“Home away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

We spent 5 nights at Kichanga Lodge and it was by far the BEST holiday we have had! The staff are such special people, friendly, helpful and willing to do anything to make you feel at home. The food was amazing, lovely menu and cocktails :)
When we arrived, the view left us speechless, it's such a beautiful beach. I so enjoyed the atmosphere, it's pure relaxation. The rooms are lovely and spacious.
We had a wonderful lunch at the Rock Restaurant, which is a short walk from Kichanga, we snorkeled, visited Stone Town and spent as much time on the beach as we could.
I cannot wait for our next trip to Kichanga. Thanks to everyone for a fab time! Love from South Africa!

Room Tip: Room 15 had the BEST view of Kichanga's beach :)

The staff are the cherry on the cake. They were so welcoming and friendly. They helped us organise little excursions, taxi's etc and made our stay so much nicer. Rooms are simple, have charm and are spacious. The view is special as the place has its own beach. You can walk to the Rock restaurant over the beach from the hotel. The meals are excellent, especially if you select the freshly caught fish. Very accommodating, happy people with a social conscious as the place has ties with the local school. I would recommend it over the bigger less personal places you can also find on this side of the island.

I stayed for a few nights at Kichanga Lodge after a very arduous trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. The lodge was a relaxing haven folliwng the trek. I was awestruck in the bus ride to the lodge by the views of the perfect blue sea and white sandy beaches. Upon arrival, the beachfront location with the lovely rustic bungalows made me realise the short break there would be perfect!

The bungalows were neat, clean, spacious and towels and tiletries were provided. I was sharing my bungalow with a good friend and we had a laugh about the 'romantic' petals and shaped towels on our mosquito net-draped double bed!!! However these little extras just made the stay even more perfect.

The bed was comfy and the fan above would provide relief if the night was too hot.

The bar and restaurant was fab, serving a range of dishes including an amazing tuna pizza which you must try if you like fresh tuna. Breakfast and dinner contained lots of selection and the bar had a range of wines, beers, spirits and cocktails. Special mention must go to the barman George who catered so well with our drink requests! As it should to Nigel, the owner, who was always cheerful and polite and would recommend places to go - The Rock, plus a bad around the peninsular to watch the sun set!

The lodge also has a lovely dog - who was often dirty from rolling in the dry dusty mud! - who just loved to be stroked. Be aware though that you will need to wash your hands after stroking him!!!

The beach was gorgeous. Don;t place your lounger under a palm tree in case of falling coconuts - we had a very near miss! Wear shoes in the sea because of urchins!

Walk down the reach to the Rock restaurant - it is amazing!

If I had the cash for flights, I would be there tomorrow. An amazingly relaxing and delightful place.

Despite the volatile weather forecasts I decided to spend some days at the Kichanga lodge and I've experienced a very pleasant (and sunny!) stay.
Breathtaking nature, genuine atmosphere, cosy cottages, delicious and healthy food and - last but not least - a lovely staff.
Special thanks to the Kichanga managers for their kind support and all the illuminating suggestions to get the most out of it.
Don't miss the chance to walk along the beach and to enjoy a lunch at The Rock. You won't regret it.

I travel for a living and seem to occupy 4/5* hotels more than my own home. Kichanga Lodge took me full on by surprise. It grounded me, made me more relaxed than a weekend at a spa and left me with the feeling of "Akuna Matata" (no worries). Waking up and going to sleep to the sound of the sea and seeing stars like I've never seen before was priceless. I loved my typical African hut and the evening routine of having my net set out for the most peaceful sleep. Staff were very personable, caring and great individuals. In particular George, who would be able to remember little things about me like my favourite drink or the kind of things I liked to eat. Dinner at The Rock is a must. The lobster outshone all past experiences and the setting was something I'd never experienced before. Kichanga Lodge is the kind of place you want to tell everyone about yet at the same time keep it a secret just for yourself.

We couldn't fault Kichanga, each lodge is brilliantly furnished with everything you'd need, the beach was beautiful and the friendly, attentive staff gave us five star service all week. We would really recommend this hotel for anyone planning a trip to Zanzibar.

Room Tip: Choose a beachfront lodge, the sea breeze kept us very cool all night

A fantastic family friendly relaxing destination. The food, staff, clean and well kept accomodation set on the beautiful white sandy beaches of Zanzibar all make this a great getaway. It is remote so you don't get harrassed by people trying to sell you stuff. You will not be disappointed!
