We stayed at St. James Club for one week. The rooms were clean and well appointed. It seems all the rooms have some view of the water. We took the all inclusive plan since this resort is isolated from the rest of the island and not easy to go out and the prices for ordering a la cart are too high. They don't ptovide bottled water and have their own purification system. It is safe to drink water served from the bars and restaurants but not recommended to drink the tap water from your room. They do not stock your room fridge. The variety of food selection at the buffet and restaurants is limited compared to other resorts, however, the quality is better than some five star resorts in the Caribbean. Plenty of fresh salads, vegetables and fresh fish. Breakfast is the most dissapointing. They should add a toaster and a better selection of breads and bagels. They bring you a small basket of toast when you sit at the table. By the time you get your omlet or eggs the toasts are cold and hard and therefore inedible. The drinks are of good quality and plenty. Inez makes the best Margaritas! Staff is corteous and professional except for the Bar and the Grill stations on Mamora Bay beach. They need to have more training on customer relations. The entertainment is lacking overall. Every night they provide a live band from 7 to 10 pm. Not all the bands are worthwhile. We enjoyed two bands Axes and Karisma and they attracted the most crowd. After 10:00 pm some nights they may have a DJ or karaoke at the Bar. Otherwise not much happening after 10:00. There are two beaches. Coconut beach on the Atlantic side was windy and full of weeds and jelly fish. Mamora Bay beach on the other hand was calm and clean. The resort provides good water sport equipment during the day for free. It never got too busy and they had plenty of them available. The Dive Shop staff also kept a watchful eye for anyone who got stranded in the water and rescued them quickly with motor boat. There are several excursion tours for snorkeling, zip lining, exploring the inland..etc. A hotel shuttle for $14 rountrip can take you to St. John town in 35 min. The scenary is nice but St. John not worth staying long. The town caters to cruise lines tourists and most souvenir stores sell the same products. You can buy rum at the duty free stores of the airport for almost the same price. The weather was beautiful and dry at the begining of August in Antigua and the night sky breathtaking! On the whole we had a peaceful relaxing holiday.

I went to St James for 11 nights with my husband and 16 year old son. Check in was quick and efficient and the glass of sparkling wine was gratefully received! We had a premium room overlooking the gardens and ocean on the windy side of the resort. It was plenty big enough for the 3 of us and the bathroom was huge with 2 sinks. We had a problem with the air conditioning but within 1 hour of telling guest services it was mended. We had to ask for extra towels and clean glasses on a couple of occasions and again these were quickly dealt with. The best restaurant which is part of the AI was Docksiders with a very pleasant atmosphere. We ate at the Italian restaurant ($35 each inc. drinks) which was very nice but far too dark. Cocos had the same menu for lunch and dinner served from 11am - 11pm which got very monotonous. The staff on the whole were friendly and helpful. This was a very relaxing holiday and we would return to St James Club.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems ask for a premium room as these are located on the ground and 1st floor and within easy walking distance to main restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served, the lobby (guest services) and the main pool with bar.

The overall performance is comparable to 3-4 star Cuban resort, but you pay much more to visit this place. Food average, not much choice of fruit. Seafood just on occasion and poorly prepared. The staff looks very unfriendly. Weird collar shirt dress codes in the buffet ( please let them know that the middle of the last century is over ). My kid got food poisoning from spoiled watermelon, had to visit the hospital, no MD on site. Wait lines sometimes 30+ min to be sited in the buffet or the restaurant ( and I've been told this is low season for them).
Overall no Caribbean charm that we're used to.
Please note this is first review of mine, and we travel a lot.
Not going back.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your comments about your recent stay here with us at St. James's Club. We value the gift of feedback as a way to continuously improve the guest experience at the resort.

We strongly disagree with this review. In fact. The St. James's Club is one of the Caribbean's most popular resorts noted for our immaculate and beautifully landscaped property, incredibly hospitable staff, eclectic dining options and a plethora of fun activities.

We are not sure what the issue is with this particular individual but we would like you to know that this is not the holiday experienced by our guests.

During the period in which this guest stayed with us there was absolutely no incidence of food poisoning via watermelon or any other food item. The hotel did everything in our power to assist this family with respect to their ill child including arranging transportation to a medical facility as well as assisting with laundering soiled clothing and providing Gatorade at no expense to the guest.

The St. James's Club offers guests a wide variety of culinary experiences sure to please any palate. St. James's Club boasts four distinct restaurants, each serving up a delicious mix of Caribbean dishes and international favorites. From beachfront casual, to Classic Italian sophistication - our restaurants offer menu choices that are crafted to appeal to all palates. In addition there are four bars/lounges dotting the resort with all types of beverages available to whet the whistle.

St. James's Club is a vibrant, colorful, beachfront resort. We host hundreds of very happy guests each week, and we consistently earn excellent reviews amongst our guests as evidenced in our guest surveys and on online forums This is because we work very diligently to deliver a relaxing, stress free vacation in a beautiful setting, with some of the friendliest staff in the Caribbean.

Warm ocean breezes, the sound of the surf and the birds when you awaken in the morning.
Beautiful view of the beach and the mountains. Antigua. A paradise for all of us to enjoy.
Your stress will just melt away. Truly. The St. James Club was amazing. Our room had every amenity you could desire. My favorite part was our balcony facing the beach. The restaurants were great. Breakfast was delicious. Fresh omelets, croissants, fruits. amazing. Dinner were varied and delicious. We enjoyed Caribbean, and other cuisines. Piccolo Mondo Restaurant. The best lobster I have ever tasted, prepared superbly. The beach was beautiful, and the water sports awesome. First time I tried Stand Up Paddle Boarding. The Beach Attendant was more than happy to give me a lesson. The Tranquility Spa was so relaxing. The massage tables and treatment rooms just made you feel great. The staff was very Zen and very competent. The staff was warm and friendly. "Always a Pleasure" as they repeatedly told us when we asked for something. We visited St. Johns and bought pretty colorful island print sun dresses. We took a catamaran trip to Green Island. Full day. Worth every minute. One of the highlights, "Shirley Heights", which takes place every Sunday in Antigua. We heard great bands and had an amazing time. I would recommend St. James Club for couples, families, and trips with friends. Truly an amazing experience. I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the beach. Second floor was great. Very quite and peaceful.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay with us at The St. James's Club. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay.

In the interest of energy efficiency, our A/C units are designed to function with motion sensors and the doors closed. We inform our guests of this upon check in so that they understand how the units operate. This was communicated very clearly and was further reiterated with the assistance of the duty manager. We have never had a guest complain about this aspect of the room accommodations.

The St. James Club Antigua is one of the Caribbean's most beloved resorts and enjoys a very high repeat factor due to the idyllic location, fine dining, fun activities, beautiful accommodations with a gracious and hospitable staff.

Will start with the negatives: air conditioning unit situated right above the bed, not ideal. Bed very uncomfortable, you can feel the springs and you roll into the centre, even the children woke up with sore backs! Towels!!! Had to phone housekeeping on a daily basis as they never left enough towels for our party. Asked reception to sort it out, they never did, generally reception staff were not as friendly as elsewhere. Rainbow garden grill, the service in the evening on a few occasions was awful. Long wait to be seated, an hour and a half wait for food to arrive. We complained one evening, guest services responded quickly and appropriately.

Otherwise our stay was wonderful, on arrival we were greeted at reception with a cold flannel and a drink, check in was quick. Generally the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We have been to many all inclusive resorts in Europe, the food quality and choice at St James Club is definitely superior. Apart from a couple of poor experiences at Rainbow Garden the service in the restaurants is excellent.

Location is beautiful, the Mamora Bay side is sheltered from the winds, the water sports are good fun, paddle boards, hobbie cat sailing, windsurfing and kayaking all available. We paid to go out fishing, really good trip, staff friendly and great fun. Natasha at the beach bar was lovely, the beach drinks service came round frequently again staffed by a really friendly guy. The Atlantic side was very windly but this was very pleasant, nice and cooling. The beach was combed every morning to remove the seaweed.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful, they are well maintained and nice to walk around.
During the evening a band is playing beside the restaurant that is open, children are not allowed in the bar after 9pm, it would be a good idea to have somewhere for families to sit so they could have a drink and relax together. After dinner the only place for families to sit together is the lobby which is uncomfortably hot. Some parents sat in the bar and let their kids run around the grounds often making a lot of noise which was a real pain. The security team were great at curbing the excessive noise caused by the kids. Rodney that is involved with sports is great, he played pool with us, really chatty friendly helpful guy.

We will return to Antigua and would choose to stay at St James Club again.

PS If you are booking trips the Segway Safari is great fun, we all got the hang of it quite quickly
