Description: Recommended by Michelin 2010 We stopped here by happy accident this Sunday lunchtime. Run by a husband and wife team the food is outstanding and excellent value for money. Just down the road from Sissinghurst Castle. Hugh's food and Leonora's charming service deserve a wider audience.

This is our third visit to this restaurant and we were greeted like old friends.
Nothing is too much trouble for Lee and her staff. The food is really well cooked and always perfectly presented. The three course meal is modestly priced considering what you get for the cost, the choice is well varied and should suit most tastes. Although we don't have any particular dietary requirements i'm sure that Hugh would be able to accommodate them, especially if notified in advance.
I don't know of any other restaurant that has such a friendly atmosphere, beautifully tasty food and all at a reasonable cost.
We had a lovely evening and will make sure that we return when next in the area.

We have visited this restaurant four times now and have loved every visit (soon to visit for our fifth). We first went just myself and my wife and where welcomed by the female co-owner Lee. All smiles and genuine chit chat we were welcomed in an sat at our table. The service is relaxed but timely and allows for enough time to select your drinks and ponder the menu. We love the food here, a touch of speciality and the chef clearly has a great deal of passion as well as ability in the kitchen. Its the little personal extras that you just do not get in the large establishments such as warm home made bread brought out and refilled and small appetisers which allow you to try something new. The price for us is very reasonable, for three course meal for two with bottle of wine, cheese course, coffees and chocolates all for less than £100 at the quality that is delivered here is unheard of. In comparison you can take yourself to some chain restaurants and expect to pay the same if not more for simple dishes that you could cook at home and without the personal and entertaining service. Summed up we enjoy the food and personalised service and it has brought us back time and time again. I would thoroughly recommend a visit and I am sure you will enjoy a meal here. Especially if you appreciate a good hostess with a great interest in you and what brings you there. This is a place where you can create your own atmosphere or appreciate the hush tones and a conversation with your partner or family. We will be sorely missing this restaurant when we have to relocate!

A gem of a restaurant, we have been going here once or twice a year for the last seven years and keep going back for the quality of the food and the excellant service. Lee is very welcoming and chatty but does know when to leave you in peace. They only take one booking per table each night so you are never rushed to make room for the next sitting. The food is locally sourced wherever possible, we do see the owners out shopping locally where we buy our own food so we know where it comes from. The prices are at the treat end of our budget, but knowing that the quality is there makes it worthwhile. If you want to try a truly family owned & run good class restaurant you could do a lot worse than head for here.

Although only open 4 days a week (Thurs - Sun) it is well worth a visit for a special occasion, if you are willing to spend a little more. Three courses were £30 ish but delicious. Do not go if you want to be left alone as the hostess/co-owner is very chatty and friendly.

Rankins to use their own words "do lunch on a Sunday, but not Sunday lunch"; in other words, it's the normal restaurant menu, not the usual Sunday roast/carvery found elsewhere. My wife and I were on our own in the restaurant but the difference (mentioned in the title of his review) was that we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This was down to the welcome and friendliness of Lee and Hugh, coupled with the excellent meal - and yes the haddock smokie is as good as everyone has said on this website! A bonus to lunch was that we found out some of the history of Sissinghurst from Lee. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
