“Comfortable Hotel with Very Good Restaurant”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

I was travelling north from the Limousin to Dieppe in order to catch the ferry to Newhaven & I needed to find an overnight stop. There are two Logis in Forges-les-Eaux & the Hotel La Paix seemed the better choice given the information I had read about the hotels. I had booked in advance & on arrival I was greeted by the owner who new who I was before I told him. I think that I may have been the only person staying at the hotel that night.

My room on the first floor was clean, bright & airy. The room was furnished with a double bed, two bedside cabinets & a table & two chairs. An electric wall mounted heater was available to keep the chill off the room during the night. The shower room/toilet were clean & plenty towels were provided. There were two extra blankets in the wardrobe for customers use if required.

I dined in the spacious restaurant in the evening. The comprehensive menu include both a la carte & fixed price menus. Many of the items on the menu were prepared from regional produce & there was a good selection of wines available. Wine is sold by the bottle, glass or pichet.

I had the terrine de canard, entrecote steak/frites, followed by a lovely piece of homemade tarte-aux-pommes. The restaurant was very busy with both a large group dining together & a number of families dining at their individual tables.

I recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Haute Normandie or wanting a place to stay for a few nights whilst sightseeing in the local area. I found nearby Neufchatel-en-Bray to be a place worth a visit. It's a bustling little town with numerous shops & the all important street market (Saturday).

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear away from the road are probabaly quieter. Fortunately, the bell on the nearby churc...

Charming place but over priced and very dated rooms, basic furniture, threadbare towels etc... The whole place had seen better days and needs a makeover.
Food was good, but pricey.
The owner/manager was very pleasant and friendly.

Room Tip: good secure parking

The La Paix is a typical small Logis situated in the spa town of Forges les Eaux, but it is at the opposite end of town from the very up-market Casino and Spa resort. There are a few shops and eateries around a small square about five minutes walk from the hotel, which has a very spacious and secure private car park at the rear. There are views from some of the rooms in the extension over the hotel garden to the church - beware of the bells if you're a light sleeper! The bed was supremely comfortable, and the bedroom & bathroom were spotlessly clean. A hairdryer was provided on request from Reception.

We stayed for one night on demi-pension, which was very good value. The 4-course dinner was excellent, and the service was efficient and friendly, although a little faster than we would expect. A comprehensive wine list offered a range from around €10 upwards. Breakfast was the usual self-service buffet, with your choice of hot drink brought to the table - the only surprise was the complete absence of croissants, which is a first in our experience. There was an ample selection of different breads with ham and cheeses, jam, yoghourt, cereals, hot and cold milk and fruit juices.

This is a good stopping-off point being roughly two hours from Calais, but equally would make a good base for exploring the area.
