We arrived at the Sun Hotel on Friday night, the staff were really friendly and we were made to feel at home straight away. We stayed in the King room which was beautiful. It was very clean and everything had been thought of. We had our evening meal which was lovely and the service was really good. The breakfast there next day was also lovely (we had full English each day). Over all, I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing place to stay and fantastic food. We'll definitely be back!!!

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Sun Hotel, we were made to feel very welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. The staff were cheerful and friendly at all times, and the service given was very good.
The breakfast each day was freshly cooked with very good ingredients, but a little lacking in alternatives,eg. there was no yoghurt or fruit, despite these been included on the menu in the rooms, and the room menus differed from the menus on the breakfast table.
Evening meals were again of a high standard, freshly made and cooked, and pleasantly served.
The rooms were adequate, though a little small, with a very powerful shower which was very welcome at the end of a tiring day.Although the tea and coffee was replenished daily, there were only biscuits on the day of arrival, disappointing on returning from a days walk when you are looking forward to a relaxed coffee and biscuits to "put you on" until the evening meal.
The worst aspect of the room for us was the noise.
We occupied a room at the front of the hotel, and the road noise was exceptionally disturbing, added to the sounds coming up from the bar below, it made sleep impossible till the early hours of the morning.
We have visited the Lake District countless times over the years, and this is the first time we have stayed in a pub, we will not be repeating the experience. Maybe it's just not our scene.
We like a peaceful nights rest, and didn't get it here.
At the price we paid we definitely expected more.
As stated earlier the hosts, staff, and food couldn't be faulted, but the location leaves a lot to be desired.

Room Tip: I would assume that rooms at the back would not suffer from road noise so much, and 2nd floor rooms...

Thank you for your recent feedback. I am so pleased to read that you were happy with the overall service you received. It is certainly what we aim to achieve and I am glad that this was apparent during your stay.

I appreciate your comment regarding our homemade shortbread biscuits made on the premises, going forward I have asked for these to be replenished on a daily basis.

I am sorry that your stay was disturbed by residual noise from the bar. We are quite open about the fact that we operate 'Pub' trading hours which means last orders on a weekend is 11.25. Customers do not occupy the bar after Midnight. Therefore it is unfair to suggest there is noise until the 'early hours' from the bar.

It is clear from 'Google maps' that we are located on the A591 between Windermere and Ambleside, like any A-road this carries a variable amount of traffic during the day. People choose to stay at The Sun Hotel for our superb location and proximity to all parts of the Lake District, any future residents wishing to stay in a room to the rear of the building can request this at the time of booking, this however will be subject to availability.

I would urge anyone considering staying at the Sun to view our website. The Sun is a traditional inn, popular with locals and tourists. Our focus is to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, without compromising on quality or service.

Thank you Sam & Phil for a really lovely weekend. This was a much needed break for us but taking our 2 dogs to stay in a hotel for the first time I was a little nervous. Hotels say they are dog friendly but would they be when we turned up with 2 boisterous Labradors? We walked through the door and the dogs were greeted with fuss and biscuits and we were given a very warm welcome too. Our room was beautiful, not the usual "tired" rooms allocated to those with dogs and the shower was brilliant. The room was very spacious and alongside the usual tea & coffee was a plate of homemade shortbread for us and a plate of dog biscuits for our furry friends. The food was fantastic - we had the fish and chips on Friday evening, beautifully light batter with perfectly cooked fish, Saturday evening saw us tackle the homemade steak pie, I am not a "pie" person as they usually disappoint but this is the best pie I have tasted. Be warned though, you will not eat a pudding afterwards. Breakfasts are very hearty and freshly cooked and we loved the food so much we actually came back from our walk to have lunch there on Saturday. We needed advice on a suitable walk to take and Sam took the time in between serving breakfast to draw us a map. We didn't feel as though we were staying a hotel, we felt as though we had gone to stay with friends for the weekend. Nothing is too much trouble here and Sam & Phil have got the balance just right, the atmosphere is very relaxed and informal but the service is still professional. We will be back very soon.

We stayed for only one night during a short break away and enjoyed our time at the Sun Inn. The pub and restaurant is attractive and full of character. The rooms were more than adequate, clean and comfortable with a nice modern bathroom and good power shower.
Our evening meal was very tasty and I thoroughly recommend the Fish Pie-only wish I'd left room for dessert!! There was plenty of choice on the breakfast menu and this set us up for the rest of the day. The management were very pleasant and helpful.
Being reasonably local I will look forward to a repeat visit in the coming months to try out more of the new menu.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quieter

We had the fish and chips and home made burger. The fish was a whale and very tasty. The pub itself is attractive and there was a warm wood burning stove in the corner. The pub is dog friendly which allowed our little Westie to enjoy the food too!

We have just returned from a fabulous two night New Year break at the Sun Hotel. The hosts, Samantha and Phil and all of the staff make you feel very welcome and go out of their way to make sure you have a great time. Our rooms were stylish, spacious, warm and spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and lovely fluffy towels. The food is delicious and beautifully presented - compliments to the chef! The New Year package was extremely good value and the 6 course New Years Eve dinner was wonderful, complimented by excellent service and a superb atmosphere. Many thanks to you all for a great time! Highly recommended.
