“Solitude, Beauty and Comfort”

We were a large party of seven adults and were very comfortable in the large self catering cottage over Christmas. The ambience of the cottage is charming, and the jacuzzi was fun. The views were great and we found the staff at reception and in the restaurant to be very helpful and friendly. The Calamata olives they produce there are the best I have even tasted! They also do a good olive oil and a good balsamic vinegar. We will be going back there soon.

Room Tip: Our cottage was higher up and we liked having the view vantage point. There is also a cottage on th...

Mount Ceder is a secluded gem; perfect for a family holiday or a romantic getaway. We arrived on Christmas eve, and the charming lady in reception made us a quick (and delicious) snack before we drove about 5 minutes to our cottage. It was high up on one of the hills lining the valley, providing extraordinary views. The cottages are sparsely scattered through the valley, so one is blissfully unaware of other holidaymakers. The cottages are self-catering, but have all the necessary amenities, including a lovely braai (BBQ) area. We had a jacuzzi on our deck, which was a spectacular place to sit and lounge as the stars came out. And what stars! There's virtually zero light pollution, so once you switch off the cottage lights the night sky is breathtaking. I've lived in SA all my life and never seen a starscape such as can be seen at Mount Ceder.

And if you go; buy some Mount Ceder olives. They are superb, locally grown kalamata olives. We, sadly, didn't have a chance to go on any of the excursions, but I definitely wil lthe next time I visit.

We spent 3 nights at Mount Ceder. The location is absolutely stunning. Our cottage was set on the hillside above the river with awesome views. there is not a single man made sound to be heard. The cottage was great with a covered stoep on 3 sides & a brilliant built in braai. We had dinner in the restaurant on the final night which was excellent farmhouse style cooking.

The early morning experience of a swim in the river followed by breakfast on the terrace listening to the sound of the myriad of birds, is something that I will remember for a long time.

Room Tip: My preference would be for one of the cottages on the hillside above the river.

We had the privilege of visiting this beautiful spot in September. We had stayed in Peperboom (pepper tree) cottage. The experience is not one that I will soon forget. The cottage is cozy and romantic. It is neat, tidy and well equipped.

The farm itself and the surrounds are absolutely breathtaking. a short hike will take you to a rock painting site. A little bit further, by car, you will find sites like the Stadsaal (city hall) caves. All in all, anywhere you head from your cottage, you will be met with beautiful nature scenes. Do take a big enough memory card and extra batteries for your camera.

The area is rich in fossils, but remember that it is illegal to take any with you...

The staff are super-friendly and informative. Don't forget to pop in to the store before you leave for some preserves.

We stayed in Puntjie. There were only the two of us so I suppose it was a bit large, but we enjoyed it very much. We ordered braai food from the reception for the evenings and felt we were the only people in the world watching the stars from the jacuzzi, once I had turned on the heater and let the thing warm up for 6 hours. I think the staff think that it might be a nice place to cool down. But nobody can spend much time in a cold jacussi.
We drove back to reception for breakfast which was not spectacular but adequate.
During the day we went down to the river and swam in the pools. We drove up and did the wonderful waterfall hike- amazed by how cold the water seemed when we jumped in to cool down. We went horse riding and that was lovely with I believe the daughter of the lodge/farm who looked after us 'oldies who couldn't remember how to ride'.
You don't need a 4x4 to get there the roads were fine. It just takes longer on the dirt roads
A place to relax and take it easy. Settle into a good book beneath a thorn tree and do --not a lot!
Even the Puff adder who came and slept under our braai seemed very relaxed.

My wife and I recently spent two days at this really comfortable home from home in the cederberg mountains between Clanwilliam and Ceres. The bedrooms are nicely appointed and you'll find comfortable beds with great quality linen, pillows and towels. The kitchen has all the goodies to make your self catering experience, a pleasant one ( you also have the option of booking a meal in the main restaurant ) The attention to detain is evident and this makes ones stay very comfortable. Our house also included an outside jacuzzi. The houses are very well spaced approximately 500m from each other so it is very private and peaceful. The Groot river runs through the valley and I had great success with fly fishing, catching many blue gill and smallmouth bass on fly. The hosts are very friendly and so willing to assist and ensure you have a really comfortable stay at Mount Ceder.

Room Tip: There are a number of houses on the property and each offers it's own charm so choice is really...

We travelled a whole day through the Cedermountains with a few obstacles because the rainfall the last days, but when we arrived the sun was shining and the view was magnificant! We stayed in the Leeustert, a two sleeper cottage. It is a large cottage with a large bedroom and bathroom and a seperate kitchen on the right side with a wonderfull view at the mountains and sunset! The cottage had electricity and lightening because the solar panels on the roof. We ordered a 'braaipacket' when we made the reservation. It was very good! It consist of lot of meat, potatoes, beetroot, bread and salad. The kitchen is very well equiped and there is a fridge, a stove and a braai. You do need firewood for the bbq and when it's cold outside (we visited this place in begin september and there was a little bit of snow at the mountains) we suggest to buy a second packet of firewood to heat up your room for the night, otherwise it's too cold in the bedroom! And it's very romantic and cosy with a fireplace in the bedroom ;) When we woke up, we had a magnificant view from our bed!! And it's so quite outside ... WAAUW! We love it! We were disappointed that we had to go further ... We wanted to stay a little bit longer. It was a wunderfull expercience, basic but one of the best overnight we had. You can order a breakfast when you make a reservation,, but we had our breakfast in the maincottage, a little bit walk/drive from the cottage. This was also delicious. They also make their own olive oil. We bought 2 bottles and use them now in our kitchen at home :) When you come from the north of the Cedermountains you do need a 4x4 or car with high clearance (we had one with high clearance and we were glad to had this car!).
