We stayed in a Royal Suite room and were delighted with the size, decor and view, which was stunning. Mamora Bay was idyllic and perfect for water sports. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Plenty of good scenic walks. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Cannot praise the hotel enough.

Having booked the "royal suite" for a relaxing week with my wife (then 21 weeks pregnant) we were disappointed to continually meet unhelpful & generally gruff members of staff. That is not to say all staff were of this ilk, some were full of Caribbean charm & hospitality. The room was lovely & well positioned within the large site. Beaches on the Atlantic side proved too windy to be enjoyed at this time of year, but Mamora bay was much better.

Virgin holidays proved inept at organising the flights. We were assured seats together so my wife could sleep on my shoulder. Outbound we were one row apart & inbound after alot of anguish, up until the last minute, we finally obtained seats next to one another. This was plainly linked to Virgin overselling places on the flight by at least 12!!

We would not use Virgin holidays again for this reason.

If looking for some winter sun, perhaps try Barbados - the people are friendlier and there's lots more to do!

I travelled with my fiancee and his parents as a last big holiday before our baby arrives in Feb. Upon arrival we wer upgraded to a two bedroom villa which was fantastic!! The beaches are lovely, the staff are friendly and there are numerous pools although the 3 tier pool was closed for refurb........ The food is delicious and there is a wide varitey of choice, the evening meals at the Rainbow restaurant were mainly a la carte which was a nice change to buffet. I would say that the service in Docksider was very slow and the standard of food was not as good as the Rainbow restaurant.
Although I was not drinking alcohol I was told that the cocktails etc were yummy especially the rum punch!!! There is a lot of variety of non alcoholic drinks which was good.
My only negative points would be the lack of varied entertainment in the evening, Coco's bar remained closed in the evenings during our stay and there is no where to shower on your last day unless you want to pay $25 which I thought was a ripoff...........
Overall this was a excellent hotel and we will definitely go back when baby is born :-)

This is a wonderful choice for a vacation. The weather was perfect for the 10 days we were there. We stayed in a villa on all inclusive. The beds were very comfortable and it was lovely having a sitting room to chill out in. There was a good choice of food to suit most palates. I must give a special mention to the Eggs Benedict at breakfast and the Goat Curry on one of the buffets. All the staff were polite and friendly and the other guests were pleasant people to be on holiday with. There were so many beautiful views around the resort. We really enjoyed sailing the Hobie Cats and the sail boards and the watersports team were really helpful. Both of the beaches were lovely powder sand. If you are a scuba diver the Mamora Bay Divers are really good and they are on site so the boat goes straight from the resort. Whilst we had a wonderful time and we rate the resort highly there are a few small points for improvement. Cocos restaurant was closed for dinner the whole of our stay, two nights only The Docksider was open for a buffet unless you paid the extra to go to Piccolo Mondo. Some people had complimentary meals at Piccolo Mondo but we weren't offered one. The service in the Docksider was very slow. I don't mind waiting for food to be freshly cooked but they took a long time taking orders. The Jacaranda Bar was dated and worn which was not in keeping with the rest of the resort. The Mamora pool was closed for refurbishment. The tennis courts are quite worn with one closed. This is not the part of the island with turquoise sea and there is quite a lot of seaweed growing in the sea on Coco's beach. Some of the sunbeds were quite saggy and should have been replaced. Soft drinks were not brand names and weren't great. The tap water was meant to be drinkable but it tasted odd. Bottled water in the shop was $3 for 2 litres. We hired a car and went to some really beautiful beaches where there were no hotels. It is interesting to visit St Johns and also Nelson's Dockyard. I would recommend lunch out at Catherine's Cafe in English Harbour, it is in a beautiful setting with amazing French cuisine. The trip Virgin Ahoy was quite a crowded boat. It was lovely to see the whole island from the sea but there must be a better way. The rum punches they serve on board are quite strong and did affect some unsuspecting people. Shirley Heights is good if you want to see a band of Steel Pan players, try to go on a Sunday when the skies are clear for a good sunset. Taxis are expensive. As I said these are small points which maybe the management will read but none of them would stop us from returning and we all really loved St James.

The hotel is so clean and comfortable, staff are very helpful & friendly, food is lovely & lots of name brand drinks-lots of choice at 3 restaurants, many pools and 2 beaches to choose from. So peaceful and chilled out. Definitely worth a visit. We will be back soon. One couple we met have visited 16 times!

This hotel is perfect for everyone from honeymooners to families with small children. We have been quite a few times before and it gets better each time. There have been many improvements in recent years. The kids club staff are very good and there are a lot of activities that children can do. There is a wide range of food so there is something for all food tastes e.g. English, local, Italian cuisine. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is ever too much for them to do. We have stayed in both the hotel rooms and the villas. It is worth upgrading to the villas when you stay if possible as it is like going from home to home and the views are fantastic. While there make sure you check out Shirley Heights on a Sunday night, it is an amazing place to check out the views at sunset and there is traditional and more modern Calypso music being played.

Honestly, our stay at the St. James Club was the most incredible vacation of our lives.

The St. James Club exceeded any and all expectations in every way. We swam and snorkeled every day, our room was fantastic with an outstanding view just yards from the ocean. Every night, we seemed to magically get the best seat at each restaurant (the friends we made were insanely jealous!). My husband learned to sail in that dream of a harbor (a dream of his). Every night at sunset, we'd walk to a different bar, get ourselves the island staple, a rum punch, and walk to one of the many beautiful spots seemingly created just for us to watch the sunset.

Literally, every day we set out loud how truly amazing it was... we walked the entire peninsula, discovering all sorts of little secret spots, just stunned by the thoughtful layout of each and every square foot.

We couldn't possibly have imagined a more spectacular place and we will be grateful to the St. James Club always. Our trip changed our lives. We vowed to go back every year.

We can't wait to visit again!
