“Perfect place for large groups, right on the water !”
Reviewed June 21, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We were a large group of 28 people (8 families) and this place was perfect for us. There are a number of cottages to accommodate (2 large ones, and three smaller ones), all located in a circle around the garden. The docks are a stone's throw away. Boating, fishing, walking, cycling are great options. Its a small town so not much outside dining options (Kingston is about an hour away). Nearby there is Chaffey's Lock, an icecream/coffee shop, a resort with restaurant, a museum, a convenience store etc. Amenities included a pool table, industrial grade kitchen (we did all our own cooking and the fridge was massive, the stoves/ ovens/ grills were all great, 2 bbq areas etc.) Only downside was that the microwave and dishwasher were very old fashioned and need to be updated. Facilities were reasonably clean and well maintained. There were lots of bugs outside and in the cottages at night, but this is to be expected in a small town/rural setting. Overall, we had a blast.

Thank you chowdh01 for your review!
FYI, the dishwasher is a 5-year-old commercial-grade dishwasher in good working condition, not sure how much better that could be. The microwave is older, but works well. Maybe a stainless-steel microwave would look better though. We will consider your suggestion for a microwave replacement.
Thank you and come again!

Had a wonderful time at Dorothy's Lodge during the 2017 Victoria Day long weekend. We have had this get together at different cottages across Ontario/Quebec for many years; this has been by far the best spot for its breathtaking views, well maintained property and caring owners. Rooms were clean, the kitchen was just perfect for our large group, and the dock was excellent for relaxation / canoeing etc. Kids had a blast. Thanks to the Carbinos for making our stay a memorable one.

“Perfect for Work Retreat”
Reviewed November 3, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

This was our second time staying at Dorothy's Lodge for a work retreat and it was as ideal as we remembered!
With the multiple buildings there was plenty of rooms/ beds for our group of 14. Everyone had their own room with more rooms to spare. The industrial kitchen is huge and well equipped, and dining area was great for meetings and meals. The multiple living spaces are spacious and comfortable, and includes satellite TV, pool table, bar and sun porch.
Overall the lodge is kept in very good condition and very clean.
Dock and fire pits make for great outdoor recreation areas, and the quiet gravel roads nearby, and rail trail provide for nice walking or cycling options.
We visited in the fall so the area was very quiet.
The owner/manager is very friendly and lives nearby if anything is needed. The general store which is a 2 minute walk away includes most staples and an LCBO outlet!
Highly recommended!

“Magnificent Holiday at Dorothy's Lodge”
Reviewed July 14, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Had a fantastic time at Dorothy's Lodge. Family reunion that had folks coming from Colorado - Calgary - Massachusetts - Toronto - Montreal - Ottawa. Not a lot of opportunity to run home and get what was missing so really thrilled that nothing and I mean NOTHING was missing or lacking at Dorothy's Lodge. Robin and Catherine were amazing hosts and they have put a lot of thought and care into the furnishings and the amenities they provide at the Lodge. We are a family of foodies and the commercial kitchen blew all of us away. We were able to store, refrigerate, freeze, prepare, cook, serve, and clean up with no effort at all. That goes a long way in making the vacation less stressful. The mattresses and pillows were fresh, clean, and comfortable. The bedrooms all had great storage. Each room was unique and charming. The property is so well maintained with manicured lawns and lovely flower beds. But more importantly, they have addressed all the safety concerns a family or event planner has to be concerned with. All the stairwells were well lit, there were fire escapes, extinguishers, and smoke alarms in all the right places. The dock hut is really well equipped and so convenient for spending the day by the water with a fridge, BBQ, and kitchen set-up right there. So much consideration was put into making sure we were comfortable. There were enough kitchen chairs, enough couches, and enough outdoor tables and Adirondack chairs to seat everyone no matter what we were doing. There was also ample parking for more than 15 vehicles. I am a training coordinator by profession, and I would love a property like this where I live so we could book team-building and partnering sessions. If you are looking for a great escape for an event, a reunion, a large group, or a corporate BBQ, this is the place. Thank you Robin and Catherine.

Liked best: The commercial size appliances and kitchen supplies
Liked least: Recycling room was fantastic, pickup on Monday was great, but for a large group like we had, we were filling one and two garbage cans of trash a day. An outdoor bear/racoon proof storage box next to the house would be great.

“Perfect for our 2016 Family Reunion!”
Reviewed July 12, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

The Carbinos are a lovely couple and excellent hosts, welcoming us on arrival at their well maintained property and most helpful when we had questions.
Dorothy's Cottage was a great choice for our family group of thirty. The scenic lake location, huge waterfront dock and sandy beach gave us many enjoyable hours. The large property for the kids to run, the shady elms, the fireplace for large groups and cozy spots for catching up were, well... perfect. The main house and the annex comfortably accommodated couples, the cabins for families with young children. Cooking in the well-equipped commercial kitchen was a breeze; the dining room and front porch provided plenty of space for family-style meals. The pool table kept people entertained indoors.
Of course, no place can be THAT perfect, and a poll of the entire family rendered two complaints: the water drained a bit slowly in the 2nd floor bath, and... oops, only one complaint! This was our fourth Family Reunion, three in other locations, but we we will look no further - we plan to return in July 2019!

“The lodge and cottages were a perfect fit for our family gathering.”

Dorothy's Lodge is a beautiful, quiet, idyllic setting for any family gathering. My son and his now wife were married in Chaffeys and most guests had to travel long distances to get to the wedding. Our family booked the lodge and cottages to accommodate guests and wedding party. It couldn't have been better. Robin and Catherine were immediately available when needed and went above and beyond what anyone could expect to make our stay comfortable and memorable.

The lodge with its large kitchen and sitting rooms made it a warm and sociable place to be. We hosted the rehearsal dinner in the kitchen. The bonding between the two families that went on around that table will always be remembered. All of the guests loved their bedrooms, whether they were in the lodge or the annex or one of the cottages.

Many of the guests were city people who were awed by the charm and natural beauty of the lodge and its surroundings.

We booked Dorothy's Lodge for our guests of our wedding, with the reception held at the Chaffeys Community Hall. Catherine and Robin were excellent from the start, answering our questions promptly, and going above and beyond to be sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

Dorothy's was a great location for our weekend guests. The large kitchen was a nice gathering place for meals, and guests relaxed in the games room, on the dock, and went for walks and canoe rides. The rooms were clean. We would love to return and would recommend Dorothy's Lodge to anyone.
