We have just returned from 10 days at the Sani Beach Hotel with our two kids - aged 5 and 3. We couldn't get near a sun lounger. There are just not enough to go round when the hotel is full and 'Derek and Sue' are always out there at the crack of dawn pretending to read their books with half shut eyes at 7am anyway. Some days we might get lucky, others we'd create a kind of camp under some trees nearby. Drinks and food round the pool are hideously expensive too. We went half board and still spent a small fortune.
And yet, despite this, as a place to go with the kids, this is undoubtedly one of the best resorts we have ever been to. You pay for what you get and the Sani is run through with real quality. The rooms (we had a one bed suite with a stunning view over Bousoulas beach) are smart with generous double-sized balconies and satisfyingly ferocious air-con which we needed as it was pushing 40 degrees outside.
The food was generally excellent, even in the buffet. Eating out round the marina is a nice touch although you do end up paying quite a bit on top of the 'allowance' that you are given as part of the half board.
The kid's club was fantastic. Our kids have never really taken to them before but they loved Melissa's and went every day for a couple of hours in the afternoon which gave us a chance to properly relax.
Our son loved the football academy too. Great coaches, actually teaching them skills rather than just a kick-about.
No the beach isn't Caribbean white or as wide as you might hope for but 'middle class problems' aside, it is gently shelving - again, ideal for the kids and the sea was warm and clear.
We hired bikes, the kids had scooters and we went for rides all around the resort each day.
It was great.
Undoubtedly what makes this resort so special though is the service. It was unfailingly excellent everywhere we went and made our holiday.
If you have kids and can afford to go, the Sani really is a good option. Just make sure you get up early....
