Description: The Rock Restaurant, just opened in Michanvi Pingwe, is an extraordinary seafood restaurant, located in a unique position, on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Serving up to 14 tables, all facing a wonderful terrace on the Ocean, the restaurant is connected to the main land by boat, within high tide, and reachable by foot within low tide. It is also easy reachable by sea if coming by boat from an excursion. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or for a memorable evening with friends or family, it is open for lunch and dinner and is available to be reserved for small groups and ceremonies. The Rock kitchen offers a superlative fresh seafood menu, including vegetarian plates and a kid's menu the service is informal but accurate and elegant.

A splendid diner on a truly unique location! Great food, Great Service and beautiful setting! Take the boat ride across at high tide and if you stay long enough you can walk back to the shore! Really Cool!

“Worth more than five stars on location alone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed our second lunch in a week, it was so good we came back! The staff are fabulous, with great communication skills and attitude. We loved having a table right at the ocean door looking over the patio and reef. The seafood was perfect especially the crab salad. Would be nice to have salad with gnocchi. Wine quality is great, we paddled through warm clean water as the tide was in. What a joy! Experience of a lifetime. WOW.

“Fantastic Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

I have travelled a lot but never expected to find a restaurant on a rock in the middle of the ocean. Moreover I would have never expected to find such exquisite cuisine. The home made Linguini with seafood is divine and the fish was cooked to,perfection.
The ambience and views are absolutely amazing I've never encountered anything like this and if you add the friendliness of the staff it becomes an amazing experience.

“Fabulous location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Well, as a location for lunch, it doesn't get much better than this place!

The Rock is perched on top of a tiny island... at low tide you walk across to it, but if the tide comes in whilst you're eating, you'll either need to wade back or take their little boat. We were lucky enough to get their prime table right in the centre front of the restaurant so we had uninterrupted and breathtaking views out across the shimmering ultramarine sea.

As Zanzibar goes, it was on the expensive side... we paid about $16 for a seafood pasta main course and $4 or so for a beer. So, it wasn't outrageously priced, but it was more costly than most places on Zanzibar. But, how often do you get the chance to have a meal in a restaurant perched on a rock in the Indian Ocean?

The food itself was enjoyable, but certainly not the best we ate on Zanzibar, but the location made it a thoroughly wonderful dining experience, so we'd definitely recommend it.
