My husband and I are not 'complainers' and I do not believe I have ever had to post such a review like this, but please be aware. We stayed for 2 nights at this 'hotel' (questionable?) as part of a KGB deal. The complimentary wine was never received despite this being part of the deal and something we had paid for and would have helped greatly to get us through our stay. Our room door lock was operated by a Chubb key however to lock the room was a near impossibility. On our first attempt it took two of us and a workman to finally lock the door. Second occasion the owner had to get a spare key to lock it. Following day I was stood out on small landing area while my husband wrestled with the door lock yet again, when I felt water dripping down from the ceiling above (it was raining). The water was seaing through onto exposed wires and close to the ceiling light. My usband reported this fault to a woman (member of staff perhaps - who knows no-one ever seemed to be around or introduced themselves?) she seemd indifferent to the possible fire hazard. On returning the same day, we found a discarded washing up bowl on the floor of the landing area, collecting water from the leaky ceiling. We had to negotiate the bowl to get through the landing door and to gain access to our room. The washing bowl remained there for remainder of our stay. On final morning, we went downstairs for our 8.40am booked breakfast. The dining room door was locked and the hotel in darkness. Finally the 'cook' unlocked the door in a dishevelled state and told us to come back in half an hour (and we thought we were the 'guests'?). We eventually managed to sit down for breakfast and said 'cook' asked us if we required tea or coffee. We asked for tea. This never came. I ordered poached eggs, one of which was completely inedible. We would have asked for our order of a pot of tea - but there didn't seem to be anyone else around - which was a mystery because surely at least the owners of this 'hotel' should have been up and about making the place hospitable for its guests?. There were only FOUR people for breakfast in the hotel so it was unbelievable that a pot of tea could not be served. We were both glad to go home. A great shame as I was there to celebrate my Birthday and should have been so special. Never again. I did e-mail them on my return home, but as suspected, still waiting for a reply.

We went here for a 2 night break and found the place did not open untill 4pm.We booked in and were asked to order our evening meal by 5pm so that the chef could go around to the local supermarket for provisions. We were then shown up the very steep stairs to Room No2. When we were left we looked at the room which was filthy. There was no matress cover on the bed and no pillow protectors, the pillows were old and shabby. the bed linen was old and the curtains thin and also old. The toilet ceiling was covered in cobwebs,
and the wall above the headboard was the same.We then went down to the bar/reception where the owner was standing and we asked to see the member of staff who had shown us to the room.We explained that the room was dirty and were told that he would go up and clean it.We then said that we would like another room when the owner turned round and said that he had been in the hoteltrade for 30 years and that his rooms were cleaned daily which they obviously were not.He then turned quite nasty and said "YOU CAN HAVE A REFUND GET YOUR BAGS AND GET OUT". He then threw the money on the bar.In all the hotels that we have stayed in both in the UK and abroad we have never been treated in this way.We would therefore recommend that everybody should stay away from this grotty place as it is nothing like the photographs.

Room Tip: Don't book this place

Stayed here with my boyfriend last year for two nights. The place is a little run down and could do with updating. The room itself was a decent size and the shower was powerful, however we were really disappointed by the bed. It was one of the most uncomfortable beds either of us had slept in, the room had an extra single bed in the room and for the second night we had to resort to pulling the duvet off that and laying it on top of our mattress to try and make it more comfortable. However, the main concern for us was that in the morning we found a spare key (presumably for the cleaners) had been left on the windowsill outside our room the whole time so anybody could have let themselves in. Despite this we really enjoyed the breakfasts here, they were very tasty and the chef (who also served us) was very polite and helpful.

Just returned from super 2day break at Lord Nelson. Can't fault it. Clean, friendly and fabulous food. Would recommend it for a relaxed quiet break! Good location for Telford, Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Long Mynd and The Wrekin.
