“Lovely house, great views, tranquil setting to unwind”
Reviewed October 13, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-generation girls' weekend in this fantastic house! Everything has been thought of here: quality towels, bed linen, cookware and so on. Extremely comfortable beds ensure a great night's sleep. The lovely decorative touches ensure that you instantly feel at home and start to relax. Fantastic decks afford glorious views all the way to the city and provide a wonderful place to enjoy the tranquility of the treed surrounds. Healesville's cafes and shops are just a short drive away but why not just stay put and relax? Everything is here to ensure that you do.

“Lovely mountain cottage with everything you need”

Lovely clean house in the forest with great balcony to watch the animals from and over the trees to Melbourne. Kitchen has all the necessities and Trang provided us with breakfast and tea/coffee to last us the three days we were there. Appreciated the nice linen and towels and new portacot. House is a basic fibro cottage but is comfortably furnished and with the fire and the two reverse cycle a/c's you can warm it up quite well. Resident wombat remained elusive but enjoyed looking at the wallaby and the birds. A great base to explore the area from (by car - not sure if any suitable walking tracks close by - it was too wet for us).

“Lovely mountain retreat close to Healesville”

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Lakota House. We like to self cater and this house had everything we needed. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need for proper meal preparation, even good sharp knives. There's a decent stove, oven, grill, microwave etc. There's even a coffee maker and pods supplied. Lots of the basics are also there ie coffee, tea, sugar, oil, salt and pepper. The crockery is good quality.
I also liked that the kitchen and lounge are one room, but plenty big enough. There's a cosy fire that we didn't use, being November. There is reverse cycle aircon. There are fabulous views of the property, the mountain ash forest, and all the way to the lights of Melbourne at night. On our first night we saw a wombat and her young one grazing in the clearing, we could sit on the deck and watch them. There were also swamp wallabies, and so many different birds, including superb blue wrens, king parrots, honey eaters and kookaburras.

The main bedroom was huge, it also had lovely garden/forest views. We found the bed a bit firm for our taste. 2nd bedroom a good size. Bathroom functional and clean. The whole house was clean and tidy and comfortable. There are no laundry facilities but you can handwash in the bathroom basin which is quite deep.

This house is OK for those with mobility issues as it is lowset and there's a ramp to the deck. The only issue would be getting up and down the very big step into the dining room from the kitchen, which would be too much for a person with bad knee/hip problems. The owners should add another step into the dining room.

If you are a very nervous driver you would not like the narrow dirt road that you must take to get to the property, it has many blind bends. We found it no problem, but did drive slowly. It was in good condition when we visited. There are a lot of mists/clouds that come down on the mountain, very atmospheric but does make visibility poor on the road at times.

All in all a great place to unwind and a good base for exploring the Yarra Valley and surrounding district, at a reasonable price. We would stay here again.
