Lodging during the week of the CeBIT IT Fair is always limited. The traditional lodging in Hannover is often offered by residents with apartment rooms or spare bedrooms. While this is usually a good experience, the couple that had hosted my colleagues and I in past years were now in failing health and no longer offered their upstairs bedrooms for rent. Gerlach's Gastehaus in nearby Gehrden represented a terrific find. The setting is quintessential German village with much agriculture and a stable nearby. Every morning begins with an adequate traditional German breakfast (sliced meat, boiled egg, good coffee) and a short 10 minute walk to the Lemmie train station. The rooms have private bathrooms and mine on the 3rd floor (no elevator, definitely NOT handicapped friendly) had a great view of the town with one interesting window jutting out of the steeply sloping tile roof. The staff is very helpful and while little English is spoken, they still offered terrific evening dinner recommendations that required a short cab ride. For a reasonable price ( 80 EURO during CeBIT would probably be just 45 or 50E other times of the year) I can recommend this tidy and quaint hotel.
