“Amazing stay”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

My family and I actually booked somewhere else but we decided not to stay there as the place was awful. Being already 20.00pm and with no other reservations, I started frantically roaming the area trying to find a place to spend the first night of our week in Railay Beach.

We ended up at Rayavadee and it was definitely the highlight of our Thai holiday. The place is simply stunning. The villas are massive with a living area and downstairs loo and a generous bedroom upstairs with a complete bathroom, including bath and shower.

Even if there are quite a few villas, you don't feel like you're close to other guests and it's extremely quiet. The facilities are really good, you have access to all three beaches (the place is massive!) and the swimming pool on the west side is gorgeous, really handy for when there's low tide and the beach is not that nice. Or when you travel with kids.

Breakfast was superb, both the Thai and Western version were really good and the patisserie was better than in most hotels I stayed in France. We tried all three restaurants and the quality of the food was really good. Yes, it's pricey, probably more so than at home (London), so we used them a few times and then tried other restaurant around the area too.

The staff is other highlight. I showed up at 20.00 the first day after my failed booking in the other place and the lady at the front desk was amazing and quickly made a villa available, getting it cleaned and prepared in the 20' it took to get my family and luggage.

At the end of our stay, they also arranged a free shuttle by speed boat to Krabi and then an A/C van to the airport.

We usually travel in a group of 3 families with children, and we were concerned about the ongoing protests in Thailand because of the children and women in our group.
Even though it was not provided in the contract, Rayavadee management kindly agreed to postpone our booking for 12 months, so now we are able to come and enjoy the beauty of Rayavadee resort in more decent times!

We have been dreaming about going to Rayavadee ever since we saw their photos in our Kuoni travel brochure. Our stay was great. The staff were over the top trying to make everything perfect; in particular the gentleman at the pool took great care of us.

Dining: we ate at the Thai restaurant for dinner and the Cave restaurant for lunches. The cave restaurant is really more laid back than photos we'd seen online indicate. It was perfect for our lunch each day and right there on the beach. There were good kids dining options at all the restaurants. The kids 'western style' meals weren't always consistently prepared (noodles were good one meal, really runny the next) but our 6 year old just cared that there weren't vegetables in them so it didn't matter.
Our daughter turned 2 while we were there and the hotel provided a free birthday cake and sparkling wine in the room to celebrate which was incredibly kind.

Beaches: you've surely already read all the write-ups about the descending hordes on Phranang Beach. So:
1. go there for sunrise before the boats begin to arrive; it's lovely and deserted then. When the boats begin to show up go have breakfast.
2. go there around lunchtime as there is a lull (great opportunity to have lunch in the cave restaurant)
3. go at low tide regardless of the boats so you can walk out to the rock formations. (Ask the watersports staff when this will be)
Gift shop: don't wait until after checkout when you're waiting for your boat to go into the gift shop like we did! It's truly amazing and worth a good visit. The library is also worthy of some browsing time.

Pool: we spent most of our time near the pool. It's giant and has two separate sections for kids depending on how tall they are. The whirlpool section isn't warmer than the rest. There were plenty of chairs and no need to try and get there early to compete for one.

Summary and soapbox: We really enjoyed our visit. It's sad to see the numbers of boats and tourists at Phranang beach - you can definitely get a feel for what this place was like before they started coming but sadly that's not the case any longer. It feels like the hotel now has to try and strike this balance between quality of facilities and service, and cost of the rooms. It must cost a lot of money to keep that place going, with staff living on-site, transport costs to get the guests there from the airport/mainland, and truly extensive grounds maintenance. And the room rates reflect this: we paid around $800 per night for our room (although I've occasionally seen sites with rates around the $400 mark.) When they had the peninsula to themselves, these room rates were justified. With the influx of day visits, and the additional new hotels on the peninsula, this is no longer the case. But I'm not sure they can maintain the facilities and services if they drop the room rates. We will definitely go back if we can find some discounted rates, and wouldn't want to see the quality go down. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Room Tip: If you want to spend a lot of time near the pool, ask for a villa in the 300 range. The villas in t...

We were so lucky to have a chance to stay here. We had a terrible experience at holiday inn at Ao Nang as they lost our luggage but this resort's beautiful atmosphere and landscapes made our anger a little bit. They have 3 beaches which are full off people during the day time but if you go there before 9am there are a lot of less people and you are able to take beautiful pictures with limestone backgrounds.
Staff here are well trained and if you ask for direction (you need to have some time to know the directions and easy to loose your way) to any of the staff, they are happy to bring you to the location you want to go to. They are always full of smile and I think it is worth to pay extra bits of money to stay in this resort.
Breakfast place was also beautiful with quiet environment. Friendly birds greet you with their beautiful voice.
Gift shop do sell many thai style goods and I bought a bag there which I was later asked by few people in the resort where I bought it from. The price may be higher compare to those in city are but the things they well are with good quality with a style.
We will come back to stay in this resort for sure for longer rather than staying in holiday inn in Ao nang with cheaper rate where do not want to take a responsibility for the lost luggage.

Room Tip: Just book without hesitation, you will get more than what you pay.

From the time you land at Krabi airport and depart ,you are smoothly conducted thro the transportation to and fro the resort. The resort is in a prime locality surrounded by cliffs all around and three beaches for you to enjoy the sea side activities. There are restaurants strategically located on all three beaches(Railay,Nammoa &Phranang)with different menus.Highly recommended is to have at least a drink at the beautifully illuminated Grotto in the evening on Phranang beach. There are many island tours for snorkelling and swimming, though I recommend Phi Phi island tour which fulfills the needs.I felt that the tours are little highly priced! The negative factor is the whining noise of the motorised catamarans all thro the day!A perfect place for family hols with an elephant trekking thrown in!

Room Tip: Choose the pavilion terrace in the middle of the resort, with a package deal online directly from the...

This resort is way too overprice for ASIA standard. The resort was nice and calmful. Service was excellent. All staff will give u smile. We were greeted by the GM and he gave me good recommendation for the food which a point plus. Villa was big, but overprice for me. B'fast was okay not many choices. I'm disappointing with the beach. Not so many activities can be done and small beach. Like the view of a giant limestone cliff. Pool was great and my child were happy. I think if there are not many longtail boat, the beach would be perfect. A helpful hint: Book directly with the resort on their website. DO NOT BOOK THRU TRAVEL AGENT because the resort won't give me free airport transfer!!

I stayed here in low season in October 2013 - solo traveller. The staff were amazing - so welcoming and there were so many small touches from them that made me feel very welcome. The villas too are a very high standard and much larger than other hotels I have stayed in. I loved the food as well and found the prices as expected in a resort of this standard - there are much cheaper options on one of the beaches if that is a concern. I went out on one of the island hopping trips which they kindly ran just for me even though it was supposed to be for a group.

The only downside for me was that the beaches are public and during the day I did find the crowds visiting disruptive. This was low season so I can only imagine how much worse it gets in high season. The setting is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen (having stayed in many resorts in Thailand) and if you swim in the sea before the boats arrive it is stunning. Most of the rest of the time I stayed by the pool instead (which is amazing too). There was an event on the beach one day with loudspeakers which again was disruptive.
