magical, proper Thai houses, in a prime location; these houses were the first to be built on Railay peninsula by the people who discovered it back in 1985. Our house was two stories and about 50 yards from the beach, but when you wake to monkeys playing in trees 2 feet from you taking a shower and tropical birds singing the morning chorus you have some idea of the magic of this place. The house was built from Thai hardwood and the two bedrooms was fitted out with some modern things like TV and ipod docking station, property was cleaned to a high standard. The staff we met were so helpful and sorted all our onward travel to Koh Jum Island. We loved getting up in the morning and taking a Kayak around some of the most spectacular scenery and beautiful beaches in the world. We will return next year for a longer period. Paradise found

As we have been living in Asia for many years, we have had numerous beach vacations but Railei Beach Club is our most favourite. After a quick stop at the local Tesco to stock up on food for the week, our kids are always thrilled to get to the beach at RBC and move into our "home away from home." The villas at RBC are comfortable, clean, quiet, close to the beach, safe, and a great place for a family with different aged kids to completely relax. The staff are friendly, always very helpful, and it is easy to restock our groceries with the RBC grocery delivery service. After a day of climbing, kayaking, hiking, and beachcombing at Railei, we really enjoy going back to our own "home" and lounging in our own living room while the kids play or visiting the clubhouse for a drink. There are plenty of restaurants in Railei for those who don't want to do their own cooking and RBC also offers an in-home chef to come cook your meals. All villas have free wifi with good signals. These are people's homes and you truly get the comfort of home while staying right beside the beach. We have stayed at RBC several times now and our boys keep asking to go back again!

very convenient for large families or with friends. Beautiful and comfortable houses. Perfect location. Superb beach in front. Very nice staff. A lot of fun stuff to do around and nice restaurant near by. Too bad they don't have a pool for the children. Free internet with strong signal everywhere in the house.

We stayed at Railei Beach Club in CH1 for 4 nights in early February. Despite the heat, we had a fan and mosquito net, so the lack of air conditioning wasn't an issue. The Beach Club is right on west Railay beach - and is a short walk to the restaurants and long tail boats.

We had a quick look at the other resorts around the island, and I'm convinced we made the right decision. The east side is essentially a swamp (good for eating, but we avoided it apart from that). The west side has a few nice looking resorts, but i recommend renting a house for a more authentic experience.

If you're after a 5 star holiday experience this isn't for you. But if you're happy to fend for yourself when it comes to food and activities then this will be perfect. The beaches are so beautiful you really don't need a resort pool. The staff are friendly, and can organise an in -house chef to cook you dinner, a massage or even a cold bottle of wine. This was the best holiday we've had in ages!

CH1 is a small room containing a huge bed, fan, safe, shelving and mozzie coils. It has an adjoining bathroom with a lovely outdoor shower. The larger houses also looked comfortable.
