We had time to kill on Sunday before our visit to a Cave in Saumur and decided to go to Montreuil – Bellay for lunch. We wandered through the village looking at the antiques stalls and arrived at La Barbacane which overlooks the Chateau. Although we didn’t have a reservation they soon found us a table for two, and what a great restaurant it is. The waiter was very polite and put up with our pigeon French. We ordered a Calzone pizza each and we were not disappointed it was huge, very tasty with plenty of filling so much so that we couldn’t face a dessert. Lovely restaurant in a good position and we would recommend it without hesitation
