“Another great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

Returned to the Cock Hotel for a second visit. The stay was as great as the last time. Wonderful cooked breakfast, large and comfortable room. An amazing range of real ales, european lagers and some ciders in the bars downstairs. The landlady, landlord and bar staff create a wonderful ambience to the place with their friendly, helpful way. The Hotel does not serve evening meals or lunch, but we found a great place to eat, 20 minutes walk away, The Old Orleton Inn, which also stocked a Hobson's real ale and had a good wine list. We will definitely return to stay here

Christmas time - Phoned on the Tuesday and they made a cock up on the bed room, I asked for. However the size was just amazing - not only was it huge they even filled our stockings when we left as a nice Christmas filler. Would defiantly recommend to friends and family.

Great selection of real ales,
Great bar staff.
Excellent pork pies from paddy Reilly's in nearby Much Wenlock.
Try the hobsons best bitter that's my favourite, but they're all good.
I've never had a bad pint in the cock yet.
Oh and the scratchings are good as well.

I stayed here for two nights. My well-refurbished room was a delight: comfortable, warm, quiet (double glazing to keep out the traffic noise from the B roads that the Hotel is on) with a comfortable bed.
The pub downstairs is a busy, attractive, old Inn that when I visited had 7 varied, mainly local real ales and some real ciders. The ales I had were in perfect condition. Friends who joined me for a quick drink one night loved the Inn and its drinks.
The owners made me really welcome, and went that extra mile for me, for example, booking tables at nearby restaurants.
Breakfast was superb, cooked to order using good quality ingredients. Even my early start on a Sunday did not seem to cause a problem.
Parking was easy due to the large adjacent car park.
I would like to stay again.

Well, '498KathC', your title review was what I was going to use too!! I reiterate everything you mentioned, as well as other reviewers' comments. We arrived very late, after an horrendous journey, but were greeted with such a warm welcome by Liz and Peter.

Okay, so the outside doesn't give a good first impression, but it really is what on the inside that counts.

We had room 1, refurbished to a standard worthy of a trendy boutique hotel room, very clean with a modern en suite bathroom.

We met some of the locals and would most definitely return.

Breakfast cooked to order and Liz and Peter really couldn't have done anymore to make us more at home, they were brilliant hosts.

The bar areas, again, whilst dated, were clean, it was a proper pub!!!

A great place to stay to explore the surrounding areas, Shewsbury, Telford, Ironbridge etc.

Room Tip: Only had 2 rooms, ours was room 1.

We arrived and initially thought not what we was expecting as the outside needs a re vamp, but inside was a lovelly friendly bar area with many different beers. The room was excellant with a lovely spacious bathroom. water, tea and coffee making was provided. The hosts were very friendly and nothing was too much for them. The breakfasts were good with local produce used so very tasty bacon. We will definately be visiting again, wish it was our local pub. We spent 2 nights there as it was our wedding anniversary on the Sunday, so glad we chose this place

Appearances are deceiving ! This old coaching inn (lodge) could tell a tale or two if only it could talk Ha Ha ! We received a warm welcome by our hosts and nothing was to much trouble. Our room was newly fitted out and spotlessly clean. All we need during our stay was at hand. The hotel is a busy place with a lovely atmosphere. A good location, to visit all the museums in the area.,good food served just a short walking distance away, then you can return for a drink or two before climbing a wonderful staircase to bed. A freshly cooked breakfast of your choice will be served to you in the morning accompanied with a friendly chat with Liz and Peter your hosts. We were sad to leave but we will returning in August. Can't wait. Thank you Liz and Peter

Room Tip: Go inside ....and ask and look. You will be made welcome .
