Ras Michamvi is not a glitzy five star resort but it has a quiet, natural charm. The resort is reasonably isolated, about 1 1/2 hours from Stone Town; reached by a dirt track it is surrounded by native forest, inhabited by cute monkeys and magnificent butterflies. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable, but there is no provision for the extra bathroom luxuries or tea making. Despite this, the resort is a delightful retreat away from the hustle and stress of everyday life. Ideal for someone who just wants to take time out, relax in pleasant surroundings, lounge on the terrace or in either of the two pools or just watch the changing pattern of the seascape even in the rainy season. Breakfast is simple but tasty and the lunch and dinner menu is the same, but the meals were well presented and delightful. Adam the chef was eager to please and happy to accommodate personal needs. The staff at the resort are fantastic, most welcoming and always greeting guests with beaming smiles. There are two pools and access to two beaches. There is no fancy spa or a multitude of activities to participate in, the value of the resort is its ambience, the restful environment, good food and retreat from city life. I would not suggest it as a location for families with young children. We will certainly go back. A point to note for travel to Zanzibar; take insect repellent.

Room tip: We had garden view but sea view would be pleasant.

Excellent location if you like things to be quite as we do.
Sea view room perfect, clean large bed with large mosquito net, towels (a tad old but clean) and dressing area, fridge, air con and fan. Perfect.
2 pools for when the sea is out, perfect views.
The staff are amazing, especially Alisha who should be a manager, he was so so attentive funny and helpful, even translating the menu to Italian for other new tourists on his break. Really, really an asset to this small resort.
We stayed for 15 nights. The menu would become repetitive if you stayed 5 nights+.
But the chef would cook you anything you liked within his produce and spice means.
They really do aim to help and please.

We will be staying here again.

Thank you so much please pass this message to your staff.

Our stay at Ras Michamvi was an unforgettable experience in an idyllic location, surrounded by the most hospitable staff and management who took care of our every need and considered us their 'Zanzibar family!'

The view and surrounds are literally breathtaking on first sight: the azure ocean and crystal white beaches...

Room tip: Choose an ocean view room near the dining area

This is the archetypical beach experience with something special. The location of the hotel and therefore the views are exceptional. Relatively isolated, the tranquility is guaranteed.
Walking or running on the beaches is quite extraordinary.
For the rest, just check the pictures and enjoy.

This place was impossible to find at night due to poor signage, but most people don't drive themselves so it won't matter. But you will need to bring your own shampoo as toiletries beyond soap are not included nor is the complimentary potable water you typically receive in African countries.
It is a beautiful location, removed from the large resorts and rowdy crowds. The beaches are stunning and clean, but due to the reef you will not be able to do any serious snorkeling and swimming is complicated due to the extreme tides.
Food was good but I think anything longer than a three day stay and the menu could become monotonous.
Staff was very friendly and a special effort was made to decorate our bed every day with flowers.
There are no screens on the windows, but the bed has an excellent mosquito net.

Room tip: ocean view for sure. You will get much better breezes
