“Not quite 5 star but they try!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

We had two nights at Rayavadee so not really enough time to experience all the excursions, that whilst expensive looked amazing and extensive. We stayed in villa 319 which was well located just behind the pool with extensive lawn in front. The rooms were comfortable although wardrobe space was a bit limited. There is a downstairs sitting area so plenty of room to store luggage. Whilst the resort itself was well maintained and the staff lovely, the food was a bit patchy. Hamburger at grotto horrible, pizza ok. Breakfast was good. It's good to be aware that there are several cheaper hotels on the island that share the beaches so it isn't super private. The thing with this resort is the surroundings - it is truly beautiful and if you can forgive the food and other little non luxuries and just enjoy the amazing scenery then its worth the money!

Beautifull location, nice beaches with clear water and white sand....Sadly is the worst service we had in our 16 days trip to Thailand and rooms definitley were not worth what you pay: old, bad design, 15" flat sceen, not enogh room for lugagge, and no black outs.

I have MS and did not realise that it had stairs that where so steep in every villa. We where there for a wedding which was lovely. However I knew I could not stay 9 days as planned due to the stairs, we bought this to the general managers attention and he said if we leave early he would charge us 50% of the days we do not stay. I said I could a few days and would sleep down stairs on the lounge his comment was yes you can stay there it is big enough I replied shower is up stairs 9 days no shower would not be my ideal holiday. We then convinced him we would stay 3 nights then leave. Which we did. Staff their not very helpful seem very lazy would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

This resort is probably the best we have ever been to. From the very moment you arrive, it's a unique and charming experience.

You arrive by boat and are welcomed by typically lovely Thai staff who give you an orientation. But this isn't just the usual affair where they try to sell you tat, trips or treatments. It's a rare, necessary orientation as the resort is massive. Not massive in the sense of an anonymous complex - don't worry about feeling like you are in a giant hospitality factory. The nature of the design, the density of flora, the abundance of wildlife and the asymmetrical and varied landscaping, all mean that you get a simultaneous sense of space and cosiness. It's like being in a very comfortable, organised and attractive jungle.

It's hard to describe what the place looks like, but try crossing The Shire with Jurassic Park - only Disney versions.

The accommodation is excellent. The restaurants are great. They aren't cheap, but the reviews that have said they are a rip-off are just way off the mark. The value is about right. And there is variety if you are watching the pennies.

There are two stunning beaches. One is very busy but the hotel has private areas set back in the shade that are lovely for an afternoon doze. But we preferred the beach down near the pool - just as jaw-droopingly beautiful as the other and with fewer people.

We have always found that Thailand sets a pretty high standard in terms of service - everywhere we have been there we have been impressed by the genuinely welcoming people. But this place stood out, it really blew us away how unobtrusively perfect the staff were.

Oh, and the spa. Amazing. Take me back.

We had our wedding in the Grotto at Rayavadee and could not have had a better experience. The detail and attentiveness of the staff was exceptional everyone in our party was overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit and willingness provided by all the staff. The Grotto was just the most magical place to hold the wedding and the decoration and lighting first rate.
As a resort we found an amazing pool that allows you to witness the beautiful sunsets of Railay West without leaving the pool.
The rooms were wonderful and little treats are provided each day as a little extra touch.

The breakfast buffet is exceptional with many choices. We also dined at the Thai restaurant Krua Phranang as a group of 18 and found the food very good.
From the time they met our plane for transfer to the resort to time we left we had a great experience. Thank you Rayavadee you can be very proud of all your staff.

We stayed at the Rayavadee in December of 2012 with our two small children, 10 months old and 3 years old and my parents. During our stay the staff made every effort to attend to our every need, they learned our names, were incredibly friendly and made sure that all my meals were Dairy free ( I have a dairy allergy). The room was well finished, we stayed in a hydro-pool pavilion, which was nice because it has a fenced garden, providing plenty of privacy. The landscaping was lush and tropical and we enjoyed serval meals on our terrace (room service was great), because of our kids. The thai restaurant was good, but I think my best meal was at the Raya Dining restaurant, which is the same one they serve breakfast at every morning.

There were plenty of toiletries, no need to bring any from home. They were spa quality and even included stain remover, bug spray, and Johnson & Johnson baby products for our little ones.

The highlight of our stay, in fact of our entire trip to Thailand, was the private boat tour to Ko Phi Phi. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone staying at the Rayavadee and I would recommend the private tour to anyone with small children. It was so nice to have the boat to ourselves and get to see islands at our own pace. The service was spectacular - they even sent an extra staff member to help with our children so we could spend some time swimming and snorkeling.

Marvelous service from the moment we arrived until our departure at the airport. Incredible location and views.

We stayed at Rayavadee for 3 nights as part of a superb holiday booked with Andaman Sky Adventures, which took in not only Railay but also Phuket and some islands too. It is hard to choose which was our favourite resort of the 4 we stayed at, but Rayavadee was definitely a hot favourite. We have holidayed before in the region, at Pimalai on Koh Lanta and at Phulay Bay near Ao Nang, so we now know the best the region has to offer. I’d put my top 3 resorts in the regon as these : Paresa, Pimalai and Rayavadee. We would have returned to Pimalai this trip but it was full.

From the word “go” everything about Rayavadee was great – the smooth airport pickup, quick transfer to the boat, the welcome cocktail, the calm check-in. Our bungalow was just great, we got one of the recently done-up ones thanks to our travel agent, who also got us a discount. There was lots of room, privacy and nice touches like home-made chocolates every day, even the cleaners seemed to have been trained in how to clean unobtrusively. The food was really, really good; breakfast included a selection of perfectly ripe tropical fruit with for me an English breakfast and for my wife a Thai breakfast, both of which were great. We ate only at the resort during our stay, so got to know the restaurants pretty well.

We weren’t so impressed with the resort’s restaurant in a cave by Phra Nang beach, as we ate a distinctly average pizza there, but the headline restaurant never failed to impress, particularly when we had the surf’n’turf, washed down with pricey but very good wine. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return.

Room Tip: Book as part of an island hop with Andaman Sky Adventures, that way you won't get bored by stayi...
