Had reached the place at 12 PM and checked in the Honeymoon Cottage which is away from the rest of the cottages. The view from this cottage is very nice as they have a big windows which gives a clear view of the clouds, mountains and the blue/ white sky. They also have a good collection of books in room itself. The room was very nicely done with every thing in sync with the theme of the room i.e. Blue color. Food is also tasty and healthy as it should be. Freshly prepared by Mr. Ram Ji the cook and happily served by his family to your table in lawns or at your room. There is also a sit out just above the kitchen where we enjoyed the view from height when it was raining heavily.

Cool and silent place, bit far away from the proper city to avoid the rush and maddening crowd.

Sincere thanks to the young energetic personality Mr. Munish and his team for making our stay a comfortable one.

Room Tip: Honeymoon Cottage is best for couples as it has a good views.

Had the most wonderful and relaxing vacation over a span of four days! Our "super luxury" cottage was huge and very well done up and the pictures on the website don't do justice to it. The attached bathroom is the size of a bedroom back home! Food was home-cooked, lovingly served by Ramji and his sweet family. The place is super quiet and tucked in the nook of a mountain and can't be seen from the road. Renuka lake is a nice clean lake with very few hawkers and people to bother and will love to walk around it next time. Manish, the owner was very sweet to offer us a ride to the lake and we stopped on the way to throw a few pebbles in the rather shallow river. Rest of the time we ate, watched movies and sat and absorbed the silence the place offered and in short didn't feel like going back home! Its a treasure and the staff is great and extremely helpful and the place is seen to be believed! Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at writers hill in May 2012 for 2 nights and this is what I have to say about the place.

Location-
Its built on a terraced mountain so thats pretty cool. Secluded, so its not like going to one of those overly crowded hill stations like Shimla etc... perfect for a weekend getaway for couples if you want to take a break from the city madness.
About two and a half hours from Chandigarh and the drive is quite nice if you dont mind mountainous roads.

Cottages-
There are three concrete cottages and one tented cottage. All have air-conditioning so dont worry about the scorching summers. Extremely spacious rooms and bathrooms. Cottages are perfect. I think the management is going to add some more cottages this year.

Food and Service-
The limited staff will bend over backwards for you. And this includes the manager Ranu who treats you like a guest in his own house. The food is extremely homestyle and can be prepared as per the guests wishes.

Overall-
This is not the place you compare to Goa London or Vegas for a holiday destination. You come here for some quiet me or us time to enjoy the serenity a place like this has to offer. Surely not for the Hilton Experience!!
As the title suggests, during your stay at the writers hill you are made to feel that you own your very own exclusive cottage in the mountains. I can't speak for anyone else but for me thats everything I could ask for.

If you are a nature person, surely think about Writers Hill. The drive upto the resort is beautiful and the walk upto your cottage is even more breathtaking. Its in the lap of nature which is what we fell in love with. We went in May of 2012 hoping to get away from the blistering Delhi heat. It wasn't as cool as we expected, but with the a/c in our cottage it was fine. The resort is ideal for couples and families alike,we were a group of friends and we thoroughly enjoyed the serenity and grandeur of the mountains. The view from the blue cottage is phenomenal with a huge glass window overlooking the mountains, perfect for reading your book or listening to some soft music. This place is surely for people who want to cut away from the daily city madness and enjoy some tranquil quiet time in these Himachal hills. For the food, it was prepared with utmost love and care and it tasted authentic too. The owner is very polite and would go outthe extra mile to make your stay comfortable. Also, you must take a drive down to Renuka lake and feed the gigantic turtles and fish. It is an amazing experience. Great relaxing holiday.

The rooms were decent and the staff is friendly. The place clearly needs more staff as the service was poor and no one came to clean our room on any of the days.
Also, there is not much to do and the weather is very very hot. Considering that, the place is very overpriced and not worth it.

i truly believe that should you decide to book a stay in this kind of resort, you should be prepared to the absolute isolation from the world you know and are used to. i wish we had the opportunity to stay in this kind of resort more often. in the writer's hill the staff tried their best to make our stay comfortable and not boring. really nice and friendly people. we felt like at home, and this was so important, considering the remote location of the place. get ready to unwind and do absolutely nothing but hiking and reading. we barely met the neighbor guests of the hotel.

the booking process was rather lengthy though. we contacted the resort through email, and beware that it can take a bit longer for them to respond, but this is just the matter of organization. overall we were well taken care of.
