Owner description: Many Americans and other foreigners help make up the 20,000 people living near this picturesque lake, the country's largest inland body of water.

I've been a frequent visitor t the Lake Chapalle area since 2005. The weather can't be beat, the people re freindly and the pace of life very relaxing. The lake itself is very interesting. Its water level seems to change every 6 months. When its full, it is one of the most beutiful water scenes I've been exposed to. In my mind, it rivals any ocean. When it is at its nadir, it is a bit disappointing to view but the park, plaza and people are always fun regardless of the water level. The area has grown quite a bit from my first visit in 2005. I must admit, I liked it better whenit was smaller and quieter, however, it is still my favorite place to visit today.

Make sure to visit Ajijic.

Beautiful landscape. There is a nice boulevard where you can walk along part of the huge Laguna Chapala.

Nice place to go on Saturday morning and spend the day walking around. There are small streets with bars, restaurants and crafts.

Nice, small gym at 135 Calle Guerrero (approximately 5 blocks north of the chapala malecon-walking away from the malecon. It is walkable from any hotel/b&b in Chapala. There are enough weights and machines to get a quality workout. There are 4-5 treadmills and a couple of ellipticals and 5-6 stationary bikes. It is small but adequate. No shower facilities. Hours are mon-fri 7am - 2p and 4p - 10p, Saturday 7:30a - 2:30p, closed on Sundays. Monthly fee is 300 pesos, daily fee is 35 pesos.

Plan to spend the day at the lake. Greeted by sewage running down the beautiful cobble street . OK a little sewage problem, smell bad but continue on . As we walked I notice the whole area dumps right into just like a open sewage pit .the largest lake in Mexico is a open pit . It's shame! We left as soon possible . P.S I travel to Mexico very often

The communities along Lake Chapala's shore have recently completed a network of paved walkways that put you right at the water's edge, and the great weather here makes it a year-around experience.
