“A must for lovers of history”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Often described as a hidden gem, the house is nearly 700 years old. This fact alone makes it fascinating for anyone with an interest in history.

“One of a kind”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Lovely tudor moated mansion house. Revisited after childhood memories. Wonderfully proportioned, both imposing and intimate, and hugely impressive £10m refurbishment leaving it fairytale perfect. Nothing like it for the misty, damp, green, kentish and national trusty. Feels like a film set. Better than average NT cafe and some lovely walks in the estate. Check opening times in winter.

“Delightful, picturesque and rather perfect ...”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

We visited Ightham Mote on a Saturday afternoon with friends of ours. The area where the house is situated is really pretty and in autumn the colours were beautiful. Walking from the car park to the house is delightful, suddenly there is this impressive old house with an attractive moat around it - impossible not to like! We were lucky to be on time for a garden walk with one of the volunteers ... and what a walk it was. Our volunteer was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate about the house and gardens that it made the whole visit more enjoyable. After our garden tour we visited the house which made another really good impression - helpful volunteers in all the main rooms, friendly information charts and just enough history to keep one interested without feeling overwhelmed. We were too late for a cup of tea so if you plan a day at Ightham Mote, give yourself enough time to have a cream tea (it should be the perfect end to the day). And of course, we loved the Grade 1 listed dog kennel of Dido - you have to go see it for yourself - a classic!
