very nice scenery. Nice place to chat with your friends and family. Good for kids too. Nice views. Non existent service though. Staff was very eager to serve but may be simply overwhelmed by the volume

We went to West Sikkim soon after our marriage and chose to plan our trip in offbeat locations. And this place was worth every penny. Its set inside a tea garden, and its serene location is ideal to enjoy the mighty Himalayas in most leisurely manner possible. Its untouched by pollution, Car horns and chaos. Its greenery and gardens are breathtaking in a natural way, but lacks proper maintenance.
The property itself is cozy, clean and comfy. There are two sets of rooms - Kanchenjunga facing and Tea garden facing. Both offer good views of the scenic landscape according to your choice. We preferred Kanchenjunga ones. And there are absolutely no choice of hotels nearby. Staffs are welcoming, accommodating and warm. However, they can't do much about the lack of amenities. In a location that remote, you can't actually expect facilities of a city based property. Toiletries provided were also cheap and not replenished. Food you have to order much early, dinner etc. has to be ordered before evening to that they can get the ingredients from local village. Most of the dishes mentioned in menu were not available. And its better to stick to basic popular dishes. When we visited, there was not dedicated cook and a kid was managing the kitchen. Food was decent at the most.
Staff were also helpful in arrangements for car booking and sightseeing as we found from a fellow traveler. However, they charge bit extra than normal rates (given that tourists will not have any other option)
Chances are, if you love mountains and lush green, its location will make up for everything. But if you are looking for a great property with lot of indoor stuff, this might be a bit disappointing.

Room Tip: Choose Kanchenjunga facing ones.

the hotel is at one of the most picturesque locations in sikkim. surrounded by lush green tea gardens, it's standing tall in front of the mighty kanchendzonga range of the himalayas. very serene and a perfect place to spend 2-3 days away from maddening crowds of big cities.

we visited during the last weekend of march 2013. we booked our stay well in advance (2 months before) for 3 deluxe royal rooms. booking process went well. some discount were there.

our arrival was delayed by 5 hours due to train delay. we kept calling the resort that we would be late and honor our bookings. they assured that booking is good and rooms would be ready.

once we arrived, we found rooms were not ready at all. rooms were not cleaned and they started cleaning them in front of us. one of the rooms had bathroom roof open! after repeated requests, they closed the roof hood with a piece of wooden block.

next, we faced several issues during our stay for next 2 days:

1. geyser not working in one of the rooms.
2. tv not working in all the rooms.
3. telephone not working in all the rooms. one needs to go to reception at ground floor from second floor all the way to ask for any service.
4. even after going downstairs several times, no one would provide the service. anything would take at least 30-40mins to arrive at your room.
5. food was very mediocre.

so, bottomline is - the place is really exotic with stunning view all around, but be prepared to face bad service from day 1. inquire in detail and then book your stay with them.

Cherry resort is undoubtedly the best worst managed hotel in the world. Well, what do I mean by that statement. It has a heavenly location, almost too good to believe, nestled in the midst of Temi tea garden, it has the stuff romantic novels are made of. But as you set foot on it, all your delusions of romance or comfort or whatever else you are looking for when on a holiday will vaporise in a minute. First of all, don't go by the 'resort' tag, this is cherry yatri nivas, owned by the Sikkim tourism and run on lease by a private player who don't know the first meaning of the word hospitality. It is huge, badly managed, staff picked up on casual basis from the villages around. No semblance of any service what so ever. Geysers non functional, intercom non functional, bare room. It's just shockingly bad. It took us about 2 hours to get a room after we reached from a back breaking ride from Kalimpong. There are about 15 or 20 untrained boys there, none of them know anything about service. Dining room is atrocious, table mats not cleaned from last season. We booked the place for 2 nights after looking at it on the Internet, but had to ask for cancellation of the second night, as we just couldn't stand it anymore, when we has to carry our own cup of tea in the morning to our room. The place was overflowing with complaining tourists, most were very dissatisfied and loud Bengalis. We beat a hasty retreat to Gangtok, and it was my endeavour to write this review ASAP so that others are warned. TAKE MY ADVICE. DON'T GO THERE.

Room Tip: The ground floor is marble floor and gets extremely cold

Awesome view, very good property but u don't have many choices for food. I can say food quality is not good. The location, view and staff make up for the food though. Recommended for getaways once in a while.

We visited Cherry Resort in Temi Tea Garden on 20th and 21st Dec 2012 for two nights. We had booked two deluxe rooms. When we checked in we were told by Mr. Bikram Pariyar, Manager, that room no. 103 and 105 has been booked for us. When we went to the room, we found that room no. 103 had two single beds and room no. 105 had one double bed. Since I was travelling with my spouse and six year old daughter, I told the manager to give me a room with a double bed. The manager said that all rooms are booked from the next day and he cannot shift me to another room. He said he can join the two single beds to make it one bed. We did not like the idea as joining two beds will not be comfortable when one is sleeping on it. The toilet also had a nasty smell. We then requested the manager if he can put a double bed mattress on the bed, so that the joined bed will not be uncomfortable. Hotel Manager agreed and he sent his staff to bring a double bed mattress. However, the mattress size was smaller than the two single joined beds. Within couple of minutes Mr. Pariyar came and said that he is allocating room no. 108 as someone has just cancelled his booking. He said that "Madam, you are lucky to get a double bedded room because one of the guest has cancelled his booking just now". We again shifted from room no. 103 to room no. 108. In the meanwhile room no. 105 which was booked for my in-laws had problem with the toilet latch. It was not closing. We called the manager and told that the toilet door cannot be closed. Manager explained that since it is too cold may be because of that the lock has got contracted. He then tried to lock the toilet door from outside. Suddenly we found that the toilet door had got locked but it could not be opened. He again called his staff. Two people came and tried to open the door with Swiss Knife. After a lot of struggle they could not open the door. Now the Manager sent a small boy through the service vent into the toilet and asked him to open the door from inside. The young boy went inside the toilet through the vent. He tried to open the door from inside. The door could not be opened and he got locked inside. At the end the hotel staff broke open the door. Now the door latch was open. One of the staff said that earlier also the latch had problem but he was able to open the door. The toilet door can be locked from inside and hotel did not have a key. After all these drama, we finally took rest in the room. For the next two days, we had to use the toilet without locking it from inside. It was very uncomfortable for someone who was using the toilet as the door could not be locked from inside.

We found that Cherry Resort is a beautiful property situated in the midst of Temi Tea Garden. However, it is not professionally managed. At the time of checking in at the hotel, we were told that all rooms are sold. However, when we checked out on 22nd Dec 2012 at 2.00pm, we found that in the ground floor, out of 8 rooms only 2 rooms were occupied. Both the rooms were booked by us. However, at the time of checking in Manager was not willing to shift us to a double bedded room.

There was no housekeeping service We had stayed for 2 nights in Cherry Resort. Not a single house keeping staff came to our room to clean it. No sweeping, mopping of the rooms were done. Waste bin and toilets were not cleaned. When we told the manager, he said that why we did not call the housekeeping staff to clean the room. We saw some ladies in the hotel. They seemed to be the housekeeping staff but most of them were sitting in the hotel lobby watching television.

There is no tea/coffee making machine in the room. We did not get hot water before 7.30 AM on both days. In fact on 21st Dec morning, I went around looking for staff but found that the restaurant was closed. No staff was available. Later I was told that since the kitchen staff had slept late at night as some guests had arrived late, they could not get up in the morning. In Sikkim no one will drive at night to check in at the hotel at late night. We went to Temi in December when it was freezing temperature. If an electric kettle was available in the room we could have prepared our own tea in the morning. Now a days electric kettle, few tea bags/coffee satches, dairy whitener and sugar sachets are provided in all category of hotels.

Only one waiter was good. Tejbahadur was the only person who had a smiling face and served us with a smile. The other persons had grumpy face. Cook Kunal is a very good cook. He cooked delicious food for us. However, variety was missing. We had to rely on whatever local vegetables were available.

I have given our feedback to Mr. Norbu Bhutia (who is running the property on lease) for further improvement.

Ovalall we enjoyed our trip in Temi Tea Estate. It will be enjoyed by nature lovers. People who love to trek. We walked down till Temi Bazar and again returned back to the resort by walking. There are two tea shops in Temi Tea Garden. The one above the Cherry Resort is not good. They reuse the same boiled tea leaves to make tea. The one below the resort is good. They made lovely Temi tea for us. Since we take tea without milk and sugar, the lady prepared tea as per our requirement. The view is also good from inside the shop. Overall we had enjoyable stay at Cherry Resort.

Few points of improvement for management who is running Cherry Resort.
1. Keep a professional Manager, who has idea about hospitality business
2. Housekeeping staff should clean the room daily
3. Waiters should remove the tea cups from the room after they serve tea/coffee and should not be reminded frequently to clean the room
4. Variety of vegetarian food should be available. The hotel only had beans, cauliflower, squash ( a local vegetable)
5. Electric kettle alongwith tea bags, coffee satches, milk whitener and sugar sachet should be provided in all rooms

Room Tip: All rooms are good. We could not see the peaks due to cloud.

This resort is to be recommended mainly for its heavenly location with the lush green tea-garden in front, back-dropped by the Eastern Himalayas and framed with Cherry-blossom trees.
The super-deluxe room has a private balcony overlooking the garden. The room is very big, however minimalistic as far as furnitures are concerned. The floor is NOT carpetted, which posed a serious trouble. Heater is to be got on demand. Bathroom is however good.
