The Cedar Lodge Hotel
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Had the pleasure to make a return visit to this tranquil area over the bank holiday weekend past with some work colleagues and booked into Cedar Lodge. Once again, found it to be charming and relaxing with everyone so genuinely hospitable and attentive. Great food served in the restaurant and my compliments to their chef and staff. Enjoyed drinks in the elegant bar nightly after dinner.
I must comment in reading some recent posts on here,a few have negative things to say about this premises and I find them baseless and quite at odds with my pleasant experience at the lodge.

Room Tip: All rooms our group has tried are always clean and restful.

Just returned from two night stay in Cedar Lodge Hotel. Overall experience disappointing.
The hotel is nicely decorated but there is a strong smell of damp in corridors and whilst bedroom was good size, the bed felt damp (this is after the Irish heatwave of July).
The biggest disappointment was the standard of food. We were cajolled into having the evening dinner; this consisted of a set price for a three course meal. Despite the expensive price, the choice was limited and the food average. It has been forty years since I had jelly and ice cream for my desert in a reputable restaurant.
The standard of breakfast was very poor for a four star hotel. No menus. Buffet had no choice of juice, there was a bowl of fruit (apples, oranges, bananas) but no prepared fruit salad or grapefruit. There was no cold meats or cheese. There were no pastries.
The Irish breakfast was small and poor quality sausage and bacon. Suggest owner uses local butcher who may be able to provide better quality meat.Coffee was undrinkable.
The service from the staff was generally good, however it was boardering on becoming intrusive at times.
Overall the standard was what I would expect from a budget two/three star hotel, certainly not a four star.

One night stay - a break away midweek. Very much enjoyed the peace and quiet. the hotel isn't new - and there is some wear and tear, but nothing that feels out of place in a small, family run hotel. The glass entrance area is lovely - the bar cosy and the bedroom, with pine furnishings, was comfortable. The staff and owner were friendly without being stuffy. We'd like to come back again and stay for more then one night.

We stayed at the Cedar Lodge on the night of the 26th of July 2013 and were delighted by it. Despite a ferry trip which turned into a mid-sea rescue which made us late arrivals, Tom and Marie were prepared to keep the restaurant open for us. We were made to feel welcome and our every request was catered to. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Ireland, - I shall certainly be using it again on our next visit, in fact as we shall be visiting Ireland twice a year, it will be a regular stopping off point. All I can say is 'well done Guys' the place has a great atmosphere, - it is beautiful, - just like the Guinness! :)

Room Tip: I didn't rate the 'children's activities' and 'fitness centre' as we did not...

The first thing that hits you when you enter this hotel is the overpowering smell of floral air freshener It soon becomes clear why. The rooms are damp even in temperatures of 25c outside the bed cloths were damp and there is a heavy smell of dampness when you remove the air fresheners from your room. When we returned home my wife had to wash all the clean cloths that were hung in the closet (There are no wardrobes) The conditions in the room were a health hazard. The bathroom only has a very poor shower over bath and the tile grouting looked as if a 5 year old child had applied it. There is an old 70s style TV that only has 5 channels and despite the pathetic attempt at double glazing you can still hear the lorries thundering by throughout the night. The decor and furnishing in the whole place is reminiscence of an old folks home. The owner tries to force you to book dinner in his restaurant before you even reach your room. But please heed this WARNING if your unlucky enough to arrive here be warned DO NOT ENTER YOUR PIN NUMBER TO "VALIDATE” YOUR CARD. If you do he will take the full payment immediately for the time you have booked and also carries out the transaction in sterling without your permission so you lose out on the exchange rate I suspect he does this because so many people run after one night and only pay for the one night We had a very valid reason for leaving but in truth we would have left anyway. Breakfast was a nightmare they served instant coffee and had to be asked to provide proper coffee the so called Irish breakfast was over cooked and swimming in oil. We were forced to pay £377.83 for one miserable nights stay but it was worth it just to escape. This is a hotel living on past glories of 30 years ago the owners are rude and quiet frankly disgrace the good name of hard working Irish accommodation providers of which there are many. I wonder where the good reviews have come from??? This is NOT a 4 star hotel it is barely a 2 star, and there is a whiff of desperation in the owners behavior.

We returned to stay in Cedar Lodge - weekend of 21st -23rd June

.On arrival we were welcomed back by the manager who was most welcoming and professional
.
Our room was large and spotless - crisp white linen on bed.

We dined in the restaurant on Fri night. The food was excellent as was the presentation. Excellent selection of wines.

On Sat night we were attending a 'family gathering'. We informed the hotel receptionist that we would be late back. This was not a problem.

The main door is locked at 12 midnight, but there is always a person on duty to admit the 'late comers'.
A outdoor security light illuminates the car park all night.
On the corridors there are several emergency exits.

We enjoyed our stay in Cedar Lodge and we will return.

Room Tip: Beds are most comfortable. It is reassuring to know that this hotel is security aware. Guest leave t...

On the advice of a well travelled friend, stayed here while over for recent festivities. My wife and I felt welcome and right at home from the time we arrived. Our bedroom was airy and fresh, meals were tasty and wholesome and the premises overall was modern and clean. Staff were very cordial in all respects and kindly helped us with our wifi connection daily. Location is good off the N25 and with easy parking. To us, I served as an ideal base for daily tours in the South East and we would happily return there on future visits.

Room Tip: Double glazed room windows made it cozy and quiet at all times.
