Our stay in Balur Est. was nothing less than a perfect home stay. The extraordinary hospitality, guidance and service provided by our caretaker Mr.Amza, and the mouth watering food cooked by Ratnamma was simply a delicacy.
Apart from the other princely services provided by the staff, we also had the pleasure of enjoying the bonfire and the barbecue at dusk.
I would like to say that our Mr. Amza and team have made our trip most memorable and we would like to visit Balur Est. Once again!
Thank you and Hats Off to Mr.Amza and Team!!

Travelled to balur estate in chikmagalur in November. There were five of us - my and my wife, parents and my brother. We wanted to get away from the city and chill out amidst nature. Our stay at Balur Estate blew our mind away. We go to see the coffee estate , trekked to a nearby tea estate , visited the birth place of hemavathy river , had a good long plantation tour. The hosts were very gracious - I forget their names but the kudos to the cook who kept us well fed with local delicacies and our knowledgeable guide who was with us throught our trek and plantation walk. Our stay was sweeter , richer and more memorable due to our wonderful hosts!!!

Room Tip: I stayed at the cardamom suite and it was excellent

If you are someone who likes to just sit back and relax on a vacation this is the place to be. We were there for 3 days and we had a a great time. This was our third visit to the place. The peace, the quiet and the simplicity about the place just keeps calling us back. The food and service are great, u can ask for anything whenever you want. The staff are always smiling and very helpful. The new Cardamom suites are tastefully done. Being the coffee picking season this turned out to be educational for our kids and us as well, we got to see how the coffee beans are removed and dried. We trekked around the plantation or just sat outside soaking in the warm sun, read to our hearts content, thanks to the small library. There were beautiful birds that were to be seen in and around the property. It is a comfortable distance from Bangalore so the journey was not tiring as well. Overall a really good experience.

The directions given by the folks were quite accurate, but still I'd have lost one turn had it not been Google maps.

This is a large coffee plantation with the plantation bungalow being the primary stay area...annexes are being developed. All the lodging units are unique and each has its charm of its own. The furniture are quaint and you can see the carpenters making them using up the timber from the estate.
The plantation has lots of trails and the estate has mountain bikes. There are quite a few books and board games, if that is what you want.
The gems of the place are its staff members. They work very hard to keep you entertained. They took us to the local trails, tea plantation and to the not so nearby Bhadra Tiger Reserve. They even brought the estate elephant to keep the kids entertained. If you are the lazy type, then they are ready to feed you to the brim. Incidentally the kitchen is absolutely at your beck and call.
The best part is that the estate can take in five families and you are never short of attention.

Room Tip: Try the room with sit out at the end of Cardamom House

A place that reminds you that you need to do nothing from time to time. And it induces you to do just that with no connectivity or TV, you are truly away from the hustle and bustle of your daily routines. A 150 year old bungalow converted into a home stay, the house nestles you and makes you relax without even knowing it.
The rooms are spacious, the attached children's bed room with two independent beds are a real blessing. The care taker / cook trio of Amza, Rakesh and Ratnamma are the real treasures here. They cater to your needs without even mentioning it and the home cooked food is just yummy. You could just sit under a tree reading, walk / bike around the property down to the serene lake below, the small waterfall somewhere in between, or just up and down as you please.
The trip to the nearby tea estate is a must. Do a trek or ask for a drive up to the view point there, just not to be missed, the view is breath taking to say the least.
Altogether, a really amazing experience and a must do one.
