Visited with friends for a pre Christmas night out. On reading the menu I felt worried that the food was not as I had thought it would be. However when our food arrived it was beautiful, tasty, hot, fresh and unique. We chose a 2 course meal which seemed quite expensive, however it was well worth the money. The service and atmosphere were also lovely.

Dropped by on our way home from a trip out, having had this place highly recommended by my mother who organises a monthly luncheon club for her group of friends. Very friendly and cheerful staff (is this the same place as the other less happy reviews??), lovely little bar(not much room at all if busy, I imagine, but we were early and managed to eat at the tables in the bar)authentic untouched interior with simple benches and tables and a welcoming fire. Had a peek at the dining room which looked cosy and tastefully decorated and not cramped. Loos spotless too.

There is a snack and smaller plate menu as well as the restaurant menu....We had filled baguettes (light ciabatta bread) which came with homemade (delicious!!) coleslaw and a really fab homemade (super delicious!!!) curried chutney and a properly dressed salad(so rare these days). We ordered a bowl of chips too (but actually the baguette plateful was more than enough) and my husband had one of the ales and I a more than passable Sauvignon. Just under £24 the lot and worth every penny. Will definately book the restaurant and give the full menu a try. A lovely experience.

Delightful village Inn, parking a bit restricted but not a problem. Lovely Christmas atmosphere, crackers on tables, restaurant adorned with subtle Christmas decorations. Comprehensive menu, catering for most tastes. The cuisine was delicious, presention was top notch with good size portions. I had turkey which was one of the best Christmas dinners that I have in this part of England. Staff attentive and helpful, in all a very pleasant dining experience.Slightly on the expensive side but worth it.

We had lunch here on a very wintry day. As you enter the inn, you're greeted by a log fire and an equally warm welcome from the staff. Two of us ate from the festive menu (which doesn't just have turkey) and one had fishcakes from the 'bits and bobs' menu. The food was extremely good - very tasty, good sized portions and well presented. If you try the festive menu, try the turkey - it's miles away from the thin slices of dry turkey you get on many 'festive fare' menus and was moist and full of flavour. The staff were as good as the food, friendly and efficient. The other good thing is the price - about £15 for two courses.
Although we had planned to eat lunch there it's only about 5 minutes off the A1 in a quiet country village, so it would make a good place for a break on a journey.

We visited on a Saturday evening, and were made to feel most welcome. It being the run up to Christmas, there was a special set menu available, which nonetheless offered excellent variety and good value for money. Our service was helpful, prompt, and the food was excellent, being also beautifully presented and piping hot. This is an old country inn, and the dining areas are comfortable, and tastefully decorated. We shall visit again soon, and if our next visit is as enjoyable as our first, the Jackson Stops Inn will become our venue of choice. First rate!
