Bhu Nga Thani Resort and Spa
Ranked #5 of 13 Hotels in Railay Beach
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Over the new year period we were visiting a number of resorts in thailand and the bhu nga was our third stop. Initial impressions were excellent with a well planned collection by car and the last leg on a long tail boat through clear seas.

We arrived at high tide and were met on the pier by a member of staff who transported our bags to the reception.

Room a deluxe double with sea view was excellent, air conditioning was ice cold and robes slippers etc were all provided.

The buildings and infrastucture were all modern and well maintained and at hiigh tide the view from the restaurant was idylllic.

A short walk (ten minutes) takes you down to railay beach which is quite spectacular. If somewhat busy and commercial.

A few negatives though - the wi fi didnt work throughout our stay, the service and house keeping in the hotel wasnt great - almost grudging and the food in the hotel restaurant was poor - i ordered a marinated fish sandwich and was served with a deep fried piece of grey stuff that could have been fish - macdonalds fillet of fish was ten times better at heathrow.

On our first night at about 5 pm there was a stack of half eaten food outside the next room - which was still there at 3 oclock the following day - hardly ideal as we saw monkeys going through the bins and temeratures were in the low thirties

The staff had a very selective grasp of english (fair enough at a 20 pound a night b and b) but this hotel charges uk prices and should provide a comparable experience to a european hotel.

When the tide is out the hotel is actually set on a mud beach not sand so you cant use it, also generally the area in the immediate vicinity was pretty dirty and unkempt (i realise that this isnt the fault of the hotel)

We (a travelling party consisting of 3 adults, a 3 yr old toddler and a 9 yr old child) stayed here for 7 nights from the 22nd to 29th Dec 2013 and we had two connecting rooms. The location of the hotel is excellent with good accessibility to the other restaurants, mini marts and main beaches on the Railay peninsula. The airport transfers organised by the hotel were seamless with the aircon van to and from Nan Mao Pier then long tail boats to East Railay beach and finally on a sea tractor to the main entrance of the hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our entire stay. The hotel restaurant serves excellent Thai food though slightly pricey than the others nearby. The daily breakfast served was pretty basic but adequate. The only letdown that we had was the cleanliness of the rooms. I don't think the housekeeping staff did a good job in maintaining the rooms on a daily basis. What they have done was simply just tidying up the bed and empty the trash bins each day with very minimal cleaning of the toilets and the other areas. I would recommend this resort to others, if not for the poor housekeeping of the hotel rooms.

It is a small but nice and classy resort. Felt it is bit overpriced it may because of peak holiday season. We did not face any problem.
Travell to resort by boat was a beautiful memorable experience. It is very near to phranga caves and beach.
Room decor is good with large bathroom and a balcony which you can enjoy. Restuarant does not serve much vegetarian fare. No buffet for lunch or dinner available nor any snacks for evening.
If you are reaching there after 6pm you better book hotel transportation as boat service is only till 6pm, also railay east has sticky mud through which you have wade lifting luggage. This mess is not there if you reach railay west from Aonang side.

Room Tip: We stayed in corner delux room which provided us beautiful cliff view. If centre ones do not enjoy...

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon for 3 nights. Room was large and comfortable and hotel was in a decent location on east railay. Very close to east railay nightlife and only 5 min walk to west beach. We enjoyed our stay but for $400 USD per night you expect a level of service and cleanliness that we just didn't get here. I wouldn't stay here for more than $180 per night, especially since that amount of money typically goes pretty far in thailand.

Overall, the rooms and accommodation was just beautiful and super comfortable. We stayed in one of the cheapest rooms available and still had our own balcony with a fantastic view of the mountains. We were generally really happy with our stay except the food was not the best for the price that you pay. The buffet breakfast was included in the package however, the choices were not great and overall, I would have excepted more. The dinner we had there (using this 20% off voucher they gave us on arrival) was very overpriced (despite the discount) and you could get much tastier food on the island for half the price. I would not eat there personally and pay those type of prices. It's a shame the food wasn't that great but the rooms were definitely worthwhile.

Room Tip: Standard room (cheaper price) is just as good as the more expensive options.

Its pretty clear that the majority of these comments are from people who broke the bank just to stay at this hotel. If you can afford a grand, sea view or villa room without spending outside your means, this hotel is great!

The hotel overlooks a beautiful ocean that is covered in mangroves, in the morning and at night the tide comes right up to the hotels edge and is a great peaceful view. It is true that Bhu Nga Thani does not reside on the beautiful sandy beaches of West Raily, but its just a 10 minute walk to get there. So if you are not disabled or morbidly obese, this should not be an issue.

There is a pool bar with great and friendly staff, we spent a few afternoons sat at the pool drinking champagne and cocktails until dark. The staff are very attentive and quick to response to any extra touches you might require.

The sea view room is great, it has a balcony, a separate shower and a deep soaking bath tub. The partition between the room and toilet area is a great touch, since you will get explosive diaharea at least once.

Oh an check out the restaurant, its by far the best restaurant in Railay beach. Its a good place to start the evening before heading further up East Railay for more drinks and chilled music.

I recommend for especially for young cashed up travellers.

Room Tip: Sea view, grand or villa are the best rooms.

I stayed here for two nights in December and had a lovely time. The resort itself is beautiful and has a nice pool. The rooms were big and really comfortable and although the hotel is not located on a good beach the grounds are well maintained and it's only a shot walk to the west where the beaches are beautiful. There is a good variety at breakfast both continental, cooked and Thai and the hotel transfers are also smooth and easy to arrange. I would definitely stay here again.
