“Weary travellers find their perfect place to rest”
Reviewed October 3, 2011

Just left after our third visit. This delightful family run hotel is right on our route south from Santander, but would be similarly appealing for someone wanting a few days peace in a country retreat that is only 10 minutes off the motorway and half an hour or so from Leon. Your host family have literally left no stone unturned to bring a ruined village homestead back to life, with every effort made to source original and authentic building materials, lovely yet functional and comfortable antique furnishings, and elegant modern convenient bathrooms. Add in to the mix your charming hosts, who only want you to enjoy everything they have worked so hard to offer you, the delicious local food personally cooked by mum and the intriguing and eclectic works of art that decorate the walls and niches and you have a memorable, restful and re-energising stay. Book early to avoid disappointment - this is a special place!

Room Tip: All the rooms are charming and well appointed, but the one above the entrance on the first floor and...

Very tastefully rebuilt in original style but with very modern touches. Interesting rooms with antique furniture and very modern bathrooms. Restaurant is charming relaxed but sumptuously decorated; food was simple but well cooked and good value. Service was very good and Ruben one of the two sons speaks good English and happy to give plenty of information on the Area. We had booked two nights but a change of plans meant we only stayed one night so we were unable to explore the area but there seems plenty of interesting towns to visit. There is almost nothing in the village and no where else to eat but in the Hotel, which is not a problem.
Our only criticism the bed in our room was a little small and we are not large so I would think if you need a large bed go for the twin room. Also although in a very peaceful location there are quite a few country noises from dogs, cockerels and chiming clocks, which might trouble light sleepers.
Well worth driving off the beaten track for

We spent only two nights in this cozy and charming family-run hotel in the tiny village of Luyego de Somoza, near the Leon Province city of Astorga. Thoughtfully rebuilt from an old dilapidated stone building, Hosteria Camino has nine individually appointed rooms (each named for a constellation), with antigue furniture but modern bathrooms. The village is very sleepy, but the surrounding area is beautiful and the valley is loaded with similar villages. The kitchen is run by the mother (whose middle name is Hosteria - hence the name), whose life-long dream had been to have a restaurant. Her husband and sons manage the hotel and the front of the house. Service is top-notch and personalized. We were a group of six, including two small children, and we could not have had a nicer time at this little hotel, which is part of the Turismo Rural network in Spain. Highly recommended if you are looking for a peaceful few days in the countryside.

  • Liked — The family-run atmosphere
  • Disliked — Our bed was smallish - but I am tall.
