“Well worth returning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

What a fab place to stay. All the rooms are well thought out everything you could ask for and more. We have always only stayed in top class hotels. This has shown us inns like this offered far more. And with extra added touches. well done !

Great January get-away break to this lovely pub with a room booked out back in the former skittle alley. We were the only guests - which suited us perfectly. Food was excellent and our three course meal with wine and desert wine was exceptionally reasonably priced (for us townies). The venison steak and supreme of guinea fowl were both fantastic. The room was snug and warm - even when the temperature dropped to below freezing that night. Breakfast was generous and delicious and just the filling we needed to go on one of the recommended walks. We did the Dorset Gap walk which took us about 3 hours with just ourselves and the scenery for company. Rewarded ourselves with a pint of local ale on our return. The owners and staff are incredible friendly and helpful - from chatting at the bar to proving OS maps for the walk, we couldn't ask for more. We'll be back and the tip we were given was to try booking with them direct for special offers.

Room Tip: We had room 2 which has a massive bath (for 2).

Nice place but food was poor. I had phesant and my wife had partridge... the meat was tough, chewy and dry. The veg was overcooked. For the price, it was poor value and we won't return... a pity, because we have been there before and liked it.

Set in the picturesque hamlet of Plush this inn is highly recommended. Quiet, comfortable accommodation, delicious food and friendly staff. Large rooms in the annex, well equipped. We found the bar area a bit chilly but it was ok once the fire got going. Good base to explore both countryside and coast. Bear in mind that there is a very steep hill into the village which would be hard to get up if icy.

The Brace of Pheasants is a lovely old Dorset pub in a tiny village in the heart of unspoiled Hardy country. It's perfect country for walking and also close to the Dorset Coast. The food is excellent-locally sourced, generous portions, beautifully cooked and presented. Owners and staff helpful and friendly. Good local beers and good wine list too. The room we had, in the converted skittle alley, was spacious, well-designed and warm - we were there in December. Lovely big bed, excellent shower room. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms in the converted skittle alley are the only ones we've tried, and they are great.

Looked very pleasant on the web site and had some good reviews.
It was well off the beaten track. We had adjoining rooms in the annex which was just at the back of the pub. Rooms were average to large - cushion fest everywhere. Bits of random furniture, but a good settee. Bathroom good - bath huge, but completely negated as minimal hot water - basics! Creeper over windows needed a good trim. Bar doubled up as dining room. 1 guest beer sour, the other flat. Food was pub grub - no more. Breakfast was in a smaller room that could have been a lot cleaner - "rustic" does not equate with "dirty".
No reason to return.

Room Tip: Annex was Ok, but no hot water!

We had been wanting to go to the Brace for a while. Both the accommodation and menu looked ideal but we never seemed to be in the area. The opportunity came in late August on the way back from Devon, so we booked for one night. The Brace of Pheasants is located in the typically English village of Plush, in Dorset. Upon arrival the location didn't disappoint but we did think that the pub did need a bit of TLC on the outside and the thatch was a bit threadbare in places.
The room we had booked was spacious and airy with a very comfortable king-size bed and large en-suite bathroom with a bath that you could almost fit a small car in.
Having seem the menu on the website, we had booked in for dinner. Great locally sourced ales and the Wine List was extensive but fairly expensive. The dinner menu on the other hand was pretentious for a small pub. The venison was tough and the Trio of Lamb cutlets minuscule and expensive at £21. And the breakfast, well it was as if we had travelled back in time to the 1970s, the breakfast room was a bit dingy and we were amazed that from order to service was extremely quick but the toast took ages and was cold. It just needed a bit of refinement.
