We are very fortunate to have friends who live one hill over from Madonna in the small commune of Cessole. Every time we visit them, this trip included, we ensure we make at least one visit to Madonna .
This time we chose dinner, whereas other times it has been for traditional Sunday pranzo
I think what appeals to me most about Madonna is their honest desire to serve traditional piemontese dishes, with the best local ingredients available. The angolotti a plin ( served on a white linen napkin) all made by hand, is one of the many remarkable, simple dishes presented at this warm and welcoming establishment
The family that runs Madonna are genuinely the nicest people and it is a pleasure to be around them.
if you are visiting Cessole or the surrounding areas, take the opportunity to venture " up the hill" and enjoy this beautiful restaurant and all its delights, you wont be dissapointed.

we came from Milan to eat in this tipical "trattoria piemontese". The area is beautiful in this season. Green, red, orange foliage everywhere and vineyards everywhere. We had a five starters sample menu which was composed by an excellent seasonal salad, tartare (made to order and with tho different seasoning which was my favourite dish), a very tasty cotechino with fonduta, peppers with bagnacauda and a thistle cake which was simply great. As first course we had 'ravioli del plin' which are a must in this area and they are served on a linen napkin (no plate) as people did time and time ago. It was perfect. Unfortunately we were done so we couldn't even imagine to order a secound course, so we skipped straight to the desserts. A bunet and a cream and pear with chocolate cake.
They also have a great selection of local cheese and wines and all the portions were absolutely generous.
The service was very kind and attentive but a bit too slow, and i guess it was due to the fact that it was a sunday during holidays and the place was full. 34 euros each is a great deal for what we had (with a 20 euro bottle of local red wine included).

My third visit to the restaurant, and it's good as ever.
They offer 5 antipasti, where you get to taste the best of Piemonte.
For the primi piatti (pasta), their homemade Agnolotti (ravioli) is perfect and a must. As a curiosity, they even serve it without any sauce on a white napkin.
For the second piatti (meat), I had the deer. It was extremely delicious, and had probably been cooking all day. It literally fell apart...
A delicious nocciola (hazelnut) cake and an espresso topped the deal.
The prize: less than half of what I paid in Rome for a meal not even as delicious.
