I was travelling north from the Limousin to Dieppe in order to catch the ferry to Newhaven & I needed to find an overnight stop. There are two Logis in Forges-les-Eaux & the Hotel La Paix seemed the better choice given the information I had read about the hotels. I had booked in advance & on arrival I was greeted by the owner who new who I was before I told him. I think that I may have been the only person staying at the hotel that night.
My room on the first floor was clean, bright & airy. The room was furnished with a double bed, two bedside cabinets & a table & two chairs. An electric wall mounted heater was available to keep the chill off the room during the night. The shower room/toilet were clean & plenty towels were provided. There were two extra blankets in the wardrobe for customers use if required.
I dined in the spacious restaurant in the evening. The comprehensive menu include both a la carte & fixed price menus. Many of the items on the menu were prepared from regional produce & there was a good selection of wines available. Wine is sold by the bottle, glass or pichet.
I had the terrine de canard, entrecote steak/frites, followed by a lovely piece of homemade tarte-aux-pommes. The restaurant was very busy with both a large group dining together & a number of families dining at their individual tables.
I recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Haute Normandie or wanting a place to stay for a few nights whilst sightseeing in the local area. I found nearby Neufchatel-en-Bray to be a place worth a visit. It's a bustling little town with numerous shops & the all important street market (Saturday).
