We did a one day snorkeling tour with Chris to several Gilis and we had an amazing time; I would very warmly recommend anyone to book with Authentic Lombok Tours - they are the #1 travel agency for a reason! Chris is a fantastic guide with inside knowledge on everything concerning Lombok and Indonesia. Beyond that, he’s a very friendly person with a great sense of humor, terrific stories and some good advice. Spending time with him was really a privilege! Moreover, the places he took us were truly untouched and beautiful. We saw sea turtles, sea horses, coral, beautiful beaches and so on. We had a great time and made a new friend. :)

I was nervous taking the children snorkelling, as my youngest (age 6) is only just learning to swim and is not comfortable in the water just yet.
I had no need to worry.

Chris (friendly old Greek man ) picked us up from our villas in Senggigi, stopping on the way to buy delicious treats from a little Warung in Mataram.
He has many a story to tell, and I instantly felt calmer and let my mind let go of the anxieties I held.
We did have a slight problem on the road, where someone rolled back in to us, which then ended up in a slight altercation...but it wasn't long before we were back on the road and off to the coastline.
The boat is a slow traditional fishing boat, that was just perfect for where we were going, and two local guides hopped on with us, to drive the boat, and also lead us in our snorkelling adventures.

SEE THESE GILI'S IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE BEAUTIFUL UNDERWATER WILDLIFE PEACEFULLY AND WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.

I say that in capitals because everyone only ever talks about the three "famous" gili's. The problem with them though, is the thousands of tourists, the trashed beaches, and the disrespect that is held for these beautiful islands, for the sake of a "good party".
One day, these gili's we saw on our holiday, will probably succumb to the same fate, so go soon- go now.

My children absolutely LOVED snorkelling. Chris taught them just what they needed to do, and before long even our 6 year old daughter was snorkelling like an absolute pro.
The boys even got to drive the boat, and ride on the edges with their hands in the water (something they loved doing).

We were luckily enough to see FOUR turtles, lion fish, sea cucumbers, a plethora of starfish, sea horses and of course thousands of different fish all swimming about us.
The local guides were absolutely fantastic and we felt so safe and lucky to be there.

Yes, it is a little more expensive than other tours, but EVERYTHING is included, and we do not regret a thing.
Would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone- especially those with young children

We took the family deal, which was 5 of us by ourselves.
Chris picked us up at our hotel, stopping on the way to the boat, to buy breakfast items for us all. After a long drive, we arrived at south west Lombok, to our traditional boat. Chris had no problem communicating stories with ease, which made the drive seem like nothing.
We climbed aboard and headed to the first snorkeling spot. During the cruise out, Chris spent lots of time working with the 3 kids, getting them ready, as this was the first time snorkeling for all of them. Our youngest doesn't yet swim properly, so he had provided a floatation jacket, just for her, so she could be part of the day.
After a few nervous moments, from all kids, they had a thoroughly enjoyable day. With snorkeling in 4 different locations and lunch on an uninhabited island.
On the journey home, Chris stopped to buy us all local, steamed corn cobs.
During our dives we managed to see turtles, star fish, sea horses, Nemo (awesome for the youngest), sea snail, sea cucumber, lion fish and numerous other things too long to list.
Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable day, with only one minor hicup, when a car in front of us rolled backwards into the front of the car.
I would recommend snorkeling with Chris, as a family, as he take the time with the kids, so they can experience the wonders as well.

With my girlfriend we took the Gili snorkeling tour with Chris. We had an amazing time the whole day. Dealing with Chris and his team was a pleasure. He was super accommodating and made the trip extremely enjoyable. He takes you to Gilis where there is almost nobody except you, and the corals and in much better shape. We saw turtles, sea horses and tons of other interesting marine life. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone in Lombok.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend the day yesterday with Chris and to have him show us around Lombok. We have been travelling around Indonesia for 2 1/2 weeks thus far, and this was easily one of our top highlights! If you are looking to see Lombok on a deeper level than is normally presented to tourists, then this is a must do! Be sure to book your tours a couple months in advance, as we were told they book up quickly.

Here are some specifics of our experience, though I get the sense that each trip is a bit different, with some opportunities along the way for guests to make decisions.

Chris was prompt with picking us up from our hotel, and quickly settled into chatting like we were old friends. Our day started at an authentic food market, were we wandered around while Chris chatted with local stall owners and secured us all of the fruit we could hope for. Next stop was a small local store where Chris picked us up snacks and water for the rest of the day.

From there we headed to a weaving shop. Chris was upfront at warning us that this was a bit more of a tourist sight than he normally takes his guests to, but he thinks the opportunity to see the weaving done and to be dressed up in ceremonial garb is worth it. As we walked around, Chris got some of the ladies working the looms to strap me in to have a try.

Next stop was a local pottery village that Chris has befriended. You could tell he was really well liked by the villagers, as they excitedly called out greetings to us and came to chat with Chris. We were lucky enough to arrive just as some villagers were firing a bunch of pots, and with Chris's explanation and interpretation they walked us through the whole technique. We also had the chance to try our hand at making a bowl under the watchful eye of one of Chris's good friend Julia. We will never forget this exceptional experience.

Our next stop was the beach for a beautiful swim and great coffee. After this we drove into the hills for a great early dinner with a spectacular view.

I don't know how far we drove yesterday, but it seems like we covered a large part of the island, with Chris providing anecdotes about all the places we passed along the way. While we saw numerous amazing things, our discussions with Chris about the reality of life on Lombok, the struggles people face, and the political landscape really helped to inform us.

At no point in this trip were we surprised with extra expenses or confronted with situations were we felt pressure to buy things we didn't want to. Chris was even nice enough to send a car to our hotel this morning to return some of our things we left in his car, saving us a trip to him to retrieve them!

We wish we were here longer so that we could have booked another trip today! Thanks again for such a great experience!
