“SUPERB HOTEL IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2010

Porto Sani Village is a superb hotel located in the wonderful Sani Resort, Halkidiki Greece. The resort itself is centred around a man made marina in beautiful natural surroundings. The resorts vast sandy beaches are fringed by verdant pine forests and stunning wetlands which are an important habitat for wildlife and migratory birds.
The hotel consists of low rise accommodation in perfectly manicured gardens and it oozes quality in every department.
The young Greek manager is very hands on and he has assembled a very professional and capable team to cater for your every need. From the very first moment you arrive at the reception you are made to feel special by Vicky and her team and this continues throughout your stay.
Porto Sani Village has an excellent restaurant ‘Artemis’ serving breakfast and dinner and you can also take advantage of the ‘dine around’ facility which operates in numerous restaurants throughout the resort.
The various pools are very well maintained and there is also a superb spa. An ‘adults only’ pool has recently been added and we found this to be very quiet and relaxing. We must add that even though the hotel was almost full, it never felt overcrowded.
The Sani Resort is privately owned and this is reflected in the very friendly and personal service.
During our stay, we used many of the restaurants and facilities around the resort and we found that the staff were always friendly and efficient, offering a high quality service.
In our opinion, the hotel is very worthy of its ‘5 star’ status and we would not hesitate to recommend it to couples and families alike.

Our 2nd trip here, we were welcomed back with real warmth. Great food & wine recommended by Mr Babis, Plamena in Guest Services & service across the hotel was first rate. Suites are stylish, spa is professional and relaxing, hotel setting is attractive, marina location is pretty & provides variety for eating. Good value for excellent Greek food & wine with a difference. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy their work in this beautiful setting and it shows. Thank you.

Very nice resort set within a larger resort area centred around a marina that as 6-7 restaruants around it. We travelled with family which included an 11 month old and it was excellent for young kids, staff very good with them and lots of facilities. We went half-board which gives a set menu or 20 Euro per person discount at selected restaurants, this was excellent value as the restaurants around the resort are pretty expensive (circa 25 - 35 Euro per main).

The facilities are spotless and there are a number of pools, including a really nice adult only pool. The rooms are large and clean. Staff are largely good, sometimes the service could be infuriatingly slow, especially at breakfast and the male waiters often appeared to not want to be there, otherwise it was an excellent resort.

PSV Hotel Manager Sakis and his friendly and professional team made us feel extremely welcome from the start. Hotel has a great new spa, pools for children and a separate one for adults, a gym and a 'dine-around' program which enables HB clients to eat at the hotels or restaurants around ther marina. First and foremost our 2.5 year old daughter loved the creche which has indoor and sheltered outdoor facilities to keep them extremely happy for a week in our case. Pricing was also very reasonable for a day 10am-1pm and 3pm-6pm. We had a great time and will go again in September if we can. NJK

Opted for staying half-board at the Sani Village, probably the best choice given that we have a 3 year old (Village is very child friendly). Staff very friendly and helpful, although it's not uncommon to find your message or request does not get through (be prepared to repeat everything twice!). Beach excellent for kids and plenty of space, creche is busy but OK (probably better for kids 4+). Resort lacks a decent play area. Noisey if your room overlooks outdoor theatre. Pools good (plenty of room for kids and adults but beds can be in short supply). Takes a while to work out which is the best restaurant to dine in and get the most out of half board deal. Most restaurants don't serve until 7pm. Best place we found for kids was Macaroni (Italian food, excellent food and staff) and Sea You Up (Japanese) for adults. Food in Sani Village restaurant a bit pretentious. Overall a good relaxing holiday for the family, but sometime felt a bit like 'The Prisoner' (i.e. over sanitized) - this complex could be anywhere in the world. I'd recommend hiring a car and going to Afitos for a few hours (or take the regular bus) or go down the west coast of the peninsula where there are some great Greek fish restaurants. Bike hire is also worth it, although you'll not see much in the area unless you take to a mountain bike and go on the coastal trails.

We had a great week even though the weather was poor. Our suite was excellent if a little noisy as we backed on to the road. Even though it's not a busy road, I was told that during the peak periods of July and August it gets busier, so if you can, ask for a room overlooking the pool. It's still by no means a main road but we're used to peace and quiet where we live at home!!! The swimming pools were excellent - you have a choice of the family pools or they have another beautiful pool just for adults. There are plenty for kids to do even though I did not send my son to kids club, he loved the football that took place in the mornings and afternoons and met quite a few friends there. The food was excellent both in the hotel (apart from the prices being quite high - 19e supplement on scallops!!!). We took the HB option which was great and meant you could eat at several of the restaurants in the marina. All restaurants (especially like La Tamata) were of the highest quality and high prices but ok if you stuck to the HB set menu which was ok. We hired bikes which is great fun as its pretty safe and it gets you round the large resort much quicker.
The staff were truly exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. If you're after a family holiday then this is definitely the place, LOTS of kids but plenty for them to do. The spa and gym are excellent too.

Just returned from 10 days at Porto Sani Village - overall a fabulous holiday & as relaxing as it can be travelling with a 2.5 yr old and 11 month old!

I can only echo what a previous reviewer has said about PSV desperately needing both an indoor (we had torrential rain for 4 or our 10 days & there is little to do with little ones) and outdoor play area. The images of swings / playground shown on the website & brochure, are actually of a (pretty ramshackle) playground within the boundary of the Melissa Kids Club, and only open for non-kids club users, before 10am & after 6pm.

We did try leaving our kids at the Melissa Club one day - but felt very uncomfortable with several aspects of it.... (At this point I would like to emphasise that all the staff there seemed excellent, and this is not in any way a critisiscm of any one of them)... There were few toys, those that were there looked tatty & grubby... the outdoor play area was completely exposed to the sun - with no shade, and with little breeze, temperatures were much higher than, say, on the beach - far too hot for toddlers to be playing in, both the slides were metal, and felt scorching to touch, having absorbed the sun rays etc. In fact, our two children wouldn't settle (many other children howling at drop off time, made for a very stressful environment) and we had to abort the session - and kept our children with us the the entire holiday (which was fab, but had the Club been better, we'd have enjoyed one or two hours 'off')... as I say, I have no complaint at all about the childcare staff (from what we saw) - however, the Club looked like it needed some money spending on it.

Otherwise -

Positives:
Hotel & Suite immaculate, suite well furnished, good quality - nice view of marina.
All hotel staff incredibly friendly (most have an amazing knack to memorise & use guests name at every interaction) and nothing was too much trouble, V helpful.
Pools fabulous, gardens immaculate, nice location with marina very pleasant.
Restaurants are all good & all very child friendly. The dine-around programme works well, and the marina provides a pretty backdrop & good variety of places to eat, and nice walks with buggy / tired little ones.

Be warned - if you stray off the Set Menu (within the dine around programme) and opt for A La Carte, the prices are ludicrous... we paid 140 Euros for dinner for 2, in Tomata Restaurant, with one glass of wine & one beer - the food was great... but you wouldn't pay that in a Michelin starred establishment in London - so they are definitely 'milking' the PSV 5 Star rating & have over-priced 'because they can'... some of the service in the marina restaurants was a little surly & sometimes very slow - but within the hotel it was truly exceptional, at every encounter.

Negatives:

The lack of play areas...for a resort that sells itself in its child-friendliness was very disappointing
The pricing in restaurants around the marina - sometimes let it down (and we're used to 5 star travel around the world, and eat frequently in Michelin starred restaurants in London)... 17 Euro for a Jack Daniels and Coke for example... 28 Euro for a small moussaka... 12 Euro for a starter...
Restaurant Booking system - there actually doesn't seem to be enough cover places for hotel guests... you have to book very early (before breakfast) to get a table for dinner that evening, for the busier time slots (i.e. when everyone with children - which is the entire hotel) want to eat... on a few days, we coudln't get a table at the first three restaurants we tried...

We would return... Porto Sani Village is really lovely, but we do have a sneaky suspicion, there just might be somewhere even better...?
