Pleased to find The Oxenham Arms reopened and received a warm welcome from Lyn. Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday lunchtime just after New Year. Delighted in soaking up the C12 history and learning about South Zeal stone and Dickens' stay whilst our lunch was prepared. Great food, fair prices. We will be back for another pub lunch again after another walk in the area.

We stayed here for a cheeky weekend away from the kids! And had a wonderful time. Simon and Lyn are perfect hosts and they've made the Ox into luxury accommodation with the world's most enormous and comfortable beds, nearly impossible to get yourself out of. The staff are all lovely, special mention must go to Michelle who never lets a fire die down on her watch, Patrick the cellarman whose witty company made our stay such fun, and Adam the chef who turns out amazingly good food every time. This place is seriously worth a visit. We'll be back for the Dartmoor Folk Festival in August, and in the meantime will smile every time we think of the Oxenham Arms.

having been here once before, many years ago, we hoped it would still be a great place for a gastro-pub meal with the family. We were not disappointed, the welcome was very friendly and the food really good quality. The current chef is a great baker, so lovely bread and a top class sticky toffee pudding. Excellent venison main courses. The best parts were the warm welcome from the landlady and the great staff member who had only popped in for a drink and ended up working a shift, all with a smile on his face.

We stayed here as a group (two sets of couples) and had the most amazing time! The Oxenham Arms is steeped in so much history that as soon as you walk in the door, you start to wonder about all those who stayed here on their travels throughout the 600 years of its existance! I would definitley recommend this Inn for couples who want a romantic get away or friends who want to see the wonders of Dartmoor and the surrunding areas.

The food through out our stay was delicious, the chef did wonders to serve our group (we all had different mains) all at the same time and everything was cooked to perfection.

The Staff were fantastic, very friendly, helpful and quick to provide you with any information that you needed to help make your stay. (Get Patrick to play a piece or two on the pubs piano! He is self taught but amazing and Simon is a dab hand at the guitar and has a great voice!)

Lyn and Simon the owners did everything they could to make us feel welcome without being too intrusive. Hats off to them as they really have done wonders with this place as all the facilities were modern but yet in keeping with the historical feel of the Inn.

Our room was amazing, we stayed in the Belstone which was very clean, had a lovely four poster bed, and a view of Dartmoor. The bed linen and mattress made for the best nights sleep!

This place is not the cheapest, but at the same time you really do get your monies worth. We will definitley be back for the atmosphere, the proximity to Dartmoor, the beautiful walks in South Zeal itself, the amazing food and all the amazing staff!

Don't forget to ask Simon for a historical talk about the Oxenham Arms!

I absolutely loved this place ! The food was delicious, serving staff nicely attentive and quick to produce both menu and the food itself. It arrived piping hot and very tasty so it was a surprise that the price was such great value. After dinner, Patrick, the cellar man and Simon, one of the owners, treated us to a mix of piano and 12 string guitar music which entertained us into the evening.

Our bedroom was beautifully decorated with many tasteful finishing touches and the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in ! A tasty cooked breakfast the next morning was served with a smile. What more could we ask for ??

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this fabulous "find".

Beautiful building with great history. Lyn and Simon were great hosts, fantastic history lesson from Simon. A lovely walk on the the moor then back to the bar for a glass of real ale and a warm by the log fire. We were entertained in the evening by Patrick and Simon on the piano and guitar after a wonderful evening meal. Then had a huge four poster bed to sleep in. What more could you ask for. Will be back soon. Thank you.

Well we just had a weekend at my aunts in Stickepath and she recommended this hotel as a decent place with lovely food in the Okehampton area as her friends in a alking group had been there over Christmas. It wonderful. We had a brilliant dinner in their restaurant on Saturday night then went to Cornwall and came back for a late Sunday lunch ! We have a little dog so 5 of us had a brilliant time and we recommend the sharing platters and my hubby went crazy for the venison steaks. One of us is a veggie and they had lots of veggie options as the lady owner is a veggie herself apparently. The old monastery building which makes up most of the rear of the Oxenham Arms is beautiful and dont forget to visit their ancient standing stone which gives off energy ! Lovely thanks
