“Adventures in Paradise”
Reviewed January 21, 2012

We spent 3 nights at this resort having initially stayed 5 nights at another accommodation house in Senggigi. Location is 1st class being very close to the town centre - easy walking distance. The setting is very picturesque with lawn area and many swaying coconut palms amongst other vegetation. The Hotel has it's own private beach which is great in that you have plenty of room and you are not pestered by people looking to sell you touristy things. Beach is white sand. I did snorkeling from the beach front daily - lots of good stuff to see particularly adjacent to the cliffs/rocks on the RHS. Swimming pool is excellent with plenty of room to move around. Includes a water slide where you enter the water through a mouth of what looks like a Voodoo man with red eyes. Breakfast and food generally was excellent. Very good value for money here, no problems at all.

Room Tip: We had a seaside Delux Room which was fantastic - balcony overlooking the grassed area of the resort...

Been coming here with the family twice a year for 3 years, often with family or friends. We keep coming back because we love it, which is why this last couple of times we've been saddened to see it going downhill. Some changes are not within their control but most are.

With the opening of the new Lombok Airport, and the closure of the old airport, the hotel is now an hour away from the airport instead of 20 minutes, so it loses the advantage of convenience. They have also done away with the Airport Lounge on departure - which was a small benefit but noticed.

What we love about the hotel:
- Some great staff who recognise us, welcome us by name, treat us like friends. Arriving, we really feel welcomed back by porters, receptionists, even the egg cooker at breakfast reognises us with a warm welcome.
- The best part, the bar with sunset happy hour - sit back and watch a golden sunset with a Long Island in hand, Fantastic.
- Nice white sand beach, clean, ok for snorkelling, with boatmen and hawkers who are not pushy and will mostly leave you in peace.
- Good selection of bars/restaurants within 3 minutes walk along the beach - The Office for British pub grub and curries, Da Quake for restaurant dining.
- Nice rooms with comfy beds, shower, and nice terraces on ground floor
- Seafood barbecue nights with great seafood, tables on the beach, this is what it is about!
- A pool with water slide, wet bar and enough features to keep the kids happy all day.
- nice spa with some great masseuses giving professional, quality massage to the sound of the waves.
- reasonable prices, good value.

What we don't like about the hotel:
- Stupid price for an extra bed - I could buy the bed within a week.
- Some great staff - but some at the other end of the spectrum. The main waiter in the bar has been there for a year - and still cannot cope with an order for a vodka & tonic - or many other orders for that matter!!
- Maintenance. The first time I came the ground floor terraces had rotting wooden banisters with rusty nails openly exposed. Three years later they are still there - rusty nails sticking out of banisters, struts etc, waiting to give you a dose of tetanus or similar.
- The rooms haven't been upgraded or refurbished in years.
- The only wireless internet is in the lobby and even if your room is the first door after the lobby, you cannot access wireless. A
- The only restaurant is closed at lunch time!! Want to eat in the day, it's the bar or room service! Isn't the food from the one and same kitchen? So why can't we sit in the restaurant at lunch time????

So in summary, 2-3 years ago this was one of our top favourite hotels. We keep coming back twice a year, every year. But gradually the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives and it's becoming less and less special - or perhaps the few annoyances are becoming more and more obvious. Either way, i can see us, in 5 months time, seriously looking for alternatives.

Room Tip: Avoid 2nd Block, it is adjoining the lobby and if you are on ground or first floor you will be distu...

Dear Guests,

I would like to say thank you for sharing your comment about our resort that obviously you know pretty well.
We are glad to receive your feedback about like and dislike and for the second one, we will definitively take corrective action and hopefully on your next stay, we will have fixed or improved in many of your points.
However, regarding our rooms bit aged now, we are seriously working on a renovation plan and no schedule has been yet finalized but it is for us a major subject of concern.
We all look forward to welcoming you soon and to regain a position of your top favorite hotels.

Warmest regards

Reviewed January 12, 2012

Spent 7 nights here the first week of January 2012.  We booked two garden / ocean view deluxe rooms with starpoints on the ground floor in building 5.  The nicest thing about the room was the small terrace on the back that overlooked the rather nice grounds and the ocean in the distance.  The room itself was nice enough, but the bathrooms were quite dated and the worst thing was that there were tiny black ants EVERYWHERE!!!  They weren't biting ants, but were in the bed, on the floor, in the bathrooms, etc.

The restaraunts and food  were nice.  We ate at the bar next to the spa for most meals as it has the best view of the ocean and you get the full restaraunts menu there. The pool was great.  Kids spent all day there and had fun on the slide.  Beach is only average.  We stayed out of the water after the second day when a girl was attacked by a palolo worm which bores into your feet and lays eggs in your toes.  Was quite dramatic as the hotel staff had to hit her feet with small rocks to break up or kill the worms that were buried in her toes.  The hotel put up warning signs about there being jelly fish in the water, but that is maybe because it is the only warning signs they had.

Given that it is Indonesia, you have to give the place a it of a discount... But we spoke to one family who had come all the way from London specifically to come to the Sheraton resort and were very disappointed with their decision.

Lombok is being touted as the new Bali.  But I don't see it.  We took a day tour to see some of the local hindu temples, but it was quite disappointing.  We're extremely run down and kept getting hit up for more donations to the temple for every new thing we saw.  Also,  we did not do any diving while there, which is a big motivational factor to come to Lombok from what I understand so maybe that is reason enough.  But if you are in the region, there are many other better options in Thailand, Malaysia and other areas in Indonesia.

Also, now that there is a direct flight to Lombok from Russia, the guests were about 80% Russian given that the first week of the year is their major holiday.  Just an FYI....

Dear guests,

I would like to say thank you for reviewing your stay with us and I am sorry if we delivered less than you were expected.
Regarding the ants issue, it occurred in some rooms during heavy rain at beginning of January, especially the ones located at ground floor however, we have increased the frequency of our pest control in order to solve this issue.
In other matter, it is true that unfortunately a child was hurt by a kind of jelly fish on the foot and our team well trained gave first aid and after a little while, the little daughter was fine.
Concerning your disappointment about your tour, if you are interested in hindu temple, I would rather recommend you to visit the ones in Bali. Lombok is more famous for its landscape with beautiful beaches in the south, great trekking to Rinjani volcan and so much more…
Due to a special promotion in January, we received more bookings from Russian guests than usual, exactly 12 rooms which means 8% of our occupancy and not 80% as you mentioned.
Thank you for praising our food and service and we do hope that you will give us another opportunity to better serve you in a near future

Warmest regards

Dear guest,

Thank you for expressing your comment following your stay with us.
We have acknowledged all your remarks and we will definitively take corrective action on the minuses points that you have mentioned.
Regarding the room, as we are in raining season, the level of humidity is accentuated that could explain why you found the room a bit damp.
We wish that you will visit us again soon and notice our improvement.

This is a dated Sheraton and really should be given a clean up. Although general maintenance was OK, the bathrooms need to be de-molded. Admittedly it was high season, but we had booked way in advance, but they still initially gave us an end room which had a lot of traffic noise. When we complained (my partner is Platinum with Starward), they apologised and moved us to a quieter room near the lobby.

Unfortunately, because of the promixity to the road or their own septic works, there is a constant smell of open drain near the lobby entrance. If you sit further away, there is far less noticable odours. People congregate near the lobby as there is free wifi here and people have comfortable lounge chairs to sit in. In the rooms, you will need a connecting cable to your laptop.

It's a good hotel close to various Senggigi shops. Breakfast buffets had a good selection for everyone. We stayed for four nights and had two dinner buffets. If you go for the dinner buffet make sure you go early for the fresh prawns otherwise when they are gone like the other dishes, they don't renew it. On the last night we dined in-house at their other eatery and was pleasantly surprised at the good quality of food compared to outside. We had the opportunity to use our Staward Priviledge Card which made in-house dining overall cheaper. We ate out for lunch and one dinner so we feel qualified to comment on the food and service. Don't expect top service here at dining. The waiting staff are very unsure and service training is urgently required; we constantly had to tell them to clear our plates, give us finger water bowls and fresh napkins.

The beach is not too bad and the swiming pool is pleasant. They have a dive shop near the hotel who booked us a nice trip to Gili Islands for a day.

There are not many shops near the hotel but a number of restaurants are nearby. The best tip I can give anyone is if you are prepared to walk a little, there is a fantastic money changer who gives very good exchange conversion rates from US and Aust dollars (.9430 Rph for $AU1 recently).

Overall, it's a good hotel for families and couples and financially, For the price and location, it's a good, if not top hotel. If they can only do something about the smell...

Room Tip: Rooms near the lobby are quieter than rooms near the wings.

Dear guests,

I would like to say thank you for reviewing and describing so much in detail our resort following your experience with us which was overall rather successful.

The unpleasant smell that occurred unfortunately for few days was due to a wrong dosage of chemical from our laundry department, it result a damage of our septic tank by killing natural bacteria and developed this smell only in this specific area. However, this problem is resolved now.

We are delighted that you have appreciated our food selection and quality nevertheless we will implement some training to improve our service standards.

We do hope that you will visit us again and we can ensure you that this time you will not be disturbed by any smell.

Looking forward to welcoming you again soon.

we had a 6 day stay at this Sheraton over Christmas; the pool is good, the service is pretty spotty, sometimes its good, and at other times, its pretty weak. The front desk staff is quite nice as is the travel desk. Probably the weakest link here, is the food. its really poor, and average, usually below average. We did get an upgrade on our room, which was a nice touch as we have a family..rates are good here, so if youre willing to put up with spotty service, its well worth the stay..pretty relaxing overall..

Room Tip: Starwood Gold gets you things here.

Dear guests,

We would like to say thank you for choosing our resort to celebrate Christmas and we are sorry if the experience that we delivered was not entirely at your level of expectation. Maybe due to busy period, we have failed in some rare occasion to deliver the service and food that we usually provide and we will take necessary action to ensure a better consistency in this area.

Hotel mainly good but main problem for us was noise. The rooms have virtually no insulation and doors have gaps and you can hear everyone's conversations and comings and goings as though you stood next to them. We had room furthest from road and traffic was still loud.

In room facilities ok but no wifi, only in reception. Asked daily for breakfast tea for room to be told they had none (although they did at breakfast).

Not enough sun beds and quite a few had to lie on beach towel on beach.

Eat and drank outside hotel as hotel expensive but many bars on beach and down main road so no problem. Also a few ATMs on main road.

Dear guest,

I would like to say thank you for commenting your experience with us.
We are very sorry that you have been annoyed by external noise but during this celebration period of New Year Eve, the road close by is pretty busy and can create some disturbance.
During high occupancy like the last 2 weeks, we might not have enough sun beds for all our guests but we are in progress to purchase some additional for you comfort.
It is a fact that we are more expensive that many restaurants and bars around the hotel therefore you can select venues according to your budget and expectation.
We do hope that you will visit us again soon and this time in a quieter period.
Warmest regards
