On arrival to this hotel we were told that we weren't in the room that we booked much to our amazement....
We had booked beachfront which turned out to be something that would be more suited at a pontins/butlins site as looked very outdated plus were on the Atlantic side which was very breezy.....

However we got upgraded to a beachfront villa on the mamora side which was amazing, walk across the patio down a few steps an we were on the beach whi h was more calmer with a gentle breeze an more child friendly.

Water sports were very good along wiv the beach bar,

Dockside restaurant was lovely however it gets very busy from 7pm onwards

Cocos was very nice also however menu very ltd for evening meal an doesnt change. Breakfast wide variety an kept covered.

Rainbow restaurant we only went there twice and on both occasions food was only luke warm as not fully covered

There are some nice members of staff there who are very pleasant however there are some that think its an effort to acknowledge you and are rude...

Overall had a lovely holiday but theres alot of room for improvement all over this hotel complex....

Although the resort is lovely the accommodations for RCI time share guests is deplorable. You are give the oldest rooms in dire need of renovation. It is almost impossible to get an upgrade. We were first given a room with 2 double beds that was shabby at best. We agreed to stay in that room 1 night until a room with a king size bed became available. The AC hovered between 78 and 77 and the room was stifling. There was no screen on the terrace door so we could not open to get fresh air. The next room was in better shape, however, when the room above us flooded and water dripped into our room from the ceiling, the evening manager expected us to remain in that room. He offered to put towels on the wet floor. Again AC hooved between 77-78. It was the reception staff that made the room change for us...NOT THE MANAGER.
The halls on the first floor ( time share units) are disgusting. The tiles are chipped and broken, the walls are cracked and the baseboards are chipped and dirty. The 2ed and 3rd floors in the same building house "paying" guests. The furniture is nicer and the hallways are brighter and cleaner. Oh yes, the mattresses are thin and old...backaches the entire week.
If you are not on a time share I would recommend this resort...otherwise STAY AWAY!!!!

Room Tip: You will not be upgraded if you are with RCI.

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay at The St. James's Club. We appreciate our guests taking the time to share their experiences with us as we strive to always improve our guests' experience.

We, unfortunately, do not agree with this recap of events. The rooms originally booked have all new furniture. Once the problem arose for these guests they were immediately relocated to a Royal Suite (highest room category) complimentary.

The St. James's Club hosts hundreds of happy guests each week and the vast majority trul y enjoy the accommodations, dining options, activities and our very hospitable and gracious staff.

We do hope that when you consider a sun-filled memorable Caribbean vacation that we at the St. James's Club may host you.

10 of us have just returned from a lovely 12 night stay for a wedding. Really beautiful beaches and location, clean and very well kept grounds. The wedding was perfect. Rooms are a bit dated but well maintained. Water sports on Mamora beach were excellent.
Food was just ok, pay the extra $35 for Piccolo which was great but I expected that quality without paying the extra!
Staff are very hit and miss, some were down right rude and literally had an attitude when having to serve you, the reception staff don't appear to be able or bothered to assist you at all, why is that?! This I'm afraid let down the resort and the few really good staff members like Alfred who delivers drinks on the beaches, Shirley and Rogers in the main bar areas. The beach bar staff were the worst and killed any type of atmosphere anyone created.
We enjoyed our stay and it really was a beautiful place but I can't say I'd rush to go back to this resort again.

This was our second visit to this resort and of course this provides a opportunity to compare with the previous visit. It is still our best Caribbean experience! I dont think we can say we have ever had a perfect experience, and I am sure by strict definition we never will. However this is very close. The grounds are maintained extremely well and remember this is a 110 acre resort, so no small feat! We have stayed in the Royal Suites on both occasions and as always are cleaned to high standard and are very comfortable and spacious.
Even though it is just our second visit, it was so nice to be remembered by numerous staff members and welcomed back. The staff of St.James Club are the special asset of this resort ! We have always had good experiences with our interactions with the staff.

Last year I rated St.James Club a 5, however this year we noticed a drop in the quality of food and it also appears they are limiting the number of seatings in the Rainbow Garden and Piccolo Mondo. This appears to be a effort to steer people to the buffet at the Docksider . The Docksider does provide a quite good buffet , however with the increased volume of guests it does feel as though you are being rushed. We are all on holiday and we feel enough of that at home. The Rainbow Garden is a much more relaxed atmosphere and the meal options and quality is noticable superior.

Hopefully these comments are read by the management team, I have noticed a response is only provided when a rating of 3 or less is provided...

Profit margins are certainly important, however first time guests will not be enchanted with St.James club as we were and repeat guests may investigate other options in the Caribbean.

We certainly love the St. James Club and the people who provide the great service and warmth to the guests, but they can only work with the tools provided.

We stayed Feb 9 to 23rd.

Room Tip: Royal suites if you are looking for the quieter area of the resort

We have just come back from a 9 day stay at St James Club Antigua. As with most people, we read the reviews prior to our holiday and were concerned that we had made the wrong choice.
However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Ok, things weren't always perfect but where in the world is? The location is beautiful, the rooms were clean, the gardens well kept and the staff were very polite.

The water sports available were good fun- we went kayaking most days, sailing (both at no additional charge ) and fishing (for a small fee). We played table tennis, tennis and used the cinema which was empty most evenings.

We enjoyed sun bathing on Memora bay and watching the large brown pelicans diving for fish. We also saw humming birds, turtles and mongoose.
We hired a car for a day, which was well worth doing as we had booked a visit to the Zip line and rope challenge centre. We have never tried ziplines before but completed the 13 lines and 9 challenges. Was great fun and would certainly recommend. Used the rest of the day to look around the Island in the hire car and visited other beaches- Turners beach was stunning.
Another highlight was the sunday night shindig at Shirley Hights. Reggae and steel bands playing plus bbq, bar and watching sun go down, spectacular.
We were staying in the Reef rooms at St James, which suited us as it was so quiet, but close to reception and Rainbow restaurant.
With regard to the restaurants, its fair to say that the Al a carte menus provide a better standard of food than the buffets. For the most part however, we chose to use the buffets because they were perfectly adequate and very convenient. As a vegetarian, I had less choice but there is a specialised vegetarian menu available if you ask at reception.
Also, having booked this holiday to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary, it was a nice touch when a complimentary bottle of champagne arrived in our room part way through our stay. We had read reports that some staff were rude and unhelpful but can honestly say we never experienced this and everybody was helpful and willing to please. For the record, we weren't big tippers but this didn't affect how we were treated. We selectively tipped at the end of our stay and this was appreciated

All in all, the St James Club in Antigua is more than capable of providing you with a wonderful holiday experience. Would we return? Yes.

We took 15 members of our family here for a week in February. We all had a wonderful time with something to suit everyone. Our ages varied from 4 to 81. The family members who loved diving and water sports had a fab time as did the beach lovers and everything in between for the rest. We enjoyed lovely family meals at either Rainbow Garden or Docksiders every evening. There were choices of food for all tastes of good quality. The staff were pretty good but there was the odd one who was a little grumpy. Rooms were Excellent. It is well run in every way. The wifi was a bit hit and miss . You could get a bit of a signal in the reception area or pay to have it in the room which could be good but sometimes didn't work at all. Overall very good holiday.

Great assortment of apartments and villas to sort all sizes of party's .
Two beaches, one on the more exposed windy side and the other into the very secluded bay with plenty of loungers and shade. Water sports excellent and well organised.4 restaurants of varied qualities and selection. The Dockside offers the most varied menu, but is a buffet, range changes daily.
Negatives are, useless Wifi, speed non existent, free in lobby but charged in your room IF you can get a signal.
The other is the lack of atmosphere at the bars, with staff efficient but bored and uninterested.
