“quite poor but very cheap”
Reviewed January 4, 2014 via mobile

went there after a deceiving stay at thy ath. prak dara was recommended by our jungle trekking travel agency, and can be ok considering it is very cheap.
don't expect too much: towels and bed clothes were really yellowed but smelled ok, probably just need to be replaced with something new.
wifi intermittent, hot water, air conditioning, old stains in the bathroom.
if you stay for just a couple of nights it can be ok, you just don't have to be too choosy.
i rate this as average just because of the cheap price.

We stayed here three nights, paid 12$ for an a/c twin room. The room was very clean, and the staff are very helpful (if they understand what you want: not much English is spoken here!). There is no restaurant, so you have to go to some of the other hotels nearby to get breakfast. A bit far from the "city center", about 20 minutes by fast walking. I didn't sleep too well, 'cause the rooms are as pretty much everywhere: you hear everything from the lobby and the corridors. And they say they have wifi, but didn't work the whole time we were there.

All in all Ban Lung is very skippable, if you are not into overnight trekking. The biggest (if only) disappointment in Cambodia.

We got picked up by a tour guide at the bus station and taken to Prak Dara as it was a cheap option. $6 a night for a big two bed room with TV, fan and private bathroom. The guesthouse was situated right on the lake with nice views from the balcony.

We tried out the restaurant next door on the first night but it was not amazing food and overpriced so we went to the little local restaurant opposite the guesthouse from then on and it was great. Really good food and so cheap.

We arranged a tour through the guide who picked us up who spoke really good english but she wasn't based at the hotel and no one else really spoke any english so it was sometimes an issue to get any help at reception.

It is a 20 minute walk to the market which isn't too bad and the lake outside is worth a walk around.

All in all it was great value for money and a really clean and comfortable place to stay.

2 beds, cold water and fan 6$, hot water and aircon 10$. Theres a coffeshop opposite serving basic food for good price. Staff are friendly and helpful, although a little young, and like most Cambodians a little noisy during morning when they clean rooms. Electricity sometimes shut down during day time.

$6 for a twin fan room with private bathroom, right by the lake, with tv and fast internet – what more could one ask for? We might have stayed longer, but the lake, after all, wasn't that special, and the town centre was a full twenty minute walk away. Oh, and the restaurant next door, with its romantic pavilions overlooking the lake, was a big disappointment.

But really, the hotel on its own is not bad at all. No hot water in our room, so the shower on a January morning was a bit chilly. Many guesthouses in Banlung have cold water only. In fact, Prak Dara has rooms with hot water (slightly more expensive), but there were none available when we checked in. No biggie.

Another thing many guesthouses in Banlung do not have is wifi – this one does, and it's fast. Rooms are clean enough, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you want to stay at the lakeside without paying a fortune, this hotel offers excellent value. We decided soon after our arrival to move to Tree Top Eco Lodge, which is closer to the town centre and in a different class altogether.
