“A warm welcome. Ideal base for touring SW France and the Pyrenees”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2011

After reading other Trip Advisor reviews my wife and I stayed at Harmonie in early May 2011. It was everything we were hoping for. This friendly home is a converted farmhouse and barn set in lovely gardens. The food and wine were superb and our hosts were so friendly and helpful. We arrived as strangers but left, rather reluctantly, feeling as if we were saying goodbye to old friends. We will remember our stay most of all for the warm welcome extended to us and the home from home touches. We intend to revisit the Pyrenees and the surrounding areas of Spain and France and we hope we can stay again at Harmonie, which is well placed as a base for touring these parts. We would have no hesitation in recommending Harmonie.

Looking for a hotel in the immediate area was abortive. We were lucky to find this wayside B&B at short notice through the local Tourist Office. It was easy to find, situated about 10 minutes from Trie-sur-Baise, on the road between Trie-sur-Baise and Lannemezan. We received a warm welcome form our English hosts who couldn't do enough for us. The room was comfortable and suppers were wholesome and there was chatter all night long. We stayed indoors and enjoyed the log fire, but for summer visitors there is a large garden to relax in. Having found Harmonie by chance, by the end of our short visit we felt as though we had been visiting old friends.

We have just returned from 4 fabulous days staying at Harmonie B&B in the Haute Pyrenees with our two teen boys (13 and 17).
We flew into Pau airport with Ryanair and from there it was an easy 50 min or so drive . You will need a car if staying here as this B&B is in a rural location but my husband that normally hates any kind of driving whilst on holiday said it was an absolute pleasure and the scenary is stunning . It is one of the few places we have been where you feel completely relaxed and wound down as soon as you leave the airport.

This is a delightful ,restored , traditional French farmhouse that is spotlessly clean . We stayed in the largest of 3 guest rooms that was extremely spacious with 2 double beds,( the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in ). A balcony with chairs and an ensuite shower room .The bathrooms are rather quirky and seventies in style but this just adds to the charm . The shower is good and there are toiletries always available.

We were a little apprehensive about staying in what is known in France as a “Chambre d’hote” which basically means you will be shaing the owners home but we need not have worried as the friendly and welcoming English owners Mandy and Jonathan made us feel instantly at home and the house is plenty big enough for you to escape if you want to. It was all very easy and relaxed and after some long days walking in the pyrenees and seeing the sights we shared a couple of lovely evenings chatting over dinner(that is available on request) and a bottle of wine or 2 . A log fire added to the chilled and relaxed atmosphere.
The house itself has a large garden with fabulous views of the Pyrenees . There is table tennis/football , swingball, some board games etc and a small pool available in the summer .Our boys were never bored and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and space.

Breakfast was ample including, coissants, cereal , fresh fruit, toast, breads, honey , jams ,yoghurts , hams and cheeses.

There is a good selection of restaurants within 10-20 minutes drive and a lovely small traditional French market town (Trie sur Baise) 10 minutes away for any supplies and your essential market . We popped down for some beers , a French stick and some cheese one morning and ended up spending 2/3 hours there. Very charming. Plenty more tradional market towns within an easy drive.

On recommendation from the owners, we headed into the Pyrenees mountains to the resort of payolle where we took a picnic and spent a lovely few hours on an easy going but very enjoyable walk surrounded by stunning mountainous scenary. We also did plenty of walking in the local area and enjoyed a very enjoyable day at Lourdes which is an easy 40 min drive.

We would love to return , maybe in the winter next time so our boys can do some sking . We understand there are several ski resorts within easy reach .
