We loved our accommodation at the Cortijo Prado Toro! The cortijo is located off the main road, bordering on a natural park, so the surroundings are simply beautiful. We stayed in the flat called El Estudio, which was very spacious and nicely decorated with beautiful wooden furniture in Al-Andalus style. It also had a small terrace with beautiful views of the mountains. Ludwig, the owner, was very friendly and hospitable. He lent us a guide book of walking tours in the area, and gave us excellent suggestions of what to visit and where to eat. We would highly recommend spending a few days at the Cortijo Prado Toro before visiting Granada!

Can't fault this place. The apartments are like mini cottages with log fires (the logs are extra). We were there in April and although we didn't need the fire as the apartment was heated, it was a lovely addition. Our apartment was the attic one and had an amazing terrace with wonderful views. Ludwig was helpful, giving us lots of walking info. There are lots of walks to the nearby villages or you can drive in 10 mins (the road is mostly unpaved but not a problem, just keep on the gas!) This place is perfect for people who like walking and nature. The kitchen gives you the freedom to cook or you can venture out and try the local restaurants. Definitely recommended.

Having just spent five days at Cortijo Prado Toro I cannot recommend it highly enough. The location is beautiful and the views from the Cortijo are amazing, it is the perfect place to unwind. The owner, Ludwig, was always on hand to offer advice on the local area, but was never intrusive - a perfect balance. The attic apartment (one of 5 available) was decorated in the local Alpujarra style with a fantastic terrace offering views across the valley.

There are lovely walks to do in the immediate area, and the villages of Bubion, Capileira and Pampaneira are all within easy reach. We can only say positive things and will definitely return!

Quiet location, large comfortable apartment with excellent views, high in the mountains above Pitres and Capileira. Friendly enthusiastic and knowledgeable owner Ludet, speaks English, Spanish German. Great walks from back door. Also stayed 3 nights in Ludet's Bubion village house, also quiet and comfortable with views to drink in, but a few mins walk from bars/restaurants. Trevor and Jane

Buried out of sight on a hillside site that gives instant access to perfect walks over the tops to welcoming whitewashed villages, Cortijo Prado Toro is a very special place to stay in a still unspoilt region of age-old irrigation channels and horse chestnut forests. Neither of us are mountaineers and precipices bring out vertigo in one of us, so it is good to report that this was the ideal location for gaining the experience of mountain air, birds of prey (including black kites during our stay), and a completely enveloping quiet, without the need for ropes!
The apartment and the grounds were ideal in the sunny but cool October mornings, with fabulous views across the valley and clean comfortable spacious rooms. And the star of the show is Ludet (Ludwig) with his fund of stories (we'll not quickly forget his description of the owls that used to fall asleep on the chimney pots and ended up as surprise guests in the rooms below until Ludet created his own design of chimney protection), and his concern to gently ensure that guests are always well-informed, safe and happy. Brilliant host, great place to stay, wonderful quirky history-steeped area.

What a wonderful experience. So peaceful. A perfect spot in the middle of the Sierra Nevada's.
The owner was so helpful, the apartment was cleaner then my mother's house, hard to do. The views just breathtaking, and so so quiet! . The property was just beautiful and for me I really hope to return there as a vacation to just rest and relax.

Room Tip: We were there only 4 days. Was just not long enough.

We are just back from a week staying at Prodo Toro with our two sons (9 and 5). We have only praise and can truly say it’s the most beautiful and welcoming home. El Taller itself was extremely comfortable and well equipped, the grounds beautiful and inviting and the scenery and views uplifting and relaxing.

Ludet is the most welcoming and hospitable host. Directing us to lovely walks, local information, lending us warm clothes ( yes – we weren't quite prepared for the night temperatures or for climbing Mulhacen) and helpful in absolutely every way possible. His advice led us to completely fall in love with the Taha area as we discovered its beauty and people on our many walks.

Gracias for a wonderful stay. We would love to come back again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Cortijo Prado Toro is situated in the Natural Park of the Alpujarras , on the southern slopes of the National Park of the Sierra Nevada, Spains highest and most dramatic mountain range in the province of Granada. The historic white villages of "La Taha" are within easy reach. The main town of the Taha, Pitres, is less than 10 min away by car. The Cortijo (country house) faces south, towards the Mediterranean, at an altitude of 1.450M, opening up breathtaking views of unspoiled natural countryside. On clear days even extending to the Rif mountains of North Africa. Cortijo Prado Toro is a delightful quiet place set amidst stunning country side. Hidden courtyards and patios provide sanctuaries of shade and greenery, whilst secluded terraced corners offer privacy in the sun. Weeping branches of mature willow trees form bowers of tranquility, and the gentle murmer of a spring or fountain never seems far away. Only birdsong or the muted clanging of distant goat bells is likely to disturb the silence of this quiet mountain retreat. The architecture of the buildings, designed and restaured with the help of "Donald Gray", an authority in traditional Andalusian architecture, is in the traditional Alpujarran style with much care taken on the detail. The individually designed and decorated apartments, all separated from eachother to provide absolute privacy , are all furnished to a high standard and combine simplicity and luxury with elegance of another era. ... more   less
