“Excellent B&B and restaurant”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We came here first 2 years ago with our 2 grandchildren. This time it was just me and my wife for a last bit of surf of the year. This hotel has very friendly and helpful owners/staff. The food has been excellent as the last time, always freshly cooked with a lot of choice.

Had to nip down with the wife and pick my son up who was staying with friends and his lift home had unavoidably disappeared. Last minute booking but owners very accommodating with great en suite room and good breakfast. Reasonable rates, would stay again, many thanks!

This is a lovely little B&B in a great little location in Polzeath, the room we had was well proportioned with plenty of space and a good and modern ensuite. The proprietors are friendly and give proper, traditional breakfasts and are based on our experiences are very generous on portions, choices and variety of breakfast. They are very easygoing and are very different from a traditional stereotypical B&B owners.

Their eggs were outstandingly fresh, and when asking for a few to make a Tiramisu with friends on a local campsite we were told we could have them without charge. This coupled with their allowing us to leave our car in their parking till the afternoon on our checkout day made the whole stay very enjoyable.

Thank you for your great comments. Yep, we don't consider ourselves as a typical B&B, more as a chilled our, homely, slippers type place, but with attention to detail. I believe the Tiramisu was a great success.

My wife and I stayed at the White Heron for 3 nights in July. It is a lovely little B&B about 5-10 minutes walk from Polzeath beach in one direction and 10-15 minutes from Daymer Bay in another. We found it to be a great spot for exploring Polzeath, Rock and Padstowe without needing to use the car (walk to Rock and then get the ferry to Padstowe), fantastic for exploring the wonderful pubs and restaurants in the area!

The owners were lovely and very accommodating throughout our stay, top notch customer service. The room was clean and they provided the usual toiletries and amenities such as a kettle and a hair dryer (which was lucky as my wife forgot hers!). There is also Free WiFi but we were staying in Room 5 which struggles a bit with the signal.

The restaurant serves decent homely food of an evening and a decent full English in the morning with the option of cereal or continental bits if you request the day before. The main draw for us to eat there of an evening was the selection of different steaks including Zebra, kangaroo and springbok!

Overall we would stay here again without question, great value for money and lovely people too. Thank you to The White Heron.

We have just closed for the season and are now catching up with things, sorry for the delay. Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes, we like to think our steaks are a little different from the norm and have been a great success. We have taken on board your comments about wifi upstairs and we are fairly confident we can resolve this situation for next season.

Visited again the first week in June - weather superb. This made our stay in Polzeath all the more enjoyable. Hospitality . accommodation and of course the food were first class. Our thanks to Margaret, Paul and Jodie - they are a great team. The White Heron is the place for us to stay when we visit Cornwall. Every success to all three of you.

What a find!

We've just got back from 4 nights at the White Heron and I'm already trying to work out when we can go again!

Stayed in a double room with a little bed for our 4 year old boy. The room was a great size for the three of us and lots of storage so didn't need to live out of suitcases which was good. There was also a good TV/DVD player for those 6am cartoons (much needed with our 4 year old!!) Bathroom lovely and clean and again a great size for a little family.

Location great - about a 10min walk to the beach (less if you don't have a little one in tow!) and although it is a bit hilly there is a reasonably priced carpark on the beach. This could be useful if you are taking a buggy up and down the hill on top of the usual beach stuff. We walked most of the time and it was no problem.

Food is yummy! Really good home-cooked feel and very reasonably priced. If you have the beef cassa get some mango chutney with it - surprisingly great combo! Staff more than happy to tweak and adapt menu items (I had a super spicy korma - a rare treat!). Kids food great - nothing over-fancy but good little portions and big drive to eat their veggies which our boy responded to really well. (Only thing I wondered afterwards was whether plastic cups could be offered for kids but that's probably just me worrying about glasses!) We were lucky enough to be served puds and after dinner drinks in the cosy lounge after our little one was settled in bed which was really appreciated. Breakfast good too - a nice selection of proper cereals (not cheapo stuff) and then good cooked selection.

I think what really made the holiday for us though has to be the lovely staff. They were so so good with our little one. Every time we came back from a day out the first thing he wanted to do was tell Jodie all about his day. They made him feel really special at dinner and breakfast and were genuinely lovely and friendly with him. It can be a bit stressful taking kids out to eat (especially with a fussy one!!) but every time we ate in the hotel we all felt genuinely relaxed and had a good time.

There will be parents reading this who know how rare a genuine family friendly place is but this is the place to go! Best holiday in ages - thank you :)
