“A large property with some drawbacks”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

The rooms are fairly basic and are in long chains - about 8-10 rooms adjoining. The noise between rooms is noticeable, and given that guests going off at dawn to visit Himba you may find this a problem.

Some of the rooms are quite a few minutes walk from the central complex, and the ones furthest away seem to get noise from the camping area (or something noisy nearby - music , laughter and the occasional scream).

Meals were average, though the staff try hard in this regard.

Front desk staff were the poorest aspect of this stay - not helpful and lots of vague excuses. Checking-out may take a very long time.

The resident manager (new in 2013) is are of the shortcomings and trying to fix a few of them .

The main complex has a stunning view and an infinity pool which makes it a pleasant place to relax.

Very good infrastructures even if campsites were a bit crowded and without privacy (for Namibia!). Delicious restaurant with a nice terrace (wonderful view on the mountains) and swimming pool. The service is helpful...but not really efficient! Quite expensive.

We were just stopping over on our way to Epupa Falls. We had OK rooms with everything you expect.
The restaurant and the area in front of it is whar I am going to remember though. One of the most beautiful sundowners I'vre had and sitting outside eating a good meal was very nice.
The lodge is close to town but situated on a hill "llooking the other way you fell that you are way out of town.

After camping in the desert for a week, the Opuwo Country Lodge is really a pleasure. The buildings, staff and meals are excellent. The wine selection is good and reasonably priced.
The view from the deck and pool area is stunning. The rooms are clean, neat and the showers work very well. They have Internet WiFi and it works well in the main building, not in the rooms. This Lodge is by the best place in town.

Room Tip: The rooms don't have a wonderful view, But from the main building it is great. You might have Wi...

because this place reminds me about a German STRICT hostel. As we are sitting here working we kindly requested that the OVERPRICED dinner could be served in the sone where we could work: naimly in the reception area with adequate tables are available. Sorry: we have to sit outside in the cold to enjoy our overpriced dinner. We are hungry and do not dare to oppose the authourities in case they will not allow us to eat at ALL!! This place is a B&B with a great view bad service and everything overpriced. Staff seeems to be afraid for bosses... so it is not a pleasant place to stay , but as in the intro... it is the only possibly place in this area and maybe that is why management dont care at all... Welcome other establishments!!! And so the managers know who I am: bedsheets in my room had not been changed!!

We stayed at the Opowo Country Hotel (also refered to as the Opowo Country Lodge) in October of 2012 'en route' to the Epupa Camp and Falls.
From Opuwo it is about 180 kms gravel road to Epupa Falls and therefore a good (and recommended) place to stay over before taking on this drive through rural Himba Country.
We enjoyed our stay here and the Safari style Lodge was a pleasant surprise with awesome views over the beautiful lawned pool area towards the Kaokoland valley below!

Our rooms were neat and clean with aircons and mosquito nets, required for this northern area of Namibia.

The breakfast was good and the lounge setting beautiful. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the dinner (it was a set menu), as we thought that it was sub-standard and overpriced.

Overall, we will highly recommend this Lodge for it's African feel and beauty and for the great accommodation that it presents! (

We stayed in one of the luxury rooms, but had to asked at reception where the luxury was. We simply had a view at the back of the room in front of us. We arrived after dark and could impossibly find our room, had to go back to reception to get someone to help us find the place. The road towards the hotel is in a very bad condition, I was lucky I drove a 4x4. We had dinner but were kind of neglected as a large tour group had their attention. All tables were reserved for the group and they had us somewhat in a corner, no choice of menu neither, we were stuck with what the group had ordered.
Opuwo is a very interesting town and worth a 2 day visit. We visited one of the Himba villages with a local girl which we paid 100 namibian dollar per person whereas the hotel charged 400 ND pp. Ask for Marina , the tour guide in town, she is a very professional and helpful guide. You should also buy some groceries to give to the tribe as gift.
