“Super! Fantastico”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

This place is truly amazing: a gem. Location is nice, 10 minutes from Alassio, so if you want a good pizza or a nice trattoria you can go there. Place is clean, beautiful, everything is just perfect. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, and so is all the staff. Franco is just wonderful. We have been there a second time, and we will return. It's always a special time, and we keep dreaming of La Meridiana til we return!
Just to point out two things that could be improved, for the sake of perfection: breakfast could have a bit more variety, like eggs already made, sausages, bacon, tomatoes, beans, etc., especially as the clientele is not always Italian; and mattresses could be a bit softer, fluffier, as they can be a bit hard for people with a sore back.
But this remains one of the best places we've ever been, and we've been to lots of 5 star places, all around the world.
Well done Edmondo, continua cosi'!

We have stayed here quite a number of times....going back can be in many cases a disappointing experience...but not at La Meridiana. We love the hospitality, the food is fresh daily, excellent wine list including the great wines but also the local ones to try also and it really is a wonderful place to just stop and relax. And the whole team could not try harder to make sure everything is perfect.

Room Tip: we have had the upstairs with balcony and also ground floor...in summer we would prefer the ground b...

The first time we went to this hotel was 2 years ago, and we promised to ourselves to come back as we enjoyed it so much. Here we are again. Same experience as before:
- The place is very quiet and relaxing. We feel totally detached from work and from this stressful world. The hotel has a nice, well maintained and large green park. Everything is made for you to feel like at home and at peace. Really the best relaxing experience ever.
- The rooms are nicely decorated, making you feel that you are in the country side, away from everything.
- The staff is very welcoming, warm, kind and always ready to help you. They all speak multiple languages and welcome you a smile (which is not always a given!!!).
- The pool is just beautiful with a nice cascade. The temperature is just the right one. It is calm, relaxing and not crowded at all for the best peaceful moments. We just feel like at home. Franco, the pool waiter, is just fantastic and always ready to make you feel like at home. So are the other staff members.
- The food is excellent and ingredients are fresh. The menu changes every day for more variety. The breakfast could however be a more copious.
- A special care is brought to each guest. You just feel unique and that your needs are taken into account.

Last but not the least, we would like to thank all the staff of the hotel for their high quality service commitment, as well as the owners who run a beautiful hotel and who take the time to come and meet each and every guest and to make sure that we are always satisfied. Having traveled all around the world, to some of the best places, I can guarantee that the highest levels of quality are met and even exceeded! The devil is the in the detail...

We will return next year again...

Thank you again!!!

Sébastien

La Meridiana is what you would expect from a Relais Chateau hotel but with particularly warm and friendly service. Our rooms with balconies were faultless; the breakfast was perfection; food for dinner was grandish but good and impeccably served. The pool is a proper size (can do lengths) and served by an immensely helpful lady.

Italian hospitality coupled with the French tradition of Relais &Château, that's what Alessandra and Edmondo offer when welcoming you in hotel La Meridiana.
House is very well kept, food simply great and the wine list second to none.
Moreover for golf lovers, the golf course is a true championship course.
We warmly recommend epicurians to make a stop in Garlenda

We just spent 2 nights with our boys in the suite (3 rooms one of which is small with a bunk bed).

Lets begin with the positives:

1) Pool was nice and the grounds, lobby, gardens were well kept. Flowers were beautiful.

2) Wine selection was quite good although overpriced.

3) the hotel is near alassio which is a nice beach town to visit for the day

4) Franco the maitre d was very nice and offered great service as did the pool attendant. (Although at a relais this would seem to be given.)

5) Dinner was good (and changed completely every day) although expensive.

Unfortunately these positives were more than outweighed by:

1) Pompous condenscing frankly somewhat silly owner. He reminded us of low end French hotel proprietor rather than a typical warm Italian hotelier. Besides a general condenseng attitude he and the front desk staff seemed unable to recommend anything in the area except the hotel or the hotel's products. At one point when my wife asked for directions somewhere the owner looked offended and said "how come you did not read some paraphernalia that explained all this?" And instead of giving it us at the front desk my wife had to go back to the room to get it (this was the tip of the iceberg)

2) they seem to have some relais fetish. We have stayed in many relais properties over the years and have never seen so much relais paraphenalia. There are same relais books everywhere open to the page with the hotel. We are staying there what is the point. All the towels, cushions, bed spreads are covered with relais adverts. It was frankly tacky and I would put this hotel in the bottom 20 percent of relais we have stayed at (maybe out of 20 all together)

3) Bizzare child policy where they wanted us to have dinner separately from our well mannered children and hire a baby sitter. They have laundry list of what your children can and can not do while staying that they present to upon arrival.

4) I think the hotel barely makes relais status but the overall decor is nice 80's country club and probably needs some updating

5) the 22 EUR a person breakfast charge was tacky. The breakfast consisted of bread and cheese mainly (which were in short supply). When we are paying full freight for the best room in the hotel it was kind of tacky to ding us $30 a person for breakfast not to mention the $20 a glass for Greco do tufo (which retails for about $18 a bottle). But the latter is probably a nitpick as this was pretty standard at other places (although I would consider those far higher end)

In the end this would be a nice place for an elderly retired couple who like to play golf who would put up with silly owner and enjoy Franco and the good food. For everyone else I would look elsewhere.

Dear Mr. Voldar15,

I’m sorry to receive your feedback after we advised you that we had several complains about your children and Family.

Morover I discover - by this report - that you were considering me “a silly owner” : yes, I spent a lot of time explaining you and your Family what to visit and where to go, with all sort of map and brochures, all forgotten in your room, if I didn’t bring back to your mind. My assistants also book a table for you in a restaurant in Alassio, asking to the head waiter to welcome your Family by the door with your proper name. Even the path to this restaurant along Italian Riviera Coast was followed step by step with a long telephone call.

Regarding La Meridiana, we are proud to have all the bed linen sheets and bath towels embroidered, it’s part of our lifestyle, so appreciated by those discerning Guests who know the difference.

Just to clarify with you and TripAdvisor readers:
1) In our extensive cave, “Greco di Tufo” wine is not listed.
2) Breakfast is a rich buffet plus express eggs service at €uro 22,00/adult and was complimentary for your kids.
3) Baby menu was €uro 17,00 per kid
4) Gourmet Menu is served at €uro 65,00 for a tree courses and homemade petit fours.
5) Taxes and service are included in described prices.

Finally, I’m a Golfer and I can say that Golf is a wonderful sport, played by young people who sometimes decide to spend their holidays at La Meridiana, well before retiring.

Price / quality ratio is (far) below par if compared to nearby regional premium hotels (mainly situated at coast line). We booked a regular superior room for >300EUR (excluding breakfast) per night and in return we got a creaky bed, ancient rotary club styled room, noisy doors and door locks. Included in the price is friendly service and a smile which we consider "mandatory" at such places. Icing on the cake was having to pay for breakfast (22EUR pp) when not using it based on the principle "you opted for a package deal". This does not relate to the true regional hospitality we experienced, instead one might relate this to some of France its overpriced Provence accomodations; with the upside there the area / landscape and views are superior. Overall a disappointing experience!

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are impacted by upstair neighboors (footsteps)
