Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Brighton City Airport is the UK's oldest fully operational licensed aerodrome and remains at the forefront of general aviation in this country. Built in 1934, the Art-Deco Terminal Building is Grade II* listed and is still in everyday use by business, training and pleasure flyers alike including many visitors from Europe. Many of the fixtures are original including the Whispering Gallery on the first floor and the main window design above the main entrance. In addition to aviation, the airport has also appeared in a number of high profile films, such as the Da Vinci Code, Poirot and more recently as Vienna Airport in the Woman in Gold, starring Dame Helen Mirren. During the summer of 2015, the airport played host to the inaugural Wild Life music festival, with headline acts such as Mark Ronson and Rudimental. The event also won the Best New Festival award in 2015 and brought significant benefits to the local economy. The Terminal Building also houses the Hummingbird Restaurant which includes an outdoor seating area where the whole airfield can be viewed. The Terminal Building underwent an external renovation to take it back to its former glory, which was completed in 2015.

“Good place for a meeting and a chat with coffee and snacks”
Reviewed February 8, 2012

Lovely art deco terminal building houses the resturant and many other airport offices.
Resturant serves good large cups (not mugs) of tea and coffee at very reasonable prices (1.20 filter coffee) with real milk not UHT. Good range of cakes and savoury snacks to go with them. Plenty of space to sit and chat but on new rather spartan aluminuim tables and chairs (attempt at art deco ? Who knows).
The bar area offers upto three draught beers and your usual largers etc. and a small lounge area with comfy chairs and newspapers.
I had their burger and chips - only just okay as they use two thin bugers rather than one fat juicy one and rather too many of the chips were thin and overcooked, however I did get a generous selection of salad garnish with it and real mayonaise or brown or tomato sauce is all available and not from little sachets !.
A final plus point must be the wonderful location with its lovely views over the airfield towards Lancing college and sunsets over the airfield, weather permitting.
In summary plenty of space, good priced basic food and drink and an ideal place to meet and chat. Oh yes plenty of parking from 50p for two hours.

Reviewed February 1, 2012

Its nice for the airshow alone, other than that I see no reason to go there.
