We can't believe it's been 2 years since our last stay at "The Brace", where does time go? Anyway, we returned for our 3rd stay in April & found that Phil & Carol are still doing all the right things but perhaps with a little bit more (much needed) help. Our hosts put us in our "usual" Skittle Alley Room 4 which was brilliant & a welcome return to the "to die for" bed.
We cannot lavish too much praise on Phil & Carol for the hard work they put in to make a stay at "The Brace" a wonderful experience. A warm & friendly atmosphere, great (reasonably priced) meals & 2 of our favourite red wines, all set in a beautiful Dorset countryside; we will try not to leave it so long next time.

We stayed for two nights, in room 5 above the pub. I would highly recommend it. The room had real wow factor - it was a good size and luxuriously furnished in a modern style, with an extremely comfortable four poster bed. As others have commented, the exterior of the pub could use some maintenance, but this didn't bother us. We ate dinner in the pub both nights and found it to be both delicious and value-for-money. I'm a vegetarian and sometimes struggle to find interesting food in country pubs (cue the dreaded vegetarian lasagne), but this was not the case at the Brace - although it would have been nice to have a little more choice as the first night we came to dinner at 8pm and the vegetarian special was already sold out, leaving me with only one option. We enjoyed the fact that the pub was unapologetically an adult space - no noisy children! The staff were consistently pleasant and friendly. The only thing I can fault was the hot water situation. I was delighted to discover that our room had an absolutely enormous double bath, but when we tried to use it we found the hot water ran out before the bath was half full. Worse was the 'rain' style shower head, which would only produce lukewarm water - after spending several minutes shivering I resorted to washing my hair in the bath. That aside, this is a lovely place and we would happily stay here again.

We stayed a couple of nights on a KGB voucher. It was unbelievable value for money. Please don't expect a large hotel with TV lounge, etc. That it is not. It is an intimate Inn with 8 rooms in a superb location in the countryside. The Inn itself is in a really quiet tiny hamlet, and the setting is so picturesque. Very quiet with walks around the locality, if thats what you fancy. The Inn has been tastefully refurbished and really does look the part. It is clean and welcoming. The food is based on locally sourced produce and was excellent in both taste and value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They are also very efficient. We honestly found it near impossible to fault this place and certainly intend to return. So if you want to really get away from it all.....consider this place

Stayed here early April, a Christmas Present from our children and what a wonderful present it was! The whole place was full of charm and character, the food delicious and the atmosphere relaxing and picturesque. The rooms were beautifully decorated and had all the home comforts you would need including home made biscuits and bottled water - these extras were much appreciated. The bed was really comfortable and the room temperature was easily adjustable. Have already recommended to many friends and would return ourselves.

Room Tip: Rooms above the pub have real character and charm but are more difficult to access. (narrow, steep s...

Our stay at the brace of pheasants was lovely; a very comfy and large bed (we had one of the skittle alley rooms), an amazing bath and shower, and lovely food. What more could you want!

My wife and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were shown to room 5 in the main building. If you are staying in the main building, you might want to take bags, rather than a suit case due to the top of the stairs being tight. However, this is all part of the experience and the character of the Grade II listed building.
Our room was spacious and had everything you needed. It was cold on the first night and had to turn up the heater to full until the room got warm and then reduced back down.
The bath is very large with a great size shower head over the top. The floor is tiled and can be rather cold in the mornings. The WiFi reception in our room was really good.
We ate in the bar both nights as the food and the service was really good. It would help if there were some smaller lighter meals available in the evening. There is plenty of breakfast for most people, but limited on the selection of cereal, unless you like Dorset Cereal, which we did. The cooked breakfast is to die for, with lovely tasty bacon and sausages.
There are plenty of walks available with great views across the valley.
