We came here for lunch and the food just weren't that great. I ordered a grilled mahi-mahi and while it was quite fresh, the cooking didn't do it justice. Partner ordered a burger and it was very average. Juice was not that great either.

We are beginning to wonder if Tripadvisor has had its day. Everywhere we go there is a certificate of excellence awarded by Tripadvisor and we feel staff are being extra especially polite and nice, while handing out cards encouraging you to comment on you experience. It's all getting a little overbearing, obvious and saccharin.
Back to Taman. It's the obvious place to go once you have driven along the Main Street. It's brightly lighten and looks very welcoming and seems to be be the busiest place in Senggigi, no mean feat when it's the start of the rainy season and the place is deserted.
As you do, we read all the comments on here and concluded that here was a place probably worth going to but not to get too excited.
The staff were very welcoming. The drinks came quickly. We ordered some western style starters, nachos, potato wedges, samosas. They all arrived quickly and the only comment we have is that they were all a little underdone. The would be Aussie amongst us had a chicken parmy and the other main was some Idonesian noodles. No real complaints but no real enthusiasm either.
Our conclusion was its a great place for a drink, especially with the live band playing. I'm not sure we would return for food but, that said, we may end up buying stuff from the deli tomorrow!
Lombok and Bali seem to have the same menu wherever you choose to eat. Unless you go really upmarket (and pay the price) the food is pretty much the same which ever restaurant you choose.

The Taman restaurant is right in the heart of the tourist strip in Senggigi. It is quite a large restaurant however is still very classy and there is a great atmosphere about it - the band that was there the night we went were awesome. It has a great variety of meals for very good prices, the Pina Coladas were the best I had in Senggigi!

While wondering down from the Sheraton on Senggigi beach, one is greeted with a plethora of sounds , smells and smiles.

The choices can be overwhelming for a 1st time traveller, (as a member of our travelling party discovered). For those of us more experienced,we eagerly marched our way down the street with empty bellies, full wallets and a need to be satisfied with the prospect of Chilli Crab, selection of delectable treats such as Mixed Satays and for our less adventurous companion - good ole chicken Parma!

After checking reviews we decided to try the renown restaurant The Square. One thing upon arriving we noticed 2 things no music, no people. Shocked by this discovery we turned and looked to see if anything else looked appealing - that's when we saw our orange oasis - The Taman Restaurant .

Checking out the menu before we ventured in - we quickly saw the menu had everything which suited everyone's taste. Cocktails were a decent price (about $5 Aus) and they had a band playing for the many patrons there.

My crab was exquisite! The cocktails hit the spot after an afternoon of shopping and both of my travel companions enjoyed their respective mee goreng and chicken Parma selections.

After dinner, the owner Peter meanders through diners asking them if their Taman Restsurant experience was an enjoyable one, along with friendly chat before moving on.

This isn't the number 1 restaurant based on food - but for us it's number 1 for Atmosphere, ambience and friendless. They even provide transport free if charge to take u back to your hotel which saves the stress if getting a taxi late at night.

Thank you to our Taman Friends!

We were looking for a cheap meal for lunch and found it at the Taman. Nothing special, but adequate. Beer was cold though!!
