We recently stayed here to end our trip around Tanzania. Our stay was booked through Zara Tours, of Moshi, and we enjoyed it very much. Our rate through the tour included breakfast and dinner. Ras Michamvi is about an hour out of Stone Town and the main areas but has beautiful and quiet beaches to make up for the drive. The pool overlooks a beach and we rarely saw other people while we enjoyed relaxing views- so peaceful!

We easily enjoyed touring the local attractions although we were an hour from the main part of Zanzibar. At Ras Michamvi the staff was so hospitable- there when you needed them and then in the background when you were relaxing. We thought the food was excellent and rooms were adequate. They were installing internet computers while we were there, but were happy to help us contact local tours and airlines in any way they could while the computer was down. Since we did not drive ourselves around Zanzibar the hotel arranged airport transfers, so I am not sure about parking if you wanted to do a car rental, I am sure it would be no problem- the staff is very accomodating.

What a place! Sure, there were no telephones in the rooms, no TV and the internet did'nt work - but so what. We came out here to relax, as we run our own business and didn't want a hectic nightlife. The people were so attentive. They couldn't do more for you. For three of the seven nights we were the only guests so everything revolved around us - meal times, menus etc. The head chef or waitress would visit each evening and ask us what we wanted - having just seen the choices being landed on the beach below. Be sure to ask the chef to cook local foods - much tastier than the 'international' cuisine often on offer - and they are very willing to oblige. Cleanliness great, modern rooms, and lovely views. If you want to relax - go there.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a sea view - wonderful views

We confirmed our reservation the day before arrival, only to be turned away when we arrived! Even more frustrating, we learned from the manager that they had a group arrive that morning requiring three rooms so they gave away the room reserved for us because they could make more money from the group. They even had my mobile phone number but didn't bother to call. The manager agreed that they should have at least done that.

The manager was wasn't very apologetic or helpful either. He suggested we try some of the hotels down the beach, at our expense for a taxi of course. We were left to fend for ourselves.

We were really looking forward to staying at this quiet and beautiful hotel (from the little we saw). The remote location was exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it because your reservation may not be honored and then you'll be left scrambling without many options. Luck for us it was low season, and we had a great taxi driver.

very friendly stuff, we just told what we want or need, and they provided it, always with a smile.
we forgot to make arrangements for diving in advance, so on our request they did it on spot: arranged for us a diving trip, coordinated it with dive guide from nearest dive club. we notified them that we'll return at about noon from this diving trip, so they waited for our return in the restaurant with breakfast and coffee :)
the food was good and different every day, not too many variants to choose from, but there was always something for every taste. when something special (like big lobster) was caught by village people, the cook immediately would find us as suggest it for lunch. and the juices - those were the best juices we ever had!
we were there not in the highest season, so only some of the rooms were occupied and we could really relax and enjoy the quiet.

If you're looking to relax, this is the hotel for you.
Beautiful setting at the tip of the peninsula. Untouched beaches and great pool.
Waking up and heading for breakfast each morning, I chased monkeys down the path.
The staff was very kind and attentive. The menu was first class. The rooms are small but accommodating.
There aren't many activities or exciting things to do, but if you're looking to unwind, get some sun, and not see a soul, this is the place for you.
